To put my swim things through the washing machine? (Lighthearted)

We're currently having our kitchen and bathroom redone, so after swim class with DS we went to the PIL for a proper shower.
I asked MIL if I could run all the swimming stuff through her machine as it was a sunny day and I could get it out on the line and she was aghast.
She said that swim thing shouldn't be put through a machine as they lose elasticity.
Personally I'd just buy new stuff if that happened but our stuff has always been fine going in the machine and I really can't abide the thought of not properly washing them after the chlorine and skin cell soup.

Always put our swimming gear in the machine - never had a problem. Don’t know what she’s on about 🤷‍♀️

I've never heard of this so always flung them in the general wash (no separating in the jam house) at 40 normally. Never in my life have I seen a swimming costume that has lost its elasticity. What would that even look like!?

I've always thrown em in the washer with the rest of the laundry and nothing has ever happened to them. The kids only ever need new ones when they grow out of them or when they get too tatty as the bums go bobbly thanks to sitting on the rough non slip pool tiles.

Although these days I just hang them over a radiator to dry because DS is swimming every couple of days and they wouldn't get washed and dried in time. Too much laundry to get lost in.

I tend to chuck the contents of the swimming bag in for a short wash after their weekly swim. The DCs trunks last them for years because they grow longer in the chest and legs and don't fill them out on the width.
