Well actually there were two flies in my sons milkshake. On a hot evening in a city near a river, I get that there are flies around and so truly didn't make a fuss. Lovely waiter looked horrified and replaced (half drunk before he were noticed) with a new milkshake. However when we then got the bill the milkshake was on it. WIBU to be raging?! I then complained and it was taken off but still, not great is it? Should say it was in a Hard Rock Cafe so tbh I would have expected a free glass/key ring or something. I really don't think I should have had to complain, I didn't re the bloody flies in the first place. Kind of took the shine off the evening.

Was there 2 milkshakes on the bill or 1?
If the flies landed in the milkshake while you were sitting outside it's not the restaurants fault is it?

I would expect a refund OR replacement especially since there's nothing the restaurant could have done to prevent this. You got a replacement milkshake.

You then made a fuss and got a refund too to IMO they had already gone above and beyond.

To then expect a free merchandise is frankly ridiculous. If they gave away a glass everytime someone had a (very minor) problem with their meal they would lose lots of money!

So in response to youre question: yes, YABU to be "raging".

I'd expect to be charged here for 1, but not the replacement. And I'd only expect the replacement if the fly was there when the milkshake arrived - but you only noticed it half way through so you don't actually know when the flies arrived.

Either way, it seems they haven't charged you when you asked them - so why on earth are you still raging about it?!!

Oh was it just the one milkshake that was on the bill? I assumed from the OP that it was two. If it was just one then this is even more ridiculous.

I could understand you being angry if they'd charged you for both drinks, but you had 1 and a half and they charged you for one. Was there anything wrong with the second drink? No. So why would you get it for free?

Did they charge you for two drinks?! Because that’s the only way I can see that I’d be annoyed about this. If they only charged you for the original, which was half drunk before discovering the flies and then gave you the second with no additional charge (presumably this was also drunk?!) then why on earth would you expect anything else? You’ve already had what you paid for plus an extra half. You’d have been entitled to a refund if they’d not replaced it, but why would you expect a refund when they did replace it?!

So you were raging because you expected a free milkshake AND a gift for something that wasn't their fault (unless the flies were in it already}. You're an entitled madam aren't you?

I read this as you were only charged for 1 milkshake . I think replacing it was enough you should not have expected a refund as well and to expect freebies too is really taking the piss. There are flys outside. Get over it.

Also if you were charged for two it was most likely a mistake given that they then took it off anyway. In my restaurant you can't get any food or drink without a ticket out through first, regardless of whether it's a remake, to account for stock. It is then taken back off before the final bill is presented.
