To think Boris Johnson is going to find a way to get out of becoming PM

.....because he knows he can’t deliver a Brexit that will please anyone let alone everyone.

I said this before the news story about the row with his girlfriend broke.

That wasn’t too damaging so he’s going to have to up the ante.

What could he possibly do to get himself off the hook now?

I agree, I said so on the other thread. It’s all about ego for him, he’ll never actually put his money where his mouth is because he won’t risk failing. He’ll wait until the last minute and say he’s changed his mind and it’s not for him.

NotTheQueensBirthday · 23/06/2019 12:32

I agree too. He's either going to "let" various off putting stories get into the media (Like the row) or just pull out at the last minute saying it's not the right time for him. Then he can let someone else's career be killed by Brexit.

Zipee · 23/06/2019 12:36

His supporters don't care, if he backs out now he is finished fot ever

Bearbehind · 23/06/2019 12:37

I reckon he’s going for a multi- pronged approach.

Irritatingly for him he is so far ahead in the polls he’ll win so I reckon he’ll try anything.

First on the list seems to be either not turning up to debates / hustings or just being dreadful if he doesn’t show up

Second is a few leaked stories

But then what?

Nothing so far is enough to get him out of the firing line

That’s his dilemma - he needs something that gets him of the hook right now, maybe a bit of damage for a short tme but allows him another chance when the Brexit shit show has passed.

^^ does show up not doesn’t

I think he desperately wants to be PM, but not until this tricky Brexit stuff is out of the way. That was why he wriggled out of standing last time.

it is almost going to be fun watching him trying to get out of it this time, but still leaving the door for later. I think he may go for a conveniently temporary health issue, either his or a close family member.

MargotsFlounceyBlouse · 23/06/2019 12:50

He won't try to get out, he will press on and become PM because he is rich and powerful and normal rules of behaviour or consequences don't apply to him. He will make a complete dogs breakfast of Brexit but like Cameron just leave the pooey loo roll all over the bathroom for someone else to clean up whilst he swans off to the after dinner circuit.

Bearbehind · 23/06/2019 12:51

Except he can’t ‘do a Cameron’ margots - that’s his problem.

He actually needs to deal with this shit is he comes PM now.

OP posts:
GimmieTheCoffeeAndNooneDies · 23/06/2019 12:52

I think his problem is he is so effective at campaigning it sort of carries over on it's own momemtum, so self-sabotage will be difficult.

Idontwanttotalk · 23/06/2019 12:53

If this is true, why would there be accusations of skullduggery in order to have eliminated Michael Gove from the competition rather than Jeremy Hunt?

Do you view Jeremy Hunt as harder to beat than Michael Gove or do you think Boris Johnson only decided at the final stage that he couldn't hack the job?

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 23/06/2019 12:56

I don't get the vibe he wants out.
I think he really wants this job and don't really understand why you think otherwise?Smile genuinely.

NotTheQueensBirthday · 23/06/2019 12:56

*I think he may go for a conveniently temporary health issue, either his or a close family member
Ah yes, that would be a good one.

sashh · 23/06/2019 12:56

Yep I think illness or an addiction.

Probably addiction to red wine, ruining the sofa and having the police called has made him realise he needs to address his problems, he will book into clinic in another country and come out thinner with the 'full support' of his partner.

NotTheQueensBirthday · 23/06/2019 12:56

Sorry, bold fail.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 23/06/2019 12:59

I don't actually understand why anyone would put themselves forward at this stage.
I'd be biding my time and letting some other poor nugget deal with Brexit.
Career suicide for May I can't see how it will be different for the next one.

Bearbehind · 23/06/2019 13:06

I think he really wants this job and don't really understand why you think otherwise?

Why on earth would you think anyone would really want this job?

It’s a poison chalice - a Brexit that pleases the vast majority is simply impossible

OP posts:
Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 23/06/2019 13:14

I do why wonder why anyone wants the job.
I just think he is more deluded than most and thinks it's his natural destiny to be PM.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 23/06/2019 13:15

What I meant was what is it about his current actions that make you think he is self sabotaging?

MotherOfSoupDragons · 23/06/2019 13:19

But he's only just put his hat in the ring. Of course he wants to win and be PM the idiot.

Bearbehind · 23/06/2019 13:20

What I meant was what is it about his current actions that make you think he is self sabotaging?

At the moment, pretty much everything he says and does.

He isn't behaving like a man who wants to win this race.

OP posts:
Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 23/06/2019 13:25

I just don't think he has any policies and thinks he can win on his perceived Boris charisma, that while cheeky chappy buffoon schtick he has going on.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 23/06/2019 13:26

*with that

Pinkmouse6 · 23/06/2019 13:29

He was always going to be our next PM, I never ever doubted that.

ForalltheSaints · 23/06/2019 13:42

I disagree. I think he wants the job. I think he may be struggling with having to be 'on-message' and be fearful of being challenged about anything with detail.
