An albino slug? Who knew?!

But hold on a minute, the albino one will be easier to spot in the dark won't it? Let them live, he,'ll point ya to his pals

Haggisfish · 14/06/2019 21:48

They are coooooolllll!!!

ThomasRichard · 14/06/2019 21:51

Follow time-honoured tradition and surreptitiously throw them over your fence so they can be your neighbour’s problem?

Ijumpedtheshark · 14/06/2019 21:52

I quite like it.

CannonCaboodle · 14/06/2019 21:53

vomits

Toomuchstuffwillkillme · 14/06/2019 21:54

I have dozens and dozens of the bastard slugs (not dozens of albino ones!!!) - if I throw them anywhere they will march straight back.
And they are cool, in a really really slimy and revolting way. I absolutely loathe killing slugs... but I love my garden and the evil **s eat literally EVERYTHING in their path. I swear if you could find a genuinely efficient and humane way of killing giant slugs you could make a fortune.

Are you in South Wales?

There's a new species identified in the last few years - the English name is Ghost Slug - it's worth reporting as they're tracking its progress.

MitziK · 14/06/2019 21:56

If it is the Ghost Slug, it doesn't touch your plants, as it eats earthworms. Like Leopard Slugs predate other slugs rather than the veggie patch.

carly2803 · 14/06/2019 21:56

my dog used to eat slugs, once realised got her treated for lung worm.

not sure how she isnt dead!

but yuk

Toomuchstuffwillkillme · 14/06/2019 22:02

Not a ghost slug. I Googled. (Thank goodness it's not: "The ghost slug is carnivorous and nocturnal, sucking earthworms into its body with blade-like teeth")
Mine has black tentacles, you see Wink
Should I be grateful?

I dislike slugs but am quite enamoured of the white one

Notashandyta · 14/06/2019 22:07

Bowl of beer overnight. Happy death for the evil nasties, clean conscience for you.

I HATE slugs.

Vomits also

AlexaAmbidextra · 14/06/2019 22:08

I’m not squeamish but slugs are one of the very few things in this life that I just can’t bear. They are repulsive.

ScrambledSmegs · 14/06/2019 22:14

I accidentally trod on one in bare feet once. Simultaneous guilt and revulsion.

It wasn’t as big as those fuckers, thank goodness.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 14/06/2019 22:15

I throw mine over the stream to the other side. Let's see you swim back from there you little fuckers!

Singleandproud · 14/06/2019 22:16

I put them in the compost bin, they seem quite happy in there and leave other plants alone as well as doing there bit in breaking down the compost

Jellyfishsmack · 14/06/2019 22:17

I designed a massive wildlife pond in my garden. 4 years later I have eleventy billion toads... and I'd have to walk 70 m away before I would find a slug!!

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 14/06/2019 22:17

My hair is prickling in horror

Forgotmycoat · 14/06/2019 22:21

Oh god oh god why did I click on this thread. Oh my eyes.

I can feel them crawling all over me

*Vomits and screams scratching self till raw

Defenbaker · 14/06/2019 22:23

Yikes! Revolting things.

I pick them up (with gloves on) and fling them into the wooded undergrowth at the back of oir garden. It's shady and green, they're welcome to that area.

I also use slug pellets, sparingly, around certain plants. Not ideal but our garden is partially shaded for half the day, so I'd not have any plants left if I didn't use them. From what I understand, as long as you don't use them in high concentration the birds are OK.

I once tried another method of control. I read that it's kinder to kill them quickly by cutting them in half. I tried it... sharp knife... braced myself... but then the slug bled copious amounts of bright red blood and I felt like a total monster. I never realised they actually contained blood. Now it seems worse, to kill them, knowing that they actually bleed. So I am cowardly and use the slug pellets after a spell of rain.

FunnysInLaJardin · 14/06/2019 22:25

slugs are fine as long as they are not eating my plants. Mind you these days my chickens eat most of them.

If they are not eating your plants, what's the problem?

ilovebeaversandicecream · 14/06/2019 22:25

lmao. You clickbaited us by the title u sneaky little muther....

Toomuchstuffwillkillme · 14/06/2019 22:25

Apologies, the photo should maybe have come with a trigger warning! Not for those of squeamish disposition! Scarily we find even bigger ones sometimes, easily as long as my hand. I can't believe there are toads big enough to eat them. Think they may be the Spanish sort which apparently everything finds practically inedible.

I use nemaslug, because I don't want to poison anything else with pellets.
Use nemaslug, meanwhile pick up all the ones you can find. I managed to make them keep away from the garden in the end. I guess they felt that there is a deadly parasite waiting for them in bigger numbers than usually? God knows. It worked.
