How are people not more outraged? And no, tourists do not visit the UK specifically because of the royal family.

"This year, 320,000 people were recorded as homeless in Britain"

And Ghanagirl bingo is that you can slur whoever you like, call them racist, and then just completely ignore any proof to the contrary, or questions that don't suit the narrative and move on to the next poster. I'm glad to see MN have deleted at least one of her unfounded accusations today.

Ghanagirl · 30/06/2019 11:30

When idiots stop saying “the racist card” I will stop calling out racists and as per usual a black persons is told they have a chip on their shoulder.

Bluestitch · 30/06/2019 11:33

You called Yolofish a racist arsehole for a comment about Meghan that didn't have any mention of race. You stated as a fact that Piers Morgan hates black women and regularly targets Serena Williams and then ignored the evidence that they are friends.

allibaby · 30/06/2019 11:36

@Haworthia
Considering that poster has practically accused every poster who doesn't agree with her or doesn't particularly like Meghan as being racist, I'm not sure what else it could be described as.

Said poster really does come across as having a chip on her shoulder and I stick by my opinion.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 30/06/2019 11:38

Well I'm black, and no before I get accused of 'suddenly announcing' I'm black I've done so previously on other threads so there.

You know this whole 'inclusion on the basis of colour' ie you can't criticise a person of colour if you also are that colour, you can only say positive things - or you can't criticise a person of colour if you're not that colour because automatically that makes you racist, always strikes me as going against the very antidote of racism which is that we form our views on people based on their perceived character.

Racist white people accept and include other white people and exclude PoC because only their skin colour matters not their character, not their actions, not their achievements. No matter what you do, if you're black, you'll never be accepted, but you could be the chainsaw murderer and accepted over a decent black person because you're white.

Conversely some PoC are positive about other PoC due only to their skin colour, not their character, not their actions, not their achievements, not matter what they do, they'll never be rejected.

Two sides of the same coin.

I'm not a MM fan. It has nothing to do with her colour. I am free to dislike her as I am free to dislike anyone, just as I'm also free to love her based on how I interpret her actions. I find nothing she's done so far marries with my personal politics, my ethics etc. Others think she's wonderful. All good. I don't.

I also don't love Michelle Obama just because I should based on her colour. But I greatly respect her because of what she has achieved.

I'm not blind to the fact that MM receives an extra layer of vitriol from the press because of her colour. But she was always going to receive extra scrutiny regardless - she's an American born divorced actress, any personal faux pas are noted. They need better PR.

And yes KM did regularly get a bollocking in the press. I remember after her public engagement to PW, the DM did a story which made Carol Middleton out to be an overly ambitious, pushy, money grabbing, try hard, mother, who had hit the jack pot and systematically groomed her daughters to climb the social ladder and stepped out of her place. Pippa Middleton was potrayed as an unstable older sister past her best, always going out to 'have a hood time' and possibly jealous of her sisters success.

You have no idea what background people posting on MN are. It gets tedious having to constantly 'prove' ones 'right'Hmm to type something based on colour and/or ethnic background. And it's always the same bloody people on all the same bloody threads.

Ghanagirl · 30/06/2019 11:40

@Bluestitch
Go after me as much as you like I will still call out racism.
I was mistaken about Piers Morgan dislike of serena Williams as was the poster who described the weather man who was berated as white.
I still think people mostly white women continue to attack MM for quite pathetic reasons which they don’t in other high profile women.

allibaby · 30/06/2019 11:40

@Ghanagirl
Get a grip, I told my best friend she had a chip on her shoulder last night and she's not Black.
OMG shock horror that must mean my post was nothing to do with your skin colour because guess what it wasn't. I don't even know your skin colour how could I?
I'm afraid you playi g the victim here doesn't wash with me love.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 30/06/2019 11:40

younger, good time.

savethecake · 30/06/2019 11:41

I think allibaby was being specific to Ghanagirl, she wasn't making a sweepung statement. Tbh I agree, she does come across that way.

findingmyfeet12 · 30/06/2019 11:45

I still think that a lot of the hatred towards MM (and Serena Williams as it happens) is racist - make of that what you will.

I don't believe the criticism of KM was in the same league at all.

As for the engagement ring, is it really a matter of public interest? Who cares? It literally says nothing about her at all and to ascribe personally traits to her on the basis of an altered ring is bizarre.

Someone upthread has literally stated that we don't know whether she's also toxic like her family. I guess non of the other royals have any skeletons in the closet.

I would still like to hear whether those who dislike her also dislike the DoE?

Incidentally I dislike all of them equally for what they represent from the "hardworking" Princess Anne through to public enemy number one MM.

Bluestitch · 30/06/2019 11:50

I was mistaken about Piers Morgan dislike of serena Williams as was the poster who described the weather man who was berated as white

And that poster acknowledged their mistake straight away but you ignored yours. Did it not give you pause for thought? You just casually threw a comment out there labelling somebody racist and hating X person. You were wrong, maybe you are wrong about some posters on here too?

