What's the point of size 5 nappies?!

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 16/06/2019 16:17

I just bought some size 5 nappies. As I opened them I read that 5+ are exactly the same size - just more absorbent.

So I just wasted money on less absorbent nappies?!
His nappies leak at night and I could have done with more absorbent ones.

Why would they intentionally make less absorbent nappies?!

I didn’t know this. Are the 5+ more expensive?

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 16/06/2019 16:27

I'm not sure I will look hang on

Exactly the same price!

Same number in the pack?

SpanglyPop · 16/06/2019 16:32

No way! I thought the plus meant a slightly bigger size. I'm totally educated. For what it's worth asda nappies are fucking brilliant they wont let you down
I use size fives in asda and my daughter slept from 7pm til 9am last night dry as a bone!

JagerPlease · 16/06/2019 16:32

There's usually less in the + packs

bitchfromhell · 16/06/2019 16:33

Haha, I had exactly this thought last week, bought some 5+ thinking they were a bit bigger, just not a full size bigger.
Did the same with 4's though and never realised Blush

MauisHouseOnMaui · 16/06/2019 16:49

The plus sizes have a different weight range to the normal sizes and, on my DD at least, are slightly bigger around the waistband.

MauisHouseOnMaui · 16/06/2019 16:51

Size 5 Pampers are for 11kg-16kg and the 5+ are for 12kg-17kg

Astrid0208 · 16/06/2019 16:53

The tesco 4+ have a stretchy back where the 4 doesn't so the fit is better, is it the same for 5s?

EarlGreyOfTwinings · 16/06/2019 16:56

the + always means more absorbent, it's not the size.

You don't need more absorbent, and more expensive, nappies during the day, they are good for night time when the kids keep the same nappy for 12 hours.

The manufacturers are making more absorbent nappies that are more expensive that you don't need during the day. If you want to spend more, you are free to use them anytime.

ColaFreezePop · 16/06/2019 17:09

Agree with @MauisHouseOnMaui

If you find for example 4+ too small and you try a 5+ but it's too big then try a 5.

Also unlike the PP I find the plus and normal sizes the same price.

bakebakebake · 16/06/2019 17:10

I'm on my third child and only realised the other week that the + didn't mean a bigger size!

KitKat1985 · 16/06/2019 17:12

There's usually slightly less 'plus nappies' in the pack if it's the same price though.

Noonooyou · 16/06/2019 17:14

Yes the plus means more absorbent and I think they are the same price but may be less in the pack?

spanglypop genuine question - isn't the fact that your daughter was bone dry mean she didn't wee all night rather than it being a good nappy?!

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 16/06/2019 18:21

They were Aldi.

They had the same amount in the pack. They were for the exact same weight. And they cost the same.

Just more absorbent.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 16/06/2019 18:23

Nope tell a lie, there are 4 less in the 5+

OP posts:
SpanglyPop · 16/06/2019 18:33

@Noonooyou nooo her nappy was full and very heavy (she drinks a lot of water) but no leaking and no wet bum!

Noonooyou · 16/06/2019 18:53

spanglypop I get you now 😀

bitchfromhell · 16/06/2019 18:58

We use Aldi ones too. Maybe that's why we're confused Smile

TheCrowdSayBoSecta · 16/06/2019 19:26

Not the point of your post but my son leaks through and I put a folded sanitary towel in his nappy which works.

TerribleTwosPhase · 16/06/2019 19:28

I did not know this Blush
Just moved from 5 to 5+ thinking they were slightly bigger!

Amanduh · 16/06/2019 19:32

The plus is the absorbency guide. They are usually a bit stretchier as they absorb more. But yes, same size!

noleftturn · 16/06/2019 19:34

The pluses are more bulky so less comfortable I imagine. Surely that's obvious?!

pigsknickers · 16/06/2019 19:38

Well bugger me, I'm toilet training #2 and had not realised this. I've never looked at them next to each other. That'll be why the eco brands don't bother doing + sizes then.
