-flies!
Where are they? I usually get a lot in my garden but this year there wasn't a single butterfly yet, few bees only and number of bumblbees. My garden is usually heaving with all of these.
What the hell are people spraying around? I might bloody just buy some.

And aphids are EVERYBLOODYWHERE including plants they are not supposed to eat normally.
Wth😑 And just 1 frog so far. Usually I have at least 4.

Come and moan with me about the lack of bugs and other creatures.

No wasps either.

NinjaInFluffyPJs · 16/06/2019 15:47

Nope. Not a single one!

I had a wasp in the kitchen last week but up until then all I've seen are bees outside.

Myusernameisunique · 16/06/2019 15:48

We've had loads of butterflies here. Some completely different colours to the usual ones we see. We also seem to have absolutely hundreds of ladybirds. A good number of bees and bumblebees too and far too many disgusting flies! I'm central Scotland.

PickAChew · 16/06/2019 15:48

The bloody wasps are all here. I've been chasing them out of the house since Easter.

wowfudge · 16/06/2019 15:49

I'd guess it's the rain and cooler than usual temperatures for the time of year. Everything has gone beserk in our garden, but it's putting on extra growth rather than flowers opening, etc at the moment. Bloody slugs and snails are everywhere.

SolitudeAtAltitude · 16/06/2019 15:49

It's too early for wasps, numpties Grin

The queens wereand all out and about (loads of them!) In April, the offspring will come and bother us in August

June and July are usually wasp free Smile

NinjaInFluffyPJs · 16/06/2019 15:49

Send me some ladybugs😭 I swear these aphids will be the death of me.

I am NW. It's just odd. I have bee/butterfly friendly garden and until this year it was always full of them

No ladybird either but can we talk about butter too?

I have been looking for Lurpak since the other thread and can't find it, is it unsalted?

NinjaInFluffyPJs · 16/06/2019 15:51

@3luckystars can't help. I don't use Lurpak 🙈

I saw a Red Admiral yesterday

Myusernameisunique · 16/06/2019 15:55

I put (what I'm saying is) the same worker bee out of my bathroom every single day. We have a bit of a routine going on now! Found him in my toilet the other day. I helped an exhausted bumblebee the other day as well with some sugar water. I love ladybirds. We have loads everywhere the now. I killed a lot of big queen wasps in April as well. I hate wasps.

GiggleMcDimples · 16/06/2019 15:57

Bloody loads of beasty bugs here.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 16/06/2019 16:05

There are loads of caterpillars here- the roads always seem to have loads crawling across them. Perhaps the hatching/pupating cycle has been delayed by the crappy weather?

Plump82 · 16/06/2019 16:14

Ive not seen much about either however have seen a lot of tiny bumblebees. Either dead or struggling. Its so sad to see.

DuggeesWoggle · 16/06/2019 16:19

Butterflies can't really fly about with all this wind and rain. I saw one today but that was the first since seeing the yellow brimstone ones in spring.

A few days of sunshine and hopefully they'll be out - if they're still alive!

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 16/06/2019 16:27

Loads in the meadows around here. Saw few in April/may time but it's been a rather wet June so far. Have loads of bees about and ladybirds.
Last year we had angry wasps knocking about on the lawn. Glad the weather is not right for them this year. Both dc got stung while mind by their own business.

PanteneProV · 16/06/2019 16:29

Wasps will come Angry

I think butterflies are late because it’s been so cold and wet. Hopefully they’re just biding their time!

Mollypolly2610 · 16/06/2019 16:59

Lots of bees and white butterflies in Southern Scotland

NinjaInFluffyPJs · 16/06/2019 17:03

Did they all move to Scotland? 😂

ToPlanZ · 16/06/2019 18:19

Loads of bees, no butterflies. Loads and loads of aphids. But then we did have masses of harlequin ladybirds last year and I think they decimate the indigenous population that eats aphids

NinjaInFluffyPJs · 16/06/2019 18:33

But then we did have masses of harlequin ladybirds last year and I think they decimate the indigenous population that eats aphids

I was telling that to my mum last week.
Wish zoos did special big "breed out", people could sign up and then ladybirds would be released in their gardens 😁 Community breeding and release program to save the local ladybug population. Get advice how to help them, which "housing" to provide etc.

Damn. Ladybirds. I don't know why I go all American on them🙈

I've just realised that our 30 strong flock of sparrows might have something to do with lack of insect here....

OP posts:
Siameasy · 16/06/2019 19:31

Tonnes of bumbles here (south east). A lot of tired looking ones flaked out on the pavement which I have rescued. Not sure why this is.
Butterflies fewer as it’s colder. This time last year was glorious and we had lots. Still seen a fair few tho. We have a blue one most days hanging out.
Too early for wasps. There were lots last year but they were amicable. I talk to them and they are actually quite interesting to observe. When I watered my plants I noticed they would turn up and drink from where the water had settled into the leaves.

ethelfleda · 16/06/2019 19:33

I’m disappointed this thread isn’t about butter. Kerrygold is my life.
