My hair seems to be thinning, does anyone know a way to stop this and encourage growth? It just seems to be getting worse and worse 😭

I'm having the same problem but treating it with organic coconut oil and I can just see some tiny shoots of hair growing back.

I just give it a good brush at bed time and rub in the coconut oil and pray I won't have reason to see anyone before I've showered!

Belle89 · 20/06/2019 18:13

You leave it overnight? Do you find it looks very lank and greasy after?

Do you tie your hair up wet? And is it tied up very tight? Tying hair up tightly on a regular basis(whether wet or dry but wet is worse) can cause the hairline to thin and eventually recede

nippsout · 20/06/2019 18:16

How often do you have your hair up in a tight ponytail?

Recommend taking Viviscal, I've always had thick hair (being half Indian) but I lost a lot of it due to an eating disorder. It has definitely helped me out.

TantricTwist · 20/06/2019 18:18

Stop tying your hair back

kiki22 · 20/06/2019 18:18

There are capsules you can buy from Holland and barrett my friend swears by but they make your hair everywhere grow like crazy not just your head.

Eggs and berries are good for hair growth too

nippsout · 20/06/2019 18:19

used to take biotin as well (from Holland and Barrett) which is a cheaper alternative

BogglesGoggles · 20/06/2019 18:19

Get you thyroid levels checked.

Aquamarine1029 · 20/06/2019 18:19

I would get your thyroid levels tested.

Cornettoninja · 20/06/2019 18:20

Low iron can cause hair loss. It’s also a symptom of some other things if you have any other health concerns

Iron and protein.

MaMisled · 20/06/2019 18:21

Have you recently had a baby?

Idontwanttotalk · 20/06/2019 18:23

Take either Perfectil (the ones for hair) or Selenium supplements. Also, Serioxyl helps.

Have you been tested for Thyroid problems? I developed two bald patches a couple of years ago (thankfully hidden by my top hair) and, following treatment for low thyroid and Vitamin D3 capsules for deficiency, it has now grown back.

You should see a GP to test for deficiencies rather than just treat. Try not to scrape your hair back too tightly as well.

Belle89 · 20/06/2019 18:23

Not often that i wear a pony tail, have today and can really notice it. Take an iron multivit supplement most days already. No pregnancies for 7 years.

Nothing you put on your hair will cause new hair to grow. It's worth determining what's causing your hair loss.

Mojitomogul · 20/06/2019 18:27

That is a very tight ponytail!! If its tied like that often it will really be pulling on the hair strands. Try some self massage on your scalp with some peppermint oil diluted in a base oil like jojoba or argan oil. I found some in tk Maxx. Peppermint can help stimulate the follicles for hair growth.

NabooThatsWho · 20/06/2019 18:31

Having a baby can cause hair to thin a bit/fall out.

Also, how is your diet in general?

SapphireBattersea · 20/06/2019 18:52

Definitely have some bloods done to check for deficiencies / thyroid issues etc

But also as pp have said don't tie your hair up tight! Or at least not too often.

I'm growing mine out from a pixie crop atm and I'm making DH give me regular head massages as apparently that helps. And also using peppermint oil and coconut oil as an overnight treatment (Washing it out in the morning of course!) .
I do this about 2-3 times a week

I Keep meaning to get some decent supplements as well, have heard viviscal is good.

Tiredtessy · 20/06/2019 18:52

My hair seems thinner on top at the front and another friend has similar, I try not to touch my hair or wash to much, as it’s fine and use dry shampoo which means I can avoid heat to! My hair is never tied back unless very loose maybe if I was cleaning, you could try supplements but think it’s best just to leave it alone as much as possible!

rainbowbash · 20/06/2019 18:54

check symptoms for an underactive thyroid and see if this ticks boxes.

Xmr1986 · 20/06/2019 18:58

Were you poorly at all, or anaemic about 4 months ago, op? Or particularly stressed?

Big events can trigger the hair to go in to the next growth cycle stage by accident. But it isn't always apparent for 2-6 months. And obviously takes much longer than that to rectify.

First stop is GP for bloods 👍

LookWhosInTheRejectBin · 20/06/2019 19:19

OP, I was only 21 and my hair started shedding. I had every test under the sun and in the end, got diagnosed with Androgenetic Alopecia. It's hereditary hair loss, the same reason men lose their hair, but effects women as a general thinning.

Do your parents have thin hair?

Belle89 · 20/06/2019 20:07

Family history fine, from.google I'm wondering if it's related to the pill, prostogen only one. Which will be a shame as it seems to be the only thing that has agreed with my body in other ways
