I was complained by two ladies in swimming pool

I am a regular swimmer. Got complained by two ladies who swim slowly and chatting side by side. The pool was busy and I had to occasionally swim between them. They asked the staff to talk to me saying they were there before me and I should move over in stead swim in between them. It was only a 20 meter public swim but they two occupied about two lane and swim very slowly. Be frank, I hate people swim and chat. When I swim freestyle I try to look but there might be one or two seconds that I was close to them but they have their heads up, insist swim side by side. I ask the staff, should he talk to them not blocking the whole two lanes? Annoyed! I probably need to get up at six to do the lane swim instead.

Someone once complained about me because I "got their hair wet". Ffs, you're SWIMMING!

I now swim at my university pool which is amazing - lane swimming all the time, decent swimmers in the fast lane, good lane etiquette. Love it.

If it wasn't lane swimming then YWBU.

Swimming full pelt between 2 chatting ladies sounds very rude as annoying as they might be. The session was not lane swimming so you have to use your common sense and have some manners and consideration for others. It’s not all about you. When the pool is too full to swim the way you like to you either have to change your style of swimming and swim round them and if you can’t swim fast without harassing people don’t swim fast. If you can’t handle dealing with the public who have other needs from their swimming sessions it’s best to go at another time. After 9 there are always leisurely swimmers who go at this time for the very reason that the speed junky intolerant swimmers have largely gone. Usually before work between 6-8.30am or after work 6-8pm. That’s when you should go, during lane swimming sessions, which you may find at other times of the day. Definitely not during open pool or family swim sessions.

Having read this whole thread, it seems obvious that to sort this out we all need to talk to the places where we swim and ask them to make the rules/etiquette really clear to everyone and actually enforce the bloody rules. Maybe? Grin

I thought I was the only one who got 'swim rage' but from this thread it seems not. I also know of someone else who no longer swims weekly after an argument with another swimmer.
I agree with the poster above who says the staff at the pool need to uphold the rules for the lane swim, fast, medium, slow, so many go In the wrong lane and either hold everyone up or swim over them.

A guy at our pool is slower than me but will not wait at the end of the lane to let me pass! It'd take a second but no, he just holds me up. Another guy raced me then proceeded to nearly drown as he was clearly going too fast.

Swimming is supposed to be pleasurable! Grin

I’m with you! 2 ladies used to do just that, but more chatting at the side of the pool, and they complained that I was splashing them, that I was a ‘messy’ swimmer! WTF!!!!

ShowMeTheKittens · 15/06/2019 12:10

Oh no . You are one of those who whizz up and down the pool smashing the water.
You were told off. Live with it. Get over it and next time be considerate.

Flutra · 15/06/2019 12:13

Stop being a knob, bluerussian. You sound like a bit of a bully.

SnuggyBuggy · 15/06/2019 12:17

Is it really a crime to want to socialize in a swimming pool. They have different sessions for a reason. Stick to what suits you.

jwpetal · 15/06/2019 15:17

etiquette is that swimmers swim single file counter clockwise. pass in the middle and go back to single file. They are being inconsiderate. Maybe worth speaking to them or as you have done, to the staff. You can see where you are going but it is rude for two swimmers to block the lane.

Gosh, yes. The nerve of it. Imagine the audacity of using a swimming pool to ... swim! Hmm

AnAC12UCOinanOCG · 15/06/2019 18:26

MarieIVanArkleStinks try reading the post again and see if you can understand it properly. Go on, I bet you can do it!

Rache49 · 15/06/2019 19:47

Seems you would be better with a Gym that has a pool for serious swimmers or have your own pool as you don't like sharing with the general public. .I go for Early Birds and it's nice, people just swimming, no chit chat !!

Yes she does.. Just being sarcastic. Lady is clearly struggling with grammer. Wow theres some hortible people in this world x

Jeeperscreepers69 · 17/06/2019 06:25

Unless its lane swimming i dont think swimming between people is a good plan. Its a bit rude. These ladies are entitled to swim there way x

lachenalia · 18/06/2019 13:19

At my local DW pool which is quite small lots of ladies just stand and natter , no swimming involved at all . I am not exactly a fast swimmer but this really hacks me off as they take up loads of the pool for their chat - go to the bloody cafe and chat there !

Can I ask was the man with no hair Jewish then? With a PHD after your handle would have thought you knew this.

Or are you?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 22/06/2019 13:59

She wasn’t making comments about the male swimmer - it was nasty anti Semitic comments she made to me in the changing rooms later about a famous actress (who is Jewish apparently).

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 22/06/2019 13:59

Or am I what? What are you trying to say?

Westju · 12/05/2025 17:57

I completely sympathise. Slow chatting swimmers are annoying enough. Just today I encountered a trio of chatters standing blocking the end of the middle lane. I was doing backstroke and had to veer across the pool to avoid bumping into them. The next thing is me being reprimanded by jobsworthy lifeguard (presumably he'd just woken up) for swimming down the middle of the lane - which I wasn't. The chatters didn't move and then another woman started ploughing up and down the middle so I asked the lifeguard if he was going to tell her off too? Instead he told me I was 'disrespecting' him and he could check me out. I pointed out that I'm a paying member (it's a public pool though) and go there to swim not socialise. I won't go on but my swim stopped being enjoyable at that point and I stayed in just to make a point. The chatters were allowed to carry on wittering, not swimming. And then a couple of old guys did the same thing in another lane! So my message to everyone is: Go to a swimming pool to SWIM, if you want to chat, get out and go to the park or a cafe.
