My DH has lost his hearing. It's frustrating for both of us but communication is down to necessity now.

So the telly is too loud; instructions are mouthed and gestured; the loss of depth of conversation is like speaking spanglish.

I went outside for a minute. I could hear the distant arterial road; a helicopter; some drips from the saturated trees and our telly. Maybe I need to turn the telly off.

When the babies were little all I could hear was their breaths in the days they lived in.

What can you hear outside in 30 seconds from now?

tbc.

Lying in bed...on holiday.

Sea gulls over the harbour.
Small birds in the garden.

No traffic noise, no city noise, no neighbour noise, no electrical hum.
My hearing is having a rest.

Pearlfish · 15/06/2019 07:37

Birds tweeting. White noise hum of the fridge. We're out in the sticks, so I can't hear any traffic and the kids are being quiet at the moment.

Autumnchill · 15/06/2019 07:38

Husbands light snoring, cat meowing at the birds and pigeons cooing on the roof

Ragwort · 15/06/2019 07:40

Just the boiler clicking (we’ve put the heating back on Blush). This is a lovely thread to remind us to be still and just listen occasionally. I love mornings, I usually get up early and really enjoy a peaceful start to the day, like to wander around the garden first thing to feel the fresh air even if it’s a bit damp and cold. We live on the edge of a town but it is surprisingly quiet. Although next weekend we are in London and I also enjoy an early start in the busy city, so much to observe and listen to.

I too have problems hearing .Subtitles very good esp BBC!.Does he wear hearing aids at all?.Free from NHS with a kind of "on loan " servicing free as well. Also Boots and Specsavers have interest free credit for the more expensive types.Tips from Audiologist:Always try to sit with back to a solid concrete wall this will help clarify speech .In answer to your question ,cant hear very much at night ,quiet here anyway!.

The washer going, Mr Tumble, and my toddler chomping his toast.

origamiunicorn · 15/06/2019 07:56

I'm lying in bed and can hear a wood pigeon and some other bird noises. In between utter silence.

meow1989 · 15/06/2019 07:58

I'm in ds room settling him for a nap.

I can hear:
his breathing
occasional suck of the dummy
rustling as he wriggles to get comfy
the occasional whine or babble
My breathing
My humming of his song
The rocking chair creaking a bit
A clock ticking

Outside:
Distant traffic

Knitwit99 · 15/06/2019 08:03

Seagulls! They are so loud, they drown out all the nice sounds. But they're usually only this loud for a while in the morning then they calm down a bit.

Fucktuates · 15/06/2019 08:06

Birds and cars on the road outside of my street.

Oh and now my cats paws thumping on the floor downstairs.

Giggorata · 15/06/2019 08:07

My little colony of sparrows and a distant car.

Apolloanddaphne · 15/06/2019 08:09

I just listened carefully for around a minute.

I heard a variety of birds singing and the faint low rumble of the fridge/freezer. That was all.

Weirdly the dog sat very still and stared at me the entire time i was listening then when i went to type my response she padded off to her bed. It was like she knew to be silent!

transformandriseup · 15/06/2019 08:11

My baby grunting in her sleep next to me. She’s quite loud Grin

WhataLovelyPear · 15/06/2019 08:11

My tummy rumbling, DH breathing, DS fidgeting in his chair and an unidentifiable distant hum.

WhataLovelyPear · 15/06/2019 08:13

transform that's gorgeous Smile

BlueMerchant · 15/06/2019 08:16

Having breakfast in bed. I can hear birds singing and the distant hum of a lawn mower.

Shosha1 · 15/06/2019 08:19

Total silence, then a little voice calling
‘Grandma’.

That’s my peaceful coffee gone then 😁

This was at 6.30, now we have DGD and Grandad playing RARa and chasing around the kitchen. Dog going with them

My DH has lost his hearing. It's frustrating for both of us but communication is down to necessity now.

I'm more interested in this, as a teacher of the deaf. How much hearing has he lost? Has he been offered aids?

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 15/06/2019 08:26

Ringing ears and the kids arguing about FIIFA

Curlyshabtree · 15/06/2019 08:37

Gentle hum of traffic, 6 Music, kids chatting, husband snoring!

Beautiful3 · 15/06/2019 08:39

Birds singing in the garden. My eldest girl upstairs face timing her best friend. My little girl shouting, "yes" to winning the sausage game on her ipad! The leather settee squeaking because the little one keeps moving around!

EggplantVestibule · 15/06/2019 08:50

I can hear my tinnitus, my children playing. Someone is whistling outside as they garden, I can hear the gentle clink of their trowel. In the distance I can hear the main road very slightly.

RiftGibbon · 15/06/2019 08:56

Laying in bed at the moment (headache) but I can hear TV on downstairs, traffic passing from several directions (we sit on an estate bordered by roads) - I can clearly hear a motorbike accelerating. Also can hear various different birds and neighbours talking in their garden & next doors' child having a tantrum. A plane has just gone over and someone is operating machinery (poss cutting stone or metal).

MidsomerBurgers · 15/06/2019 09:05

My breathing, next doors front door shutting and lots and lots of very loud birds.

Morgan12 · 15/06/2019 09:22

Birds. Lots of bloody birds. Sorry but its very annoying. Especially at 4am. But I'll never cut the trees down so just need to deal.
