To think this is not acceptable conduct on public transport?

Yesterday I was on the tube on my way to work, reading my kindle and minding my own business, when I noticed a cloud of white dust particles settling on my black coat and trousers.

Looking up, I realised the origin of this dust cloud was a woman standing over me in the crowded carriage and vigourously filing her nails.

When I looked aghast and brushed myself down, she turned away from me but continued regardless.

AIBU to think no nail care situation is this urgent? I've no issue with people doing their make up when seated etc, but I do have some reservations about being covered in their bodily detritus!

I think you’re lucky if this is the worst thing that ever happens to you on public transport.

Although last night on the tube I went out with no tights on, knocked the scab off a shaving cut on my leg and a fellow passenger had to point out that I was standing in a pool of blood and very kindly gave me some tissues. I honestly had no idea! So at least she didn’t bleed all over you...

Amibeingnaive · 13/06/2019 14:15

No, breaking my wrist when the train stopper abruptly probably was, but that wasn't the question.

In your situation, unless you were actually shaving your legs on the train, I could sympathise.

stopped, of course.

Yesterday I was directly behind a man who had a rummage in his ear...then proceeded to feast on whatever he had found in there. He must've struck gold as he did this a few more times. It knocked me sick!
People. Are. Grim.

Amibeingnaive · 13/06/2019 14:18

@Sagradafamiliar that has actually made me feel quite sick! Grim indeed.

I probably would have done the same as you OP. Not sure I’d have bothered to start a thread about it though 🤷‍♀️

Amibeingnaive · 13/06/2019 14:21

It would be a quiet forum if people only started a thread about issues of global significance.

No YANBU but it doesn't surprise me!
I'm really lucky that I rarely have to use public transport but I was walking down the street the other day when a man in front of me stuck his hand down the back of his trousers and had a good scratch. Seconds later his hand was on his face 🤢

sheshootssheimplores · 13/06/2019 14:33

I’m just saying it wouldn’t have irritated me enough to have wanted to discuss it. But I would have moved away if her filings were going over my clothes.

Amibeingnaive · 13/06/2019 14:45

I had a seat and I've got a foot injury at the moment. Not super serious (dislocated my big toe) but still sore enough that standing on it wouldn't have been a joy.

Also, I'm not of the view that I should have to spend my commute dodging human byproducts.

I don't like any personal grooming in public including putting on make up. Lipstick I can just about handle but being near any one doing their make up gives me the heeby jeebies. I realise I may be in the minority though.

Whydoesitalwaysdothis · 13/06/2019 14:50

I actually think people putting their makeup on on the train is gross. Why can’t people put their makeup on at home for God’s sake?
I used to get a train in the morning once a week and the carriages were full of women putting their whole face on in front of passengers.

RosaWaiting · 13/06/2019 14:54

yes it's gross

I've told a woman to stop clipping her nails as well.

generally public transport is full of people being gross. I can't wait to retire hopefully never use it again!!

tomcatspray · 13/06/2019 14:55

@Sagradafamiliar Ew! Hope you don't meet up with him on the train again!

Amibeingnaive · 13/06/2019 14:56

I quite like watching women do their make up - it can be quite a transformation. Though not if it involves lots of loose powder flying around.

OP posts:
Amibeingnaive · 13/06/2019 14:57

See, why do we need to tell people not to clip their nails in public? Why is this not just a basic standard?

IsabellaLinton · 13/06/2019 14:57

I once saw a man on the Circle Line with a towel tucked into his shirt, shaving. Nice and leisurely. Applied copious aftershave, towel and razor into his briefcase and off he went Confused

CassianAndor · 13/06/2019 14:58

gross. Did you say anything?

I've twice spoken to women painting their nails on public transport. Such a fucking antisocial thing to do, the reek! I'm old enough and ugly enough not to give a shit anymore if I'm hurting some poor soul's feelz.

Amibeingnaive · 13/06/2019 14:58

@IsabellaLinton that is a lot of faith in the driver!

NoOtherUsernameWasValid hope he didn't shake hands with anyone...

RosaWaiting · 13/06/2019 14:59

"Why is this not just a basic standard?"

I don't know.

the shaving guy - where did he put the hair?!

crazyasafox · 13/06/2019 14:59

I have seen worse on public transport, but it is a BIT yuk!

Amibeingnaive · 13/06/2019 15:00

@CassianAndor I didn't, and I'm annoyed I didn't. I was a bit shocked tbh. She obviously realised I wasn't impressed and turned away, but it didn't stop her.

OP posts:
CassianAndor · 13/06/2019 15:02

It can be hard but once you've done it there's no turning back!

'Excuse me, could you not file your nails all over my clothing please? Thanks.'
Nice clear voice, full on eye contact.

TheJoxter · 13/06/2019 15:03

Not on a train but my ex once came into my house (picking DS up and he wasn’t quite ready), sat down in the kitchen, took his shoes and socks off and started cutting his toenails! While DS was finishing his lunch right next to him! He’s not allowed in the house any more..
