to ask what can you hear in the next 30 seconds?

My DH has lost his hearing. It's frustrating for both of us but communication is down to necessity now.

So the telly is too loud; instructions are mouthed and gestured; the loss of depth of conversation is like speaking spanglish.

I went outside for a minute. I could hear the distant arterial road; a helicopter; some drips from the saturated trees and our telly. Maybe I need to turn the telly off.

When the babies were little all I could hear was their breaths in the days they lived in.

What can you hear outside in 30 seconds from now?

tbc.

During the day, odd car, tractor or lawnmower & birds, hundreds of birds...

At night, nothing, absolutely nothing. The occasional car passing, wind etc

northerngirl2012 · 15/06/2019 00:07

Must be frustrating for you, and him. Does he wear hearing aids?

HJWT · 15/06/2019 00:10

Not outside but in bed I can hear the fan, my belly rumbling and my annoying 2.5 year old that won't go to sleep!!

We really don't appreciate the little things (that are huge things) enough do we...

SamBeckett · 15/06/2019 00:11

Some inconsiderate prat screeching around in a car like he is at branshatch , other than that just the rumble of traffic from the near by M-way, its surprising quiet round here tonight

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 15/06/2019 00:13

Im in bed. I can hear the cat licking his nethers in the landing. Hmm myself breathing and my hands rubbing against the duvet as I type. The cat is the loudest.

PickAChew · 15/06/2019 00:13

Bus passing. Got BBC 4 on fairly loud, though.

I have mild hearing loss but it's at the level where I struggle with speech, rather than ambient sounds.

chocolatebuttonsandcheese · 15/06/2019 00:15

Toilet refilling, DC breathing, my fingers talppng this

I’m in bed, DH is snoring.... outside a train just went by.

NeitherNowtNorSummat01 · 15/06/2019 00:16

Well, I’m lying in the induction ward at the hospital.
The lady opposite is clearly in labour and panting heavily. The woman next to me is on a very loud phone conversation!
I’m lying here with no signs of labour whatsoever

BlackeyedGruesome · 15/06/2019 00:17

bbc Radio 4 tribute to grefell tower.

clock ticking

Heratnumber7 · 15/06/2019 00:18

The M4, the bathroom fan, and DH knocking about in the kitchen downstairs.

BrokenWing · 15/06/2019 00:18

In bed and I can hear a loud roaring along with a high pitched whistle.

Tinnitus is a bitch.

user1471453601 · 15/06/2019 00:19

Sod all. But I've also lost a lot of hearing and I've taken my hearing aids out.

Deafness is very socially isolating, don't underestimate how much that can affect the one with hearing loss.

The people I really appreciate are those that 'get it". They make sure they face me when they are speaking, never put their hand over their mouth, take care to stop speaking of their is some loud background noise (even a nearby boiling kettle can drown out voices for me).

The ones that piss me off are those that, for example, continue to speak to me once they've turned their backs to me (yes, doctor,I'm talking about you) and those that think my deafness is so funny it's a chance to make jokes. I wonder if they would do that if I'd lost my sight instead of my hearing.

edsheeranpaidmoretaxthanccola · 15/06/2019 00:19

Tinnitus, DH loudly complaining about how low the pound is and a fan.

MaidenMotherCrone · 15/06/2019 00:19

I'm not venturing outside but inside I can hear a clock ticking, slow, steady breathing of two elderly dogs (reassuring to hear trust me) gentle creaking of the house.

RedTitsMcGinty · 15/06/2019 00:20

I’m in bed. I can hear the waves hitting the old jetty outside. There are very faint sirens from the main road.

RainbowMum11 · 15/06/2019 00:20

The rain on the trees, a bit of wind just to jazz it up a bit.
A car in the distance .

SallyOMalley · 15/06/2019 00:23

The him of traffic on the ring road a mile or so away.
A slow dripping from the leaking guttering above the window.
Tinnitus in my left ear that sounds high pitched Morse code.
Oh and it sounds like something has just disturbed the chickens two doors down.

Tillygetsit · 15/06/2019 00:27

My dh found a wounded watchdog impression, my baby shuffling an 2 dogs snoring less loudly than dh. I live in a zoo!

Tillygetsit · 15/06/2019 00:28

Snuffling obvs 🙄

Chocolate35 · 15/06/2019 00:30

Sirens (I live next to a police station) and traffic. Oh and some rubbish my husband is watching 😂

tararabumdeay · 15/06/2019 00:33

When it was all quiet round here a blimin noisy bug decided to wake up and crash about in the lampshade so that's buzz and splat to add to the perfect peace. It sounded like a splat but it may just be stunned.

gettofuckthrees · 15/06/2019 00:37

My breathing, the clock on the landing, the faint whirr of our dodgy central heating/hot water system, chink of a wine bottle on wine glass (refilling)! Cat snoring very very faintly.

EstuaryBird · 15/06/2019 00:37

Duff McKagan’s new song Tenderness on YouTube on the TV (Friday night is my music night). DP is in bed but he’s playing jazz (too loudly) on his phone so I can hear that in the background.
