My stupid bloody work trousers have rubbed the top/inside of my thighs raw. I'm prone to a bit of chub rub anyway but it's the worst Ive I've ever had and I'm at work again in a couple of hours. I'm sitting in the softest Pj's I have and it's still so sore.

Any ideas? They're uniform trousers and wool/polyester mix and I think I've sweated under them which has caused the rubs. They're also a size or so too big which has made things worse. I've tried plasters but they won't stay in place.

Thanks!

You can get lycra/silk type shorts from M&S. I usually wear these if I'm not wearing tights otherwise it's unbearable.

PookieDo · 27/06/2019 12:28

I have used a very large plaster before and lots of Sudo at bedtime

TwattingDog · 27/06/2019 12:29

I wear cotton cycling shorts for chub rub. No shame in that.

Call in sick if you have to, but be honest about why and ask HR for non woollen trousers.

Are you allergic to wool? I couldn't wear them as I am - I had open sores on my legs from wearing similar trousers in the police years ago, and still have the scars now.

changingeverything2019 · 27/06/2019 12:30

DH uses an anti chafe cream for long distance running think it's called Chamois? Perhaps not for open wounds but works well to deal with rubbing issues.

SinkGirl · 27/06/2019 12:34

I get chafing from sanitary towels (skin rubbed off) and metanium nappy rash cream helps me. I agree you need a dressing. I’d definitely be complaining to HR that your uniform has injured you, you can’t be alone in this.

PeachesAndMayo · 27/06/2019 12:35

Long leg sloggi pants. Idea for thigh rub.

QuestionableMouse · 27/06/2019 12:46

@TwattingDog yep, and polyester too so these trousers are fab for me. I normally wear super thin leggings under them but my washing machine decided to play up yesterday and I couldn't get them out/dry in time for work.

I've just had a nice cool shower which has taken some of the sting out of it but I have a feeling as soon as I get hot it'll happen again.

I might just dig out my work skirt and wear that with leggings. Technically I'm not meant to because we're only allowed to wear tights with the skirts... 🤷‍♀️

I'm also going to stick some of the yellow nappy cream on to see if that'll help.

Thank you 😀

Right, if you are allergic to the twatting things, this is a massive health issue that should have come up before. You really need to raise this with them quite urgently. God forbid you end up with an infection in the wound.

You must NOT wear these trousers again. They will have to come up with a reasonable adjustment for you, but that may be wearing the skirt with tights. Have a look for the cooling ones - I've not used them, but I had they are good. Might be cooler at this time of year anyway!

But do ask for cotton trousers or permission to wear your own, as you should not be restricted to a skirt - men wouldn't be.

BusterGonad · 27/06/2019 12:53

You need this cream to heal up what is sore then when it's back to normal use a roll on deodorant. I get a bit sore when I wear skirts in humid countries and the deodorant works.

Won't help for today, but Snag Tights do some brilliant shorts. snagtights.com/products/stay-cool-chub-rub-shorts-builders-tea

Cool, comfortable and they stay up! They come in all sizes so great for anyone prone to problems in this area, regardless of size. My size 12 DD swears by them as much as (much larger) me.

QuestionableMouse · 27/06/2019 13:10

Thank you!

I've had this discussion with work a few times and it never go anywhere. Our business manager is a but of a bastard to be honest and he tends not to abide any weakness. I'll ring HR tomorrow and have a chat with them because I'm so bloody sore right now I could cry. (and I've taken painkillers.)

Thank you all for the suggestions, I've ordered some sloggi knickers and the creams suggested. Will take a look at those Snag shorts too.

I had this last year because of the heat. Bepantiseptic (used to be germolene) is brilliant. Heals the chafing in double quick time and has a local anaesthetic to soothe the skin. You should be able to get it in any supermarket.

TwattingDog · 27/06/2019 13:17

@OvertiredandConfused thanks for the suggestion, just bought some to try!

SkintAsASkintThing · 27/06/2019 13:20

Nappy rash cream and talc. Lie with legs open and direct a hair dryer set to cool on the burny area to dry it out.

When it heals over put a layer of deodorant on your inner thighs each morning. It prevents chaffing. And definitely wear leggings for now.

TwattingDog · 27/06/2019 13:21

In terms of work, you have a medical condition, allergy, which is chronic and is now disabling because of their uniform. This is not a discussion that needs to be had with a business manager really.

HR may refer to Occupational Health - not a bad thing, they'll want to be sure you're not making it up, but also that they're not exposing you to something that could get them sued.... My advice would be to take photos of the wound and keep them to one side if you're not going to see a doc or nurse (you may have no need to!). You could use these with an Occ Health doctor or nurse as evidence of the allergy.

It was easier for me I showed them my bleeding legs! Less personal area.

QuestionableMouse · 27/06/2019 13:35

Thanks! It's grim isn't it when your uniform is so horrible. I get anxious about going to work over it.

Not much help for this occasion but hopefully to stop it happen again, I belong to a Facebook group for (cough) larger ladies 😁 and a lot of them swear by Aldi liquid baby talk to combat chub rub

Blinkingblimey · 27/06/2019 13:44

Compede / blister plasters - they’re not like normal plasters and should stick as long as you’re not sweaty when you put it on.....Expensive but will save you the agony and protect the current site whilst it heals!!

CassandraCross · 27/06/2019 13:48

Your Business Manager is a tool - an allergy isn't a weakness ffs.

Agree you should take this up with HR as TwattingDog advises.

letsdolunch321 · 27/06/2019 13:59

Nappy cream with a lint gauze over the top of the wound secured with micropore tape may help

Goodenough06 · 27/06/2019 14:03

This is not the thread I was expecting judging by the title Grin

MoreSchnitzelPlease · 27/06/2019 14:04

Don't put deodorant on broken skin, it will hurt. Can you sacrifice a pair of leggings and cut them off at the knee? You could wear them under your work trousers.

Coffeeonthesofa · 27/06/2019 14:16

Sudocreme is my go to if I end up with this applied liberally, pants off under the loosest pyjama bottoms I have from the minute I get in till the minute I have to get dressed in the next morning. Doesn’t happen much now because of the actions below.
For the future
Underlying Smooth chamois anti chafing cream from Amazon, really works for me in preventing chub rub, it’s used by runners cyclists etc, can now wear dresses or skirts which I couldn’t do before, unless I was wearing tights. Your legs slide past each other or seams. Tights from Snug are great really pull up well and stay up so you don’t get tights fabric bunching round your crotch. Boy short style pants rather than briefs which cut across the top of your thighs give better coverage and reduce friction. As mentioned by pp’s lots of chub rub shorts out there. As a temporary measure can you lightly sew a thin piece of fabric inside the crotch of the offending trousers to give you a bit of a barrier til you can get other options in place.

QuestionableMouse · 27/06/2019 14:17

Heading in shortly. I found a couple of soft gel dressings that I had for a scald a but ago and I've use those, along with some of the paper type medical tape (was all I had)

I've also slathered everything in yellow nappy cream so hopefully it won't be too bad.

There's a pharmacy close to work so if I need to I can nip in for more supplies.
