user1471514421 · 21/06/2019 14:18

Can anyone advise if this is a good/ reasonable day on low carb?

B- 3eggs scrambled
L- leaves, tomato, pepper, scallion, chicken fillet, feta
D- salmon, veg
Snacks- numerous cups of tea, apple pear, mango, strawberry

Thanks in advance

Lot of fruit sugar and therefore carb in the mango and strawbs. Drink plenty of water to help prevent constipation.

Pursefirst · 21/06/2019 14:25

I would cut down on the fruit snacks OP and replace them with protein shakes (will keep you full for longer) or 0% Greek yoghurt with berries.

Oysterbabe · 21/06/2019 14:26

The fruit is not low carb. I think you need more fat with your dinner. A cream sauce maybe?

user1471514421 · 21/06/2019 14:31

Ok so the cut fruit. Other than that?

A cream sauce, not sure I could stomach that. Can you advise how it is made?

The lunch salad doesn't sound very filling. Add more protein like hard boiled eggs, meat, make a dressing, more cheese

Pomfluff · 21/06/2019 14:43

Strawberry is (surprisingly) very low carb so fine to stick with that! I found it was easier to limit myself to one serving of fruit a day as a treat instead of banning them completely. I‘d mix strawberries with full fat greek yoghurt and chopped 85% dark chocolate. Banana is the only fruit to truly avoid as that‘s almost entirely carb and sugar.

MassDebate · 21/06/2019 14:48

It looks pretty typical. I’d add some spinach or other veg to your scrambled egg, and include a handful of nuts for a snack or some greek yoghurt with your berries. Make sure your lunch has plenty of protein otherwise you’ll feel hungry later - you need quite a lot to make up for the lost carbs.

user1471514421 · 21/06/2019 14:52

Should I limit the amount of eggs I eat in a day/ week?

Why are you going low carb? To lose weight? Or because you have an intolerance?

MereDintofPandiculation · 21/06/2019 15:23

There used to be a restriction on eggs because of the cholesterol content of the yolks. It's now been decided that it doesn't affect your levels of cholesterol, so need to restrict intake on that account.

Belindabelle · 21/06/2019 15:31

B What are you using to scramble your eggs?
L Add some mayo or avocado to increase the fat. Tomatoes and
peppers can be carb in high amounts.
D What veg did you have.

Are you having milk in your numerous cups of tea. Small amount of berries are ok but no to the other fruit. If needed nuts, cheese, full fat greek yoghurt make good snacks.

user1471514421 · 21/06/2019 15:32

Low carb because its seems to be the general consensus that it is the way to go! I have started personal training, pt says my weight is fine, just trying to get as lean as possible

Belindabelle nothing to scramble literally just the egg. Dinner veg broccoli and green beans. Yes take full fat milk in tea

Boiled eggs are your friend. I have 2 soft boiled for breakfast and 2 for a snack later in the day dipped in a small bit of salad cream, or with ham and leaves for lunch

user1471514421 · 21/06/2019 15:34

Thanks MereDintofPandiculation

Quite nice to put some grated cheese in the scrambled eggs, only a small bit gives you some good fat and makes it taste yummy!

user1471514421 · 21/06/2019 15:40

Desmondo2016 good tip thanks

YesQueen · 21/06/2019 15:45

Add some fat
Cheese or butter to the eggs, goats cheese or feta is nice too
Creamy dressing or mayo (check carb counts) for salad

Havenly · 21/06/2019 15:47

Are you trying to do High Fat and Low Carb for a keto effect- in which case, you need more good fats.
Or looking to do Low Carbs as a means to Low Calorie overall?

chasingseagulls · 21/06/2019 15:50

Low carb because its seems to be the general consensus that it is the way to go - who is this consensus and the way to go where?

If this is for purely aesthetic reasons and you want to shred body fat to make your muscle tone appear on the surface then please be aware this is not a long term sustainable lifestyle choice. Unless you have a natural predisposition to being lean and toned, it simply won't last, and a diet that lacking in essential carbohydrates is extremely damaging to your health. You won't have the energy to sustain the training you are doing for a start.

Sounds like you need some advice from a qualified nutritionist, not some unqualified randoms on the internet, and if this is your personal trainer advising you, I'd check on their qualifications too, most are not qualified in that area.

user1471514421 · 21/06/2019 15:50

Havenly maybe lower calorie overall? What is best?

OP posts:
user1471514421 · 21/06/2019 15:54

chasingseagulls, the way to go, it's a figure of speech.

Yes purely for aesthetic reasons. No pt did not give this advice

Utter bullshit.

Low carbing works. You don't need shitty carbs in your diet op.

I'd continue as you are op, maybe add some butter to those eggs in a morning

MoreSlidingDoors · 21/06/2019 17:24

a diet that lacking in essential carbohydrates is extremely damaging to your health.

This has been disproven by recent research. You need to have plenty of protein to avoid metabolic damage on a low carb/low cal diet, but that’s not hard (and I say that as a vegetarian).
