To ask if have or use your landline?

I have just come to the realisation that we hardly ever use our landline or receive calls on it. Everything is done via mobiles now. Are landlines going to be a thing of the past? Do you use yours much?

Have to have one I think as part of BT package?
Only my mum rings ok it! Hmm

SadOtter · 23/06/2019 20:58

doesnt your ear get hot and do you worry about brain tumours

No, I'm never on it more than a minute or two and no, because most research has determined there isn't a link between mobiles and brain tumours.

Proseccoinamug · 23/06/2019 21:06

I only have one because I can’t get broadband here without it. I don’t even know what the number is.

Whitelisbon · 23/06/2019 21:16

I'm another one who lives in a mobile blackspot.
The annoying thing is, most companies nowadays are set up to automatically ring mobile numbers. Trying to sort specialist car insurance was a nightmare, as every company insisted on taking my mobile number, and, despite me telling them to call the landline, called me back with quotes on my mobile.
Which meant I spent the large part of a week driving 10 miles or so to find a signal to be able to access my voicemails.
I went with the company who actually called the landline. The only 1 of about 15.

99% of the time I have the wee voicemail signal displayed on my phone. It's there now.
I'm going shopping tomorrow, so I'll listen to it and delete it then. If I remember!

We have no mobile reception at home so yes we have one and use it.

nocoolnamesleft · 23/06/2019 21:22

Yes. Far better reception.

Magicpaintbrush · 23/06/2019 21:36

I never make calls on my mob - I can hear better on the landline, and everybody I know always ring on the landline. Mob is just for messaging etc.

Sparklingbrook · 23/06/2019 21:41

We have it because we have to as part of the Sky package.

Never use it to dial out but occasionally we will get a call from school/GP on it.

echt · 23/06/2019 21:49

Better reception on the landline.

Oddly it is always the landline that's used to relay bad news from abroad, so when it goes off in the night...Sad

flossie86 · 23/06/2019 21:57

We dont have a landline but my mum does, we always laugh about the time my nephew lifted it & said what's this? When we told him it was a phone he started turning it around confused (i assume looking for a screen) and asked did it have any games Grin

Nat6999 · 23/06/2019 22:03

I think I've got a landline, I pay line rental because I have to for my broadband package, haven't had a phone connected for over 5 years. I'm on an unlimited mobile contract so use my mobile for everything. I don't even know my landline phone number.

EmeraldEagle · 23/06/2019 22:08

I have a landline but the only person who has the number is my mum. I occasionally use it to ring out as our mobile reception at home is crap!

Rezie · 23/06/2019 22:12

Haven't had one in the house for a decade. Only person I know to have one are the in laws and grandparents.
