Building work, is this price worth it?

So basically Ive received a quote about some work I’m going to be getting done, before I give u the price could you give my your ideas of what u think would be reasonable. This price is labour only, all materials would be ours. Tilling in hallway, kitchen and bathroom. Laminate flooring in two rooms. Putting a board to separate two rooms. Fitting a 8unit kitchen. Ideas of prices please. Thank u

What area of the country are you in? I think prices vary a bit by region, so it might help people pin down a cost for you.

iknowimcoming · 17/06/2019 22:55

Depending on the size of your house near me that'd be roughly £8-15k I reckon

tobedtoMNandfart · 17/06/2019 22:56

Well how long is a piece of string? 🤔

SuperSara · 17/06/2019 23:04

Things like tiling are very dependent upon the size of the area to be tiled, and other variables.

So it's I mpossible to say from what you've told us, OP, as it could be anything from £1k to £5k+ if it's a large area just for tiling.

Pipandmum · 17/06/2019 23:07

About 5k.

Janleverton · 17/06/2019 23:16

About 8-12k

homeishere · 17/06/2019 23:21

Ripping out and removing old flooring/kitchen etc? Electrical work?

How far you are from dump site/materials shops etc (inevitably there’ll be something you’re not providing).

Size of area?!

Get three quotes. Get everything itemised as much as possible. Go with the one you trust the most against the best value.

Pointless to ask for a figure on here.

AwkwardPaws27 · 17/06/2019 23:25

Putting a board to separate two rooms - do you mean a stud wall? Are you having any electrics moved (eg a second light, more plug sockets?). Plastering? Add a door? The price will really vary depending on things like that. A very basic stud wall might be a days labour. A proper division into two rooms, plastered, with a door and a new light in each room could be considerably more.
It's generally advised that you should get three comparable quotes.

Sally150 · 18/06/2019 07:25

£3500

Letthemysterybe · 18/06/2019 07:28

5-10k

BikeRunSki · 18/06/2019 07:29

How much area is being tiled/laminated etc?

Dvg · 18/06/2019 07:44

I would say 5-10k

Dvg · 18/06/2019 07:45

Also yeah make sure to get more than 1 quote

boobirdblue · 18/06/2019 07:50

Somewhere between £1k and £10k an impossibly difficult thing to guess.

PeePooAndPaperOnly · 18/06/2019 07:55

It depends on the size of the rooms, the condition of them and how much prepping they have to do

GreenTulips · 18/06/2019 07:58

£2k tilling
Flooring £1000
Kitchen fitting £4,000
Boarding £2,500

£10k roughly depending on size

Unhomme · 18/06/2019 08:00

I think yabu to think this board is a guess-the-price type thing. Would checkatrade have a forum you can post this on?

CitadelsofScience · 18/06/2019 08:14

Is your hallway like the run up to along jump or the size of toddlers sandpit. Are the rooms the size of a ballroom or a tiny room in a little two bed terrace?

Until you give dimensions, no-one can guess because it's usually calculated per sqM.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 18/06/2019 08:22

Following.
We are getting this exact work done.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 18/06/2019 08:23

@GreenTulips are you guessing for materials?

The OP was asking just about labour.

Snog · 18/06/2019 08:27

6 days work? £2k?

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 18/06/2019 08:31

It's too vague two rooms of laminate could be done in a day, two large rooms with awkward books and crannies in an old house where the walls aren't straight will take longer. Same with kitchen units, straight into a five year old property, easy job, we have a curved wall in our 135 year old kitchen and the walls lean out slightly, so lots of corrections needed and fitting would take much longer. How many days labour are you being quoted for?

bumblingbovine49 · 18/06/2019 08:31

Approx 10-15k

DisplayPurposesOnly · 18/06/2019 08:31

I was always told £150 per person per day. (I've no idea how reasonable that is!)

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 18/06/2019 08:34

If your property is average size and they need to do minimal prep I'd guess somewhere in the region of £10-£12k but this also friends which part of the country you're in