I still think people mostly white women continue to attack MM for quite pathetic reasons which they don’t in other high profile women

That may be the case for some, but what about for example all the criticism Eugenie got for her wedding security costs? Why is that okay but H and M can't be criticised for their spending?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 30/06/2019 11:52

I always thought, and said, that Meghan Markle is very good looking and stylish.

I do also think that she spends far too much on some ill fitting and not very well made dresses, and I think that her reworking of her engagement ring is tacky.

I would never say anything about her character, because I just don't know her.

Am I allowed to say this?

Bluestitch · 30/06/2019 12:00

I'm not keen on Harry or Meghan's public personas because I find them too preachy/ Hollywoody and in a similar vein to the Clooneys, Gwyneth etc. It's not my cup of tea, although I find Harry more annoying than Meghan. I think there is an air of up yours to the public who are funding them and they can't decide if they want to be celebrities or royals.

Ghanagirl · 30/06/2019 12:04

Two sides of the same coin.
It really isn’t.
Plus there’s loads of black people in the public eye that I can’t stand (Ainsley Harriott springs to mind)
But I continue to assert a lot of MM haters think she’s over confident and uppity lots talk of her needing to know her place which is dog whistle racism.

Ghanagirl · 30/06/2019 12:07

@findingmyfeet12
You know what I find scary is that MN is so supposed to be full of educated people yet as soon as MM is mentioned it becomes like the Daily Mail comments section.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/06/2019 12:09

A thoroughly sensible post, Catherine; the only point I'd take issue with is the bit about it being "tedious having to constantly 'prove' ones 'right'"

You don't have to, you see - firstly because everyone's entitled to their view, and secondly because there's just no point when dealing with any poster who tries to derail and encourage a bunfight in order to get a thread deleted

We see it again and again and it beats me why folk rise to it. Much better, surely, to just ignore the goading?

savethecake · 30/06/2019 12:10

Still no sign of Archie yet, so out of character for such a limelight loving couple. A peek at a foot or a hand. How they love to taunt the taxpayer. We didn't even see him in that first photo shoot, only a peek at half the face. . No doctors signatures on birth announcement......and a host of other odd things ( which people seem to ignore) .Something very strange going on.......Time will tell.

findingmyfeet12 · 30/06/2019 12:11

I'm not sure how H&M are more preachy than Charles, William and KM?

Charles recently delivered an opening speech for David Attenborough's new series on conservation where he arrived in a limo to preach to ordinary people about saving the planet.

KM, as someone with access to the best childcare that money can buy and no financial fears for her children's future, talked about the challenges of motherhood.

K&W talk about mental health in a country where services in this area are inadequately funded for those in need.

No better than MM and her ridiculous writing on bananas fiasco.

savethecake · 30/06/2019 12:14

Ghanagirl Ainsley Harriot? I like him, bet you don't say that about Gordon Ramsey..... Must be racism. See the point?

Feelingsad19 · 30/06/2019 12:17

But I continue to assert a lot of MM haters think she’s over confident and uppity lots talk of her needing to know her place which is dog whistle racism.

I think the idea of someone marrying into the royal family and “knowing her place” is more around the RF being a constitutional monarchy which would collapse if the subjects revolted. They need to tread a fine line in order to exist at all and the sort of reckless spending that Harry and Meghan have displayed recently is tone deaf at a time when the country is knees deep in austerity.

Princess Michael et al are constantly being criticised for similar vulgar traits.

Recognising this doesn’t not make you racist!

findingmyfeet12 · 30/06/2019 12:17

I would bet a years salary that the Chelsea flower show garden photos of the Cambridge family would have caused widespread criticism and accusations of narcissism had they been of H&M.

Bluestitch · 30/06/2019 12:17

Interesting it's just been announced that they are having a private christening for Archie next weekend, to shield him from the public gaze. Their prerogative of course, but this is one of the things I think requires better PR especially in the week they've been criticised for spending public money. I think a lot of the goodwill the Cambridges currently get is due to their kids. They manage to balance giving their kids a pretty sheltered childhood whilst also acknowledging their position and the interest and affection the public have. They managed to allow filming of arrival so people could have a peek followed by private christening ceremonies.

findingmyfeet12 · 30/06/2019 12:20

Of course they won't show the baby. He's not real after all. The pregnancy was fake, remember?

That dodgy Birth Certificate proved it.

findingmyfeet12 · 30/06/2019 12:23

Maybe W&K are just better at playing us for fools? They know that the occasional glimpse of their children is enough to ensure that we continue to fund their lifestyle.

Feelingsad19 · 30/06/2019 12:23

I agree @Bluestitch.

Before Archie was born I liked MM and thought good on her for doing her own thing yet within the parameters of the RF “rules”.

Then they (Harry and Meghan) lied about the labour and birth which made me lose respect for them and their integrity. It came across as immature and manipulative. Not a good look.
