I blame the Russians.
Or something.

Lost5stone · 17/06/2019 09:10

We've just got back from a week in Cornwall, luckily 2 year old DD loves puddles so had a great time! But it made me realise this is why a lot of people go off to spain etc.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 17/06/2019 09:55

Last year we went to Cornwall in the second week of June. It was glorious and carried on being glorious for weeks. This year, a week later, we’re in Devon. It’s cold and damp. I don’t have enough warm clothes with me.

Never again.

EarlGreyOfTwinings · 17/06/2019 10:02

I can't help laughing at everybody who moaned and complained so much about the glorious weather last year, and are now looking stupid complaining about the rain.

Kids can't play outside at school
Laundry doesn't dry
All the playgrounds and parks are completely empty - despite people pretending that they would still go out in the rain. No they don't.
Sports day got cancelled.
The school fair will be ruined (rain is planned, but it's still really messes it up).
I have the heating on - I can afford it, but what a waste really.

I really hope it improves. Things don't grow without sun. My kids vegetable and flower garden was blooming last year, not looking so good this year.

At last we go away for the summer, but this country is so depressing in the rain.

I also feel very sorry for all the people who have been in the floods, that's awful

HappydaysArehere · 17/06/2019 10:07

Didn’t we have it a couple of weeks ago? I remember buying some more T-shirts and considering sandals.

mydogisthebest · 17/06/2019 10:16

Where I am in the Midlands we have had 16 continuous days of rain and not just showers but heavy rain. I don't think the temperature has gone above 16 any day and most days it has been much lower.

I can't get any washing dry unless I use the tumble dryer which I don't really want to as, obviously it costs, and I really should not have to in June. Most days we have had the heating on because it is cold in the mornings and evenings.

Its making me really depressed. I get that people don't like heat but then they have at least 10 months of the year to be happy in the UK so why begrudge others some sun?

Our grass is almost up to our waists and it never stops raining long enough to cut it. The hedge has gone mad. Lots of the flowers though are looking really sorry for themselves and are droopy probably where the wind has been blowing them. Oh yes and the grass is not just long but also sodden and muddy!

A friend who lives in Lincolnshire was evacuated from her home last week because the river burst it's banks and still is unable to return home.

Loads of villages fetes have been cancelled or ruined and other events which rely on money from good attendance have also been ruined.

I have just seen on the news about the crops ruined in France. Also a friend who works in wildlife rescue here as said animals are suffering badly.

I really can't believe some people think it's good

Darksideofthemoon19 · 17/06/2019 10:19

We are East Midlands too! It’s driving us insane. It was sunny and warm this morning but now clouding over again 😩

mydogisthebest · 17/06/2019 10:20

Lockheart, I don't know where you are that you have some "very hot days" this year. Where I live we certainly haven't and neither have my family in Essex.

Also crops and animals are dying this year because of the constant rain.

mydogisthebest · 17/06/2019 10:22

Darkside, yes that seems to be the pattern. Sunny at 7am fooling us into thinking it's going to be a nice day. I rush to put washing on and sometimes even get it on the line before it rains. But every day by about 9am or 10am it clouds over and then rains.

It brightens about 8pm some days but too late to get washing dry

ethelfleda · 17/06/2019 10:26

It was hotter much earlier last year, the hot weather started in May. It was about 6 weeks after it stopped snowing.

I quite like this weather and I used to be all about summer!

givemesteel · 17/06/2019 10:30

We had a lovely April which lulled us into a false sense of security thinking a lovely summer would follow.

For me last summer was too hot but we've moved into a house which is really badly designed for heatwaves but can't really afford to get a solution for it. Once we have a solution I'll be more forgiving of heatwaves.

So for now I'm happy with this slightly bleurgh weather, though less rain would be nice.

Feeling bad for anyone who's had a holiday or wedding in the last couple of weeks.

pippistrelle · 17/06/2019 10:30

For @mydogisthebest

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/06/01/uk-weather-parts-britain-set-hottest-day-year/

There have been a few hot days, but really very few.

I do find it a bit gloomy to be wearing the same sorts of clothes that I was in winter because I find it too cool to bare my legs, and sandals are out of the question.

EarlGreyOfTwinings · 17/06/2019 10:37

I think it's depressing and most people look absolutely miserable in the rain.

At least I am lucky I can take the kids to a sun holiday on the beach, I dread to think how grim the summer would be if they were stuck here in grey and rainy weather all summer.

It's bad enough now!

It's so wet, even their outdoor sports get cancelled

evespudding · 17/06/2019 10:40

It's the greyness I find depressing. Not being able to dry washing outside. Rain disrupting plans. School summer fair had to be held inside for the first time I can remember. Also love the feeling of leaving the house without coat, umbrella etc

jameswong · 17/06/2019 11:03

Weather was glorious here this weekend. Low 30s and plenty of sun. Bit showery today mind you.

I'm not in the UK though ROFL

Lockheart · 17/06/2019 11:12

@mydogisthebest the country had a record breaking Easter weekend. Not two weeks ago I got very sunburnt sitting in the garden, it was boiling. And as I sit here now it's about 18 degrees and blue skies, albeit with a breeze. If you are in Essex, you are not far from me so you certainly haven't missed out on this weather either.

We have had about one week of rain. It is far from constant, unlike the 3/4+ week extreme heatwave we had last year.

We need rain, whether we like it or not. I don't particularly enjoy rain, but I realise it's necessary. This is the UK, we are not supposed to have dry, hot summers with no breaks in the weather all. Our summers should be mild to warm and with a mix of rain and sun.

In short, the weather this year has been sometimes hot and sometimes gloomy and that's exactly what it should be, given that we are not in the Med.

Drogosnextwife · 17/06/2019 11:14

I was just thinking the same this morning. I'm over summer now, I'm going to just look forward to Christmas.
We go on holiday to Yorkshire in 2 weeks and it's not looking good. Have somewhere lovely out in the countryside booked aswell to enjoy the sunshine 🙄

Drogosnextwife · 17/06/2019 11:17

Day off today because the kids are off sick and I'm sitti g here shopping for sandals. I'm ever hopeful.

megletthesecond · 17/06/2019 11:24

We had it in February and April I think.
It's only 18° in north Hampshire today Sad. I've just had the hearing on for 20 mins to stop my joints aching.

JacquesHammer · 17/06/2019 11:26

We go on holiday to Yorkshire in 2 weeks and it's not looking good

Yorkshire always looks good! Plenty to do in wet weather, and the countryside is still wonderful for walks and totally spectacular in wet weather!

Lockheart · 17/06/2019 11:29

@megletthesecond I'm sorry to hear that but 18 degrees really isn't cold. The average June temp in Hampshire is 19-20 so it's as expected.

SoupDragon · 17/06/2019 11:30

At least the people who whinge about summer are happy - a whole year of autumn/Winter for them. Whoop.

Livpool · 17/06/2019 11:33

This year has been so depressing

We had about 3 nice days around Easter. And it has rained at some point pretty much every day here for the last month or so. It is also very cool. It does my asthma no good.

My birthday is in June, and is usually more nice than not so I don't think this is typical at all

BigRedLondonBus · 17/06/2019 11:51

All the playgrounds and parks are completely empty - despite people pretending that they would still go out in the rain.

Very true. I nipped to the shops with the kids and promised we would go to the park after, just as we left the shop it started to rain. I went into the empty park and even the cleaner emptying out the bins said in a sarky comment “you know its raining right!”

Yogurtcoveredricecake · 17/06/2019 12:06

I don't mind it being cooler or a bit gloomy but the constant rain is really starting to get annoying.
