Posting as it's the busiest group but please tell me your stories on 3rd babies being born.
Was it quicker than the first two? I'm really excited I'm due January but hoping I deliver around Christmas time Grin 🎄

1st was 24hours and back-to-back, awful.
2nd was 4.5hours.
3rd was only 4 hours but also back-to-back and an absolute nightmare 1.5hours of pushing ending in 3rd degree tear.

Fairyjuice · 22/06/2019 21:38

I was induced at 37 weeks with my first and he came by ventouse after 8-9 hours.

Number 2 I went into labour just past 40 weeks, had an amazingly easy labour. Went in at 9am as I was due to be induced, started getting contractions as I was going through the door. Managed on the ward til about 430pm when they took me down to the labour suite I was already 5cm. Waters broke just before crowning and baby came out easily with no pushing at around 530pm and I walked back to the ward myself at 7 and sent DH for a chippie tea.

Labour number 3 was shaping up to be similar to number 2. I was 40+2 and contractions started strong and fast at around 4pm. Arrived at maternity at 430pm. Checked and was 4cm. Up to the labour suite and progressed fine, all good. At around 630pm I was checked and was at 8cm, then waters broke and baby decided it didn't want to come out and in the space of 5 minutes, went from head down and engaged to footlong breech Shock Rushed to theatre for emcs. Managed to keep calm and can joke about it now (DD is still a little diva), but was a bit annoying to have to go through full labour and have an emcs anyway Hmm

So broad range of labouring experiences here! I remember the midwife telling me that third babies have a habit of being troublesome. Was definitely true in my case as I had a bad pregnancy and ended up in hospital with sepsis at one stage, and then the dramatic labour.

DC1, 12 days over, 22 hours of labour, born with epidural and ventouse
DC2, 14 days over (spontaneous labour the morning I was booked for induction), 6 hours labour, born without pain relief and born en caul (waters never broke)
DC3, 14 days over, induced (just one pessary), 28 minutes labour, born without pain relief in 2 pushes

Notashandyta · 22/06/2019 21:42

First- 24 hours Born one week early

Second, induction- 24 hours Born one week late (both epidural)

Third- 4 hours Born one week late! Surprise home birth as the paramedic said itbwas too late to move me (Reluctantly phoned 999 up in waking as I suspected we may not male it to hospital. Stretch and sweep easier that day and I wasn't even 1 cm!)
3rd was by far my fave birth

ALittleBitofVitriol · 22/06/2019 21:43

Fastest here too...

#1 - 7hrs from induction (at 4cm), 40+1
#2 - 7 hrs from first contraction, 40+5
#3 -

Notashandyta · 22/06/2019 21:44

Just read a pp say 3rd births supposed to be a nightmare... I heard many times they go one way or another! Either a piece of cake or a mare. Hope it's an easy one for you!

doleritedinosaur · 22/06/2019 21:44

1st - 37 weeks induction, active labour is recorded at 45 minutes.
2nd - home birth 1.5 hoursish of active labour.
3rd - home birth, but back to back, so think it was 2 hours of active labour, I wouldn’t let the midwife examine me.

Mamamere · 22/06/2019 21:44

3rd labour/3rd inductionHmmwas MUCH easier/shorter & overall recovery time much much swifterGrin

sweetkitty · 22/06/2019 21:47

45 minutes for me
Homebirth too waters popped, DH phones MW she hadn’t got her gloves on so DH caught the head. What I do remember is not pushing like with the other two, I was in a foetal position with the lovely gas and air (this is my preferred labour position) and felt her coming so turned onto my back and her head was out followed shortly by a body. There was no active pushing it was as if my body just expelled her.

Afterpains were horrific though, was like still being in labour ouch.

fairgroundsnack · 22/06/2019 21:53

My DC3 was born at 40+1, planned home birth as other two were very quick. Woke up feeling a bit twingy so asked DH to WFH and do the school run. Then felt fine so went off shopping with my mum and sister, went out for lunch, then started to feel a bit uncomfortable again so went home. Called midwife, popped on the tens machine, started filling the pool. He was born 90 mins later at 4pm,no pain relief other than the pool. Very civilised!!

