I have checked the forecast and it looks dire. Lots of rain, thunderstorms etc. Gutted. Can't get a refund. Has anyone been in August and of so, what was the weather like?

Hi OP I was thinking of you again today as I looked at November hols ready for this year - we always go to the Caribbean area in autumn and Europe in June - and two of the more interesting holidays we have had recently have been Mexico and Cuba (specifically Havana). Don’t get me wrong I love a St Lucian beach, but those two have been great. It’s a long way to go, so if you want to pm me I always keep notes on everything from excursions to restaurants to local people we have met!

We were in Playa del Carmen in late October 2015 ,staying in an absolutely fantastic resort for 7 days. The first day and a half were lovely and then it started raining and didn't stop for the whole time we were there.Still makes me sad to think of what we missed out on.You should be ok in August.

Amazing wink! I may just do that. Havana is definitely on my list of places to visit. Is Cuba safe to go with small children?

Hi Mummyshark

Yes Cuba is safe - like any developing country there are panhandlers but they are harmless, and some of the infrastructure is lacking (the roads are bad, you get the odd power cut, but then you can argue that about Barbados too!) but it's friendly and Havana is absolutely fascinating! It's got so much history and lots of things to do & see. Our last trip was 2017 we did the full fortnight in Havana and I could easily have stayed for longer; the ballet, opera (we were eating in a hotel one night and the entire national opera turned up and gave an impromptu performance!), museums, rum factories, fabulous nightlife, dancing!, surprisingly good food.... like schnubbins we got caught with rain for 1 of the 2 weeks but it was hot and it somehow added to the atmosphere.

I know a lot of people stay outside in Varadero & just trip in if they have kids, but you need to give it 3 days min.

Thanks wink1970, I will definitely consider this for next year!!

It’s hurricane season in August!!! Weren’t you wondering why you got a good deal?

Caribbean’s best season is Nov-Apr roughly.

Haphazardhacker · 21/06/2019 14:35

It’s right in middle of hurricane season but odds are you will be fine. Rain will mostly be intense and short lived. Never trust a forecast that far ahead to the letter ,although that area in August, rain will most likely be a feature. Just go and enjoy your holiday.

Mummyshark2019 · 22/06/2019 22:11

Will do Haphazard

It's going to be hot and humid. Wearing apac a mac will feel dreadful. I'd just take an umbrella and plan to feel humid. Lots of changes of light loose clothing, lots of showers, just rinses, will be refreshing.

AnthonyCrowley · 13/07/2019 22:21

Been here a week now. So far it's rained one afternoon for ten mins only. It's 31-32 degrees.

Fingers crossed it's still good in August.

We've been to Tulum, a lagoon outside of Tulum and xcaret. All good. Our excursion company let us down so I've hired a car which is a bit stressy but ok.

I've been 3 times in August and it's always been fine, it rained but on sm evening so did t really notice and it will still be warm

user1519475227 · 13/07/2019 22:25

Would highly recommend going to Isla murjures and doing the downtown taco tour

Booskina · 13/07/2019 23:41

Don’t worry, went there a few years ago end of August for 2 weeks; one of the best tans I got without trying. The breeze is lovely by the sea and it rained Max 1 hr a day if that. Dried up immediately.

Mummyshark2019 · 14/07/2019 00:23

Hooray Anthony Crowley! Thanks for checking in and hope you're having an awesome time!!!
