Buy Persil colour washing powder or liquid. You can wash all colours together, no need to sort

Other powders should be available, just buy the colour one

People are really making a lot more work for themselves on this thread Confused

Well, I do three small loads of 30m each because I find it more effective, especially with the laundry egg, to clean smaller amounts rather than everything in together. It is quicker than the single large load too.

BertieBotts · 17/06/2019 13:13

The only thing different about "colour" washing powder is it doesn't contain bleach.

SallyWD · 17/06/2019 13:39

It amazes me that people still separate colours! I do towels, bedding and underwear on 60 and everything else gets chucked in together and washed on 30. The only time I separate colours is if I have brand new jeans or something that are very dark. Then I'll wash them separately the first couple of times only. There's really no need to separate colours once they've been washed a couple of times!

EarlGreyOfTwinings · 17/06/2019 13:42

it's up to you. I disagree.

I wouldn't wash my bras at 60 either, and neither would I wash most of the clothes at 30. I do a load or 2 every day anyway, so in term of the amount of wash and work, it makes 0 difference if clothes are separated anyway. 🤷

I think they may also contain a cellulase, which removes surface dulling from cottons.

EatenByDinosaurs · 18/06/2019 01:25

Nope, everything goes in together even the whites. I've never had any issues with colours running, and the whites come out bright as new.

I honestly didn't think people separated stuff anymore either, I must have some kind of laundry charm as I've never once had any colours run Confused

Crapplepie · 18/06/2019 02:01

I bung everything in at 40, unless anyone is poorly. We all look, and smell, clean Grin

Butteredghost · 18/06/2019 02:06

I've never seperated anything, it all goes in together on a cold wash. And never had a problem yet.

PenelopeFlintstone · 18/06/2019 02:11

Yes, except when my DD brings out her uniform at 8pm on a Sunday evening. Then it all goes in together.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 18/06/2019 02:22

There are three white school shirts that go into a wash with a few white and ‘colour’ tees, a colour catch sheet, and some vanish. Everything else gets separated by load type - so towels/bedding/jeans/jersey and so on.

Past 8pm on Sunday all bets are off though, and any offerings get lobbed into the machine with a couple of colour catchers and a fervent hope for the best. :o

Skittlesandbeer · 18/06/2019 02:36

Colour Catchers. Saves time, money, energy & sanity!

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 18/06/2019 03:24

Yep we do.

Whites and yellows including towels
Colours
Darks
My uniforms
Bedding

PregnantOnPurpose · 18/06/2019 03:27

I do

Found out OH doesnt when I pulled what was my brand new brilliant white top out of the washing machine. Its nit a funny shade of greying blue.

Men.

Lolly25 · 18/06/2019 03:39

I separate everything.
Whites, pastels, strong colours etc...
Whites also get oxi blasted and if something unexpectedly is in with the whites and turns them off brilliant white, I will throw them, as really have a thing about dingy whites, they look dirty..
Funny thing is , I am an untidy bugger, hate housework, prefer my dressmaking and being outside, but washing is my almost OCD weakness.

Beautiful3 · 18/06/2019 03:47

Yes. Whites, lights and dark wash. Bed sheets and towels on their own.

cantfindname · 18/06/2019 04:25

I was once so traumatised by the sight of a neighbours washing line full of greying or yellowish whites that I always separate and have done for years.

Aside from that everything takes its chances.

Thesuzle · 18/06/2019 05:08

Ladies, we need to check if Colour Catchers contain plastic, as per wipes in general, I suspect they do, so no longer use them and have always separated colours/whites anyway.
And as mentioned on here before, a very hot wash for anything vaguely stretchy is doing it no favours.. the stretch dies.

dreygrey · 18/06/2019 05:14

Whites. (If we had any)
Dark
Bright
Sheets
Shirts

Are how we sort things.

EleanorReally · 18/06/2019 06:03

my sheets dont ask for a hot wash, it says 40 degrees, so i dont do any hot washes.

OP posts:
TapasForTwo · 18/06/2019 06:09

I wash sheets at 60 degrees because DD has eczema.

Cookit · 18/06/2019 06:10

Gosh this makes me feel quite the slattern Grin

No I don’t. If something is bright red for instance I’d wash it a few times with other colours (no separating darks and lights here) before it would go in a wash with a white work shirt for instance, but that’s as far as I go. The white work shirts are still very white btw.

speakout · 18/06/2019 06:15

Yes, I separate, I use different powders/liquids too.
Lots of different washes here, some hot and long, some cold, some at 40 degrees. Depends on colour and fabric type.

speakout · 18/06/2019 06:17

Also have a wash for delicates /woollen stuff. DD has a lot osf skimpy dance wear and my mother wears a lot of wool, so they need a delicate wash.

Scottishgirl85 · 18/06/2019 06:31

I wash everything together. The only thing I do separately is jeans wash and wool wash. Never had a problem!
