I'm sat with my poor nan. She is dying from cancer.

Her breathing is getting more shallow and she isn't eating/drinking/sleeping 😢

We don't know how long she has left but we doubt she will make it through the night.

Handhold needed please Thanks

Flowers and a handhold.

Flowers

Thinking about you. It doesn’t get much tougher than this but you will take comfort in future times knowing you were there. X

RosamundButterfly · 14/06/2019 00:26

A handhold from me too. Keep talking to her, she'll be able to hear you. Sending strength Flowers

alfie22 · 14/06/2019 00:29

How can I deal with this? She is a shadow of the woman I once knew. She has deteriorated so quickly

Sending love. Keep talking to her anything and everything. It's a wonderful thing you're doing for her Flowers

chockaholic72 · 14/06/2019 00:34

Stay with her. I was with both my parents - it's a very profound moment. It will change the way you look at life, and what you realise is important, and what's just "stuff". It's a privilege to be with her at this time. Just hold her hand and tell her you love her. It's nothing to be frightened of and you don't need to be brave. Just be close to her.

NitrousOxide · 14/06/2019 00:36

I’m so sorry OP. Flowers for you. It’s absolutely understandable to want to stay and to leave.

Rachie1973 · 14/06/2019 00:40

Keep talking. She’ll hear you. I’ve been where you are now, and I lost a dear friend last Monday too. If you need to say ‘love you nan, see you soon’ and leave thats ok too xxxx

Decormad38 · 14/06/2019 00:40

I would stay. It’s precious time that you can never get back. Thoughts are with you op Flowers

alfie22 · 14/06/2019 00:43

I am going to stay for now. This is so hard.

Even if she doesn't pass tonight it will be soon. Life is cruel.

I held my grans hand as she passed away, we put her fave music on and talked about all our memories of her as we grew up, it was actually a peaceful way to go with everyone round her. She was 92 and had dementia so for us it was probably a relief that she was at peace and not scared or confused anymore and she had had a long life..
Hope she is peaceful and not in pain xx

Oldstyle · 14/06/2019 00:45

Do hope you are able to stay. As others have said, it's a profound moment and your loving presence is a gift. Hold her hand, stroke her hair, talk to her. Hugs from me. x

alfie22 · 14/06/2019 00:54

Thanks everyone Thanks much appreciated.

It's good to get my feelings out on here

I'm so so sorry OP.

I lost my Gran a year ago of cancer, it happened so quickly and I was unable to get back into the country in time. Make the most of it, I know it's hard but it's the one thing I regret more than anything - not being able to see her.

Life is so so cruel and I swear this happens to the people who least deserve it.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 14/06/2019 00:56

Sending hand to hold and strong shoulder to lean on.

I've been there and it is the hardest thing in the world, but the greatest honor. It changes you, in a good way. You are in the hardest bit now ❤️

loutyre · 14/06/2019 01:05

This has made me tear up. Please stay with her. I wouldn't want to be alone. That's my biggest fear in life, spending my last hours alone. Sending huge hugs. I will be thinking about you. Xxxxxx

CannonCaboodle · 14/06/2019 01:08

My thoughts are with you. Stay strong. Xxx Flowers

ofred · 14/06/2019 01:10

ThanksThanks
Stay with her... it's actually a lovely experience. I was with my granda when he died, as we all were.
When he was taking his last breaths there was a tear ran down his cheek. We like to think it was happiness as he was going to meet my granny again.
Seeing this made me stop fearing my own death.
She will be going to a better place and she will be out of pain.
Also whisper to her... we were told that the hearing is the last thing to go.
Let her know you're with her xx

alfie22 · 14/06/2019 01:13

Nans breathing is getting more shallow by the minute 😢

Flowers and hand hold from me. I’m glad you’ve decided to stay, I’ve been with all my grandparents in their last moments and don’t regret it for a second. Hearing is meant to be the last sense to go so talk to her if you can let her know your there with her she may still be able to hear you.
