Waiter there's a fly...

Well actually there were two flies in my sons milkshake. On a hot evening in a city near a river, I get that there are flies around and so truly didn't make a fuss. Lovely waiter looked horrified and replaced (half drunk before he were noticed) Confused with a new milkshake. However when we then got the bill the milkshake was on it. WIBU to be raging?! I then complained and it was taken off but still, not great is it? Should say it was in a Hard Rock Cafe so tbh I would have expected a free glass/key ring or something. I really don't think I should have had to complain, I didn't re the bloody flies in the first place. Kind of took the shine off the evening.

Why would you expect a free glass or something? Flies got into the milkshake. The resteraunts cannot control the flies! If there idea fly buzzing about your table then you need to wave it off! If it lands in your drink then that is no one's fault.

They should have replaced it and not charged for the replacement... But a free glass or something? Entitled much? I hope you didn't sit there infront of your kids and complain about not getting free merchandies; I hope you raise them with more dignity than that.

idoliketobebesidethesea · 27/06/2019 00:16

I most definitely expected not to be changed for the drink! I worked in restaurants all through my student years and anywhere I worked would most definitely have offered a little free "something " in this sort of case. Particularly as I didn't sit there being a cow and making a fuss, I was very subtle and nice about it actually. As I said, warm evening, nearby river...I get that. In my experience this sort of understanding attitude would have been more appreciated. Since you're worried about my kids my oh had brought them out of the restaurant to get ice cream at another shop whilst I paid the bill- and asked for the cost of the milkshake to be removed. Hope that puts your mind at rest! 🤣

'WIBU to be raging?'

Over a milk shake

....you really have to ask?

TheInvestigator · 27/06/2019 00:20

The last glass I bought in hard rock was something like £13. You seriously think a fly landing in a drink should get you between £10 and £20 of free stuff?

If they served you something out of the kitchen full of dead flies then totally.. Get a free glass. A fly lands in your milkshake? Grow up.

mouldyhousemouldylife · 27/06/2019 00:27

It's a milkshake which had flies in through no fault of their own and which you had replaced without question. Not complaint worthy at all. How sad.

needsomesleepy · 27/06/2019 00:33

Do you always look for freebies?

It would t even cross my mind to think about what I could get out of this situation. Milkshake was replaced. Job done

needsomesleepy · 27/06/2019 00:33

*wouldnt

recklessruby · 27/06/2019 00:39

"Waiter there's a fly in my milkshake "
Waiter "don't shout. Everyone will want one"
Grin

S1naidSucks · 27/06/2019 00:43

Are you for real? A fly or two lands in your child’s drink and you expect to profit from it. It probably landed in it while your child was drinking it, if you only noticed halfway through. Dear Gaia!

Bambamber · 27/06/2019 01:01

A free glass? For a fly in a shake? Good grief

furrybadger · 27/06/2019 01:22

You sound like a total knob Hmm

MagneticSingularity · 27/06/2019 01:26

In my experience it works in one of two ways in most restaurants - if a dish or drink is wrong/spoiled you will be offered a replacement, if you accept the replacement then you will be charged for the item. If you decline the replacement they’ll take the item off the bill. Never known anyone get both. Sometimes if you’ve had a very poor experience with lots of things going wrong they might comp you a drink or a dessert or not charge for items you didn’t/couldn’t consume but that wasn’t the case here.

SnowsInWater · 27/06/2019 01:40

So you got a replacement and you are raging because you weren't also given a freebie. Are you always so entitled?

Yeahnahmum · 27/06/2019 03:31

^^ this
Gosh op. You should be ashamed Shock

Reith · 27/06/2019 05:48

recklessruby yes, we know, that’s why the OP chose the title she did.

CustardCreamLover · 27/06/2019 06:05

If you worked in restaurants then should know that you were being a really pain in the backside!! I also worked in restaurants and would never expect 'a little freebie' when a) the milkshake had already been replaced (after you got half way through before noticing 🤔) and b) you then demanded it was taken off the bill!

As a PP said, entitled much?!

I hated serving people like you. I bet you didn't even tip either.

CollyWobbleNightmares · 27/06/2019 06:13

Is it just me who would fish the flies out and continue on? Surely they are just a small but inevitable consequence of sitting outside in the summer?

Mummyh2016 · 27/06/2019 06:17

I am the biggest complainer ever and I wouldn't have complained about this! They replaced the milkshake, what on earth is the issue.

MarthasGinYard · 27/06/2019 06:19

'Is it just me who would fish the flies out and continue on? Surely they are just a small but inevitable consequence of sitting outside in the summer?'

Quite

Probably landed in drink after being sat by ....river perhaps 🤔

MarthasGinYard · 27/06/2019 06:19

Don't think some folk get 'outdoor' much ....

Slicedpineapple · 27/06/2019 06:24

YABVU.

I would have felt embarrassed asking forms replacement after I let 2 flies land in my milkshake, let alone expect it for free and then some sprt of free merchandise! Very cheeky

Pywife2 · 27/06/2019 06:25

When the waiter replaced the drink, did they make it clear that this wasn't complimentary? If not, they shouldn't have added it to the bill. Lots of places would make this gesture and it's clear the customer might think that's what was happening, so I do think it's cheeky to then add it to the bill.

Also, when did the flies get in there? If it was after bringing it to the table, I would say tough. If it happened in the kitchen, they have a problem. If the eating area is infested with flies, they need to address it because people will stop visiting.

And they may be charging £13 for a milkshake but don't worry, it doesn't cost them anything like that to produce. At those prices they can afford the odd good will gesture to ensure repeat custom.

VivienneHolt · 27/06/2019 06:49

I wouldn’t have expected the milkshake to be on the bill either. I think you dealt with it fine and got a fair resolution though, so I don’t really know why it’s still bothering you.

TidyDancer · 27/06/2019 06:53

Sounds like they made a mistake by putting the replacement on the bill, but raging over this? Gosh.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 27/06/2019 06:55

I don't think they put the replacement on the bill. Just left the original on there.