Neolara · 22/06/2019 21:55

30 minutes start to finish. Delivered by DH in the kitchen.

TheVanguardSix · 22/06/2019 21:57

All three of mine were born at 40+ weeks (give or take a day or two) and all were close to the same weight, though DC3 was my lightest at 8 pounds (8 1/2 DCs 1 & 2).
But labour was shortest with DC2, longest with DC1. Though with DC3, I think I began contractions around 3-4am and delivered a little after 1pm next day. So from full on labour to delivery, it was probably about 5 hours.

Frenchfancy · 22/06/2019 22:01

1st 13hrs @39 weeks
2nd 7 hrs @39 weeks
3rd 72 hrs at 35 weeks.

You did ask!

Lemonlady22 · 22/06/2019 22:02

1st..water broke friday night born at 12.20 sunday morning, need an episiotomy as born back to back (had a bad reaction to epidural) 2nd...waters broke in morning, went into hospital had no pain all day, my husband went home about 10pm by 2 am they called him back as was dilated and had baby by 7am with just entonox, easy peasy 3rd... was in labour in morning, went to labour ward where it all went wrong, ended up with emergency c section and need a blood transfusion (my smallest baby too)....if i had had her first she would have been an only child!

GuiltyPleasure · 22/06/2019 22:23

From the onset of labour..
1st, due date, 15 hours. Waters broke at start of labour. Failed ventouse, forceps & epidural. Delivered as they were prepping me for c-section
2nd 40+7, 4 hours. Less than an hour in hospital before delivery. Waters broke when I got to hospital. Gas & air.. no time for anything else 😫
3rd 40 +7, 15 hours. Failed epidural. Gas & air. Waters broke on delivery. DS delivered in sac.
All very different, apart from epidurals not working on me!

Babyroobs · 22/06/2019 22:27

My third was a very quick intense labour, about 2.5 hours all together. Big baby.

Crunchymum · 22/06/2019 22:28

DC3 was an induction.

24h pessary, 22h of niggles (was fine, went out for lunch and dinner!).... went from one "proper" contraction to delivering baby in about 20 mins.

3rd baby's hang around!!!

Mine was 38w but planned induction (GD)

Crunchymum · 22/06/2019 22:30
  • don't hang around Grin
Jamhandprints · 22/06/2019 22:32

1st 6 hours
2nd 2 hours
3rd 4 hours

Crunchymum · 22/06/2019 22:32

DC1 52h, 41+9
DC2 90 mins 40+1
DC3 20 mins 38w (although 22 hours of niggles before!!)

MyElbowIsItchy · 22/06/2019 22:35

No 3 was the only one that my waters went with. Labour started 12 hours later and she was born 45 mins later.

Definitely my quickest labour, others were ds 2 hrs, dd 1.5hrs, dd 1hr and then our last was 2.5hrs , with these 4 my waters went as the head crowned.

recklessgran · 22/06/2019 22:36

1st DD 2 and three quarter hours, 2nd DD 1 and a half hours, 3rd DD 25mins - was 10cms when I arrived at hospital and was still wearing my maternity dress when she was delivered in a side room. Only went in because I had a bit of a backache and she wasn't moving, hoping to be induced.
Good luck OP - hope you get a 25 minute one - I felt great and could have got up and walked home afterwards no problem. I know how lucky I am. Went on to have 2 more also quick labours.

ClaphamOmniwuss · 22/06/2019 22:42

DC1 &2 both 7 hour labours. DC3 I went to my midwife appointment at 41 weeks and when she went to do a sweep she discovered I was 5cm dilated...🤔 so she sent me straight to the maternity unit. The staff were all laughing at me telling them, as I stood there with no apparent contractions. They stick me in a room with a birthing ball - 40 mins later DD was born...😂

Blonde87 · 23/06/2019 14:06

With my 3rd lay down with stomach pains then gave birth 20 minutes later on the living room floor, my fiancé delivered her! Other two labours were 12 hours each xx
