Loads of stuff on the internet, either Diabetic or Keto sites
I am Type 2 diabetic and bloody miss my carbs.

This site is great - sugarfreelondoner.com/

OP another option is the IIFYM (if it fits your macros).

My DH lost 90lbs doing IIFYM and he has kept it off for over 5 years now. I do it too, because it is a great way to still eat carbs/fat/protein, but to track how much you are eating.

Your PT should be able to come up with your calorie/macro plan, but feel free to PM me and I can send you a calculator.

Michael Mosley recommends less fruit and if you do, fruit grown in the UK has much less sugar than tropical fruit, as a rule of thumb. Get the Blood Sugar Diet recipe book.

To reiterate to all the naysayers on here, note that I said shitty carbs. White bread, rice, processed cakes, pies, cookies etc.

Carbs that are good are found in fruit, veg, pulses, squash, potatoes.

MoreSlidingDoors · 21/06/2019 18:49

In what way are they “good” carbs?

Havenly · 21/06/2019 22:43

I have lost 3 stone over the past year eating moderate carbs within a low calorie (1200) diet.
I'm tallish but fairly sedentary and calculated from Basal Metabolic rate etc that 1200 calories per day would give me a weight loss of 2lb per week. I often lost 3lb a week for the first stone and sometimes only 1lb as I neared my target.
I track everything on My Fitness Pal, and weigh portions out. I eat loads of eggs, salmon, bone broth, chicken, thin sliced beef, leafy greens, salads and raspberries. I save quite a lot of my daily calories for prunes which are not low carb at all but are very good for my bone health - and for lactose-free milky coffees (lower carb but not lower calorie than regular milk...).
To maintain my weight, the bmr calculator says 1900 calories so I can enjoy avocado, yoghurt, a little bit of cheese and the odd slice of wholemeal toast with butter.

Milk is too high in sugar for a low carb diet

namechangedforanon · 21/06/2019 23:02

Mango and apple can go .

Other than that very good

namechangedforanon · 21/06/2019 23:03

You also need to up your healthy fats

Milk restricted but can have full fat yoghurt?? So confusing! Easier to eat crap Smile

Also no fruit, is that not a bad thing? I always eat fruit

You'll get conflicting advice here until you're clear whether you're doing keto-style low carb which needs to be accompanied by high fats- and therefore is not low calorie.
Or if you're doing low/ moderate carbs within low calorie, -that's a different 'diet'.
And fruit is a funny one. It is generally good for you because the sugars are not processed and the sugars are accompanied by fibre, vitamins and minerals. But if you're low carbing, then it is undeniably high sugar- but some fruits are lower than others: berries are better than tropical. You can always get your '5 a day' from veg.

Milk restricted but can have full fat yoghurt??

Look at the labels. Milk has more sugar and less fat than full fat yogurt.

FizzyPink · 22/06/2019 08:26

OP I am generally considered to be slim (size 8) but had developed a fair amount of belly fat. I’ve been low carbing for 6 weeks and have lost almost a stone and I’ve never once felt hungry.
My diet during the week is -

B - 3 egg omelette with spinach and mushrooms
L - tuna, roasted aubergine and courgette, an avocado if I’m exercising that day
D - meat and lots and lots of veg cooked in butter

I don’t eat dairy so the hardest thing for me is eating enough fat. I also only ever do weights and not cardio so don’t need as much energy as you would if you were running 10k every day but low carb has been the best thing I’ve ever done.
Interestingly it’s also about educating yourself. I was at a friends recently and she’d cooked pasta and garlic bread so I took my own meal and I was shocked to see how much they were all consuming. Don’t get me wrong 8 weeks ago I’d have done exactly the same but now it shocks me seeing what I used to eat.

FizzyPink · 22/06/2019 08:27

Also forgot to say cut out the fruit. If you want to low carb and see results your carbs should come from veg.
You might find it useful to read through some of the week 1-2 low carb boot camp threads for inspiration and education!

Sounds to me OP is trying to go low carb / low fat will not be very sustainable in the long run. Sounds like the path to an eating disorder

Havenly · 22/06/2019 09:17

It doesn't have to be sustainable in the long run. Unless you are extremely overweight, you don't need to lose 2-3lbs a week long term.

You can low cal/ low or moderate carb healthily in order to get to your target weight. Once you've achieved your target weight, then you plan something sustainable in the long run in order to stay at your maintenance weight.

user1471514421 · 22/06/2019 09:45

Thanks for all your advice. For clarity, I dont need to lose weight, I am generally a size 6. This is about getting as lean as possible.

Turnedouttoes you sound like you have fantastic results. I feel I could get your menu above, However would miss fruit

OP posts:
Ihatehashtags · 22/06/2019 22:28

More protein and fat needed. Instead of the fruit I’d go for these as snacks:
Hard boiled eggs
Celery filled with peanut butter
Biltong
Pork rind crackle
Cheese
Nuts

Also you can buy low carb bread and have one serving of that a day. It’s what I do for breakfast.

So far I’ve lost 8kg in 10 weeks. Good luck
