To think Boris Johnson is going to find a way to get out of becoming PM

.....because he knows he can’t deliver a Brexit that will please anyone let alone everyone.

I said this before the news story about the row with his girlfriend broke.

That wasn’t too damaging so he’s going to have to up the ante.

What could he possibly do to get himself off the hook now?

I don't believe for one minute he'd pull out again.
He's desperate to be PM and I think it's a now or never thing.
Brexit will be a disaster, there will be a GE.
Tories won't get in again for a bit and he's run out of steam, after having done the London Mayor thing.
He's struggle to get another cabinet position after his crap tenure as Foreign Secretary.

HorridHenrysNits · 23/06/2019 15:14

I don't know that there'll be a GE yet, simply because Labour and the Tories have the overwhelming majority of MPs and both know they're doing very badly in the polls. Even with FPTP they both stand to lose seats.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 23/06/2019 15:39

No not a general election now but sometime after the approaching Brexit fiasco.
Tories won't get in again for some time so Boris has to grab the opportunity now because he thinks it's his destiny.

I think he really wants this job and don't really understand why you think otherwise?smile genuinely.

Because when Cameron resigned he refused to run for PM and left it to a Remain voter to sort. Hardly committed to his cause.

It’s like wanting to be a Head Teacher but only a slightly failing school you can turn round. He doesn’t want the Good school because it’s too much work to keep there. He doesn’t want the challenging schools because he’s not up to the job.

I think he’ll be PM, throw out a couple of populist party favours, come out of the EU and then hope for a general election before Brexit fallout gets messy. He can then blame it on the voters and the next in power.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 23/06/2019 15:56

He didn't want it then because there was too much shit to sort out.
There is still too much shit to sort out but as per my last post, I just think he needs to be PM however short that tenure may be?

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 23/06/2019 15:59

I don't disagree with you btw regarding blame being shoved in someone else's direction when it all goes south.

Reba0706 · 23/06/2019 16:02

Interesting...I never thought that he would pull out but maybe you're onto something.

I do think it will happen at some point but when it’s a bit easier for him to make his legacy - now isn’t that time.

I think he is running out of momentum though?
I don't know where else he could make his mark that people would think "yeh he's the man for the job" if he leaves it much longer?

Outsomnia · 23/06/2019 17:15

I did for a while think he was posturing and would find a way out. Now I'm not so sure.

As for delivering Brexit, not going to happen with No Deal or without WA.

I think he will go for a border in the Irish Sea and flick one to the DUP. In the hope he may get some in other parties with half a brain to back him since DUP will not if he does this.

Then bring WA back to HOC and see what happens. Sounds like a plan, apart from revoking which won't happen. Or will it? Only needs PM to do this AFAIK, i.e. no vote in Parliament.

I am totally baffled at those who think NO DEAL is great. There is no analysis at all. But anyway, another month of boredom and waiting, unless his opponent backs out.

Bearbehind · 23/06/2019 19:04

Well, if nothing else, it’s going to be an interesting month
