State teacher in Glastonbury bender?

Aibu to think that a head of department in a large state secondary school (of a core subject - English/maths/science) is a CF for taking two days off school to go to Glastonbury?

The school fines parents who take kids out of school for holiday.

Not the first year this has happened.

Money too short for laminating and photocopying but not for two days of cover.

I'm just impressed they managed to get tickets every year!

ladymariner My bag is already clinking with gin and cans of strongbow. Grin

Kidding. In reality, I've packed my Tesco double concentrate squash and just this second spent £20 of my own cash on sensitive skin factor 50 because I can guarantee that some thoughtless parents won't provide. Oh, and 6 pupils we are taking have huge emotional difficulties so we won't take our eyes off them. We are on a night time awake rota + baby monitor because one is epileptic and my colleague is baking a very large cake because there's a 13th birthday whilst we're there. We'll all sing and give token fun presents from our own cash and buy said kid a massive ice cream.

All very routine stuff for a teacher but doesn't make for sensationalist reading for OP and those of her ilk. Not blowing own trumpet because this is what out profession does and we usually just get on with it.

Arseholes like the OP occasionally grip me though. I hope Glasto teacher has a ball I bloody LOVE the Killers so I'm really jealous

Mind your own business. Nothing to do with you.

@FamilyOfAliens sorry - I was being sarcastic!

AryaStarkWolf · 26/06/2019 12:20

oh get over it

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 05/07/2019 15:56

So what happened to the teacher? Did they crowd surf, moon the tv cameras and try and get on stage with Kylie? Grin

I think the title of your post is quite vile. How do you know they were on a ‘bender’???!!

Teacher of 22 years and some of the stories about teachers being given hassle over time off for hospital appointments, funerals etc make me angry and sad. I've been at my current school 17 years and in that time I've been allowed to attend 2 immediate family weddings on a Friday, moved house on a Friday, been given a Friday afternoon off as time in lieu for working on my day off; attended funerals and had time off for IVF. I've clearly been very lucky to have reasonable SLT. Oh and no one will ever get to tell me that I can't attend a funeral. Not happening.

Crustaceans · 05/07/2019 16:30

How exactly can the whole school know about:

  1. Whether or not the teacher was paid
  2. What arrangements were made for cover
  3. What arrangements other staff have made with regards to their families?

I mean, seriously.

Stop gossiping and mind your own business.

Proseccoinamug · 05/07/2019 17:43

What, so a full-time teacher can NEVER go to Glastonbury, in their whole working life?! Seems a tad unfair!

Well, DP is a teacher and so are most of our circle of friends. They can never go to Glastonbury! Neither can they go to their own kids’ sports days or Christmas concerts, pick them up from their first day at school, attend their graduation, attend a weekday wedding, go away in term time. They can be pissy about funerals.

So no, full time teachers can’t go to Glastonbury.

ForInstance · 05/07/2019 18:55

Not sure why it’s relevant that it’s a state school?

Cloverisover · 05/07/2019 19:12

Hope the teacher had a fabulous time. Don't be so fucking mean spirited.

HelloyouKant · 05/07/2019 23:01

Give the teacher a break!!!! They deserve it
