Too fat for my wedding dress

I get married in 8 weeks and have my first wedding dress alterations appointment coming up. I tried on the dress last weekend and I'm embarrassed to say that it's too tight!

It'll do up (just), but I'm not sure how much I'll be able to breathe and my boobs are pretty much falling out!

AIBU to expect that a good seamstress could 'let out' the seams or make adjustments to make it fit? Or am I literally going to have to starve myself for the next month and hope for the best? I have no experience with dressmaking so am trying to figure out how bad this really is...

You could lose between 10lbs and a stone in 8 weeks if you join Slimming World. You'll get plenty of encouragement and you can eat well without missing out. Please do it. You will feel and look wonderful on your wedding day and if you drop off the plan afterwards you'll still look at your wedding photos and be glad you did it.

Pretty disheartening that the OP asked whether the dress could be adjusted, and the overwhelming response is an extreme diet..

Tallgreenbottle · 29/06/2019 22:09

Exante! Then lowcarb/gluten free food in the week leading up to it to avoid bloat and the liquid diet shits on your wedding day.

ChippingInLowCarbing · 29/06/2019 22:21

cheeseFace do stop being so dramatic!

Eating healthier isn’t ‘extreme’ and the dress will look better if it’s nit let out loads no matter how well it’s done.

Half a stone isn’t much to lose for it to fit nicely

I have a few health issues and my body is BERY adverse toosing weight and I have lost 7 lnbs in 7 weeks low carbing

I've just resolved to lose a stone before my summer holiday in mid August (I could do with it). I'm doing my own version of The Military Diet. Only 3 days in 😂but loving it so far. I chose it because I need a structured plan to follow so I know what to eat.

It's usually a three day crash diet but instead of that I'm choosing a Military Diet breakfast and lunch but just having my own sensible dinner (as well as a small pud which the diet recommends - I think so you don't give up in the evening and empty the fridge.)
I'm also adding 2 snacks of up to 100 calories (to eat at any point of the day I like)
Day three and I haven't had to live with hunger yet (but I am eating a lot less than usual so I'm sure I will lose weight).

If you'd like to have a look the plan is free online if you Google it. Perhaps I'm not normal but I like the food it's just simple straightforward stuff in smaller quantities.

You absolutely don't need to diet if you don't want to though - the suggestion of having a lace up back added to your dress if it is tight sounds great!

Good luck.

Remember that extreme calorie reduction will alter your metabolism and when you stop you will eventually put more weight on than you've lost.

This is why the diet industry exists. People get fatter when they diet. So have to go on a diet again. And get even fatter. Ad infinitum.

I agree. But our culture of dieting is so entrenched that people don't stop and think about how fucked up it is.

'The Truth about Fat' by Anthony Warner is truly eye opening.

Your husband-to-be sounds lovely.

I was 7 months pregnant when I got married... I bought the dress and didn't even try it on until the morning of the wedding... by the skin of my teeth.

Says a lot about my subconscious thoughts surrounding that particular marriage. Wink

TooMinty · 29/06/2019 23:10

When I bought my wedding dress the woman in the shop told me all brides either loose lots or put on lots, both due to stress. This is totally normal x
If it still does up then you can probably get back down in time, but why not get a back up dress so you aren't worried? If your Dh to be has offered a new dress then why not take him up on it. Sounds like a keeper Smile

Loopytiles · 29/06/2019 23:16

I did this and dress was adjusted, bur still hurt badly after the meal! (boned corsety bit) please do speak to the wedding dress shop, they will be well used to it and have options!

VampirateQueen · 29/06/2019 23:26

Not RTFT but they can let out a dress 1 size. So it would fit you. I went up 3 dress sizes in the run up to my wedding and found an amazing seamstress who added a panel in the back.

321Bed · 29/06/2019 23:57

Just reading through all your messages and thoughtful advice. Thank you! I'm so impressed with the weight loss that some of you have managed in such a short time.

My seamstress appointment is on Tuesday so I'm going to go along to that and see what they advise. At least then I'll know what's possible. I do love my dress, I just want to get married with a smile on my face, whichever way I have to go about making that happen!
