Sorry OP but the red and cream just seems dated and just makes me think of an old house with lots of wood, low beams, doilies and pot pourri. 😆

YANBU the single piece of wood type dado rail looks awful. The more modern twist with panelling looks really nice.

Although I wouldn't on the basis that my mother calls them dildo rails.
