To buy a shopping trolley bag?

Moltenpink · 22/06/2019 08:41

I’m 38, no health problems. WIBU to buy a shopping trolley bag thing to carry my food about a mile home from the shops?

They just seem like such a practical thing, but I only ever see older people with them. Will my family disown me through embarrassment?!

Nah. They're pretty sensible. You'd want one with really good wheels, though.

Ellmau · 22/06/2019 08:43

YANBU. Any critics should be invited to accompany you and carry the shopping instead.

MrsMoastyToasty · 22/06/2019 08:45

I've also seen young families using them to take towels and stuff to the beach.

Moltenpink · 22/06/2019 08:46

Thank you! My finger is hovering over the buy button. Some of them look quite stylish Blush

I'd say you'd be staving off future health problems if you did! You'd be able to walk faster and with a straight back, not burdened with the weight of your shopping. Your spine and shoulders will thank you in about twenty years time, so go for it.

I used a Hoppa trolley to take books to & from school when I taught near where I lived. They're flippin brilliant!

Powerplant · 22/06/2019 08:54

All the uni students use them around here from Asda/Sainsbury’s back to halls and they’re not mature students 😊😊

miaCara · 22/06/2019 08:57

They are brilliant for carrying all of the stuff you need in a practical way. But you do need good wheels so that the empty trolley doest make that horrible rattling that sets your teeth on edge.
I love my trolley but am acutely aware of the rattling. I did try putting a ream of paper in the bottom once but it kind of defeated the object .

formerbabe · 22/06/2019 08:59

I have one Blush I take it to the beach too...it's so useful!

formerbabe · 22/06/2019 08:59

Get a nice one...mine is black and white polka dots.

Moltenpink · 22/06/2019 09:04

Right I’m off to buy one now. If there’s a polka dot one then it’s mine!

I've been pondering this, so can you post links to good ones please?

my2bundles · 22/06/2019 10:47

Get one. I don't drive so this is the best way for me to transport a weekly shop. Ignore other people, they don't have to carry it so don't warrant an say.

MrsMozartMkII · 22/06/2019 10:50

I'd happily use one if I needed to cart stuff about any distance. I use my step-mum's when I stay with her as it's less hassle than driving to the shops.

jackparlabane · 22/06/2019 10:50

Get one. I use mine a couple times a week instead of taking the car. Also handy for collecting kids from school on Fridays and chucking book bags, coats, PE kit, books all in it.
For reference you can fill one of those small trolleys and have it fit in the pull-along trolley, possibly with a few fragile items in a carrier bag in your other hand.

Candlesonthetable · 22/06/2019 10:57

Yes please to any links to good not rattly ones!

ChesterDrawsDoesntExist · 22/06/2019 10:57

Things like that are actually coming back. They're a great idea. I already use my own coffee cup, use fabric bags and try to buy things locally, fresh and not in packaging if possible. Won't be long til we're going back the way in terms of how we shop and returning to the methods from 30+ years ago.

FortunaMajor · 22/06/2019 11:03

My mum has one that's made with knock off Roxy fabric. Gives her cool points with the teen grandkids.

If you want something less conspicuous, do you have a small suitcase on wheels that you can use? I saw a lot of students do this when I lived in a uni town and thought it was a great idea to use what they already had.

I'm the same age and wouldn't hesitate if I needed one. You only get one body, don't trash it needlessly.

Bezalelle · 22/06/2019 11:04

I bought one of these a few months ago, and have never looked back! So practical.

I got it from B&M bargains - about £7.

Whoopsies · 22/06/2019 11:16

I have one! I love it, so much easier for carrying heavy things and bette4 for you. I literally couldn't give a sh*t if anyone would judge it!

Trafalger · 22/06/2019 11:53

I'm an advertisers dream. After reading this thread I now want one! Would make some stuff so much easier.

amusedbush · 22/06/2019 11:55

I bought a polka dot one from Argos when I was 22. I'm 29 now and I still have it, though the wheels have seen better days.

I've never had any funny looks (that I've noticed, anyway!) and it makes carrying shopping home much easier.

Oysterbabe · 22/06/2019 11:56

I'm 38 and have talked about getting one once my youngest is out of the buggy, I'll miss the big basket so much. My husband laughed and called me a saddo so I'm not sure now.

Rainbowknickers · 22/06/2019 12:01

I love mine
I used to shove everything under the buggy until she got too big for it and I wasn’t gonna carry 6 kids worth of stuff plus my own
They seemed to be trendy so I got one and it changed my life
It broke about 6 months ago and I really miss it
I think my stepdaughter might never speak to me again if I get another tho (just saying hi to a friend in the supermarket causes her to run away in shame) lol
If I can find a pretty one it’s mine

Jemima232 · 22/06/2019 12:04

Absolutely get one.

I've had one for ages but DH refuses to use it as he thinks he ought to be able to carry the shopping.

Not my problem if he does his back in.
