to ask for my Hunter Wellies replaced?

farmer neighbour's dog has been "after" my bitch in season. I don't let out her alone when she's this way. Twice the neighbour's dog has come baying at our door. The first night he ate the leather saddle off our rocking horse at the front door, but last night because it was so late, and wet, I let him in, gave him a bath and dried him, put him back outside. This morning, he had eaten a big chunk of both my wellies which were outside. His owner says he's been known to do that and offered to pay- but is not known to pay and even on Ebay they are expensive wellies, 45~+ ..AIBU for asking for replacements? TYou.

This is bonkers

IceCreamSoda99 · 12/06/2019 19:16

In the 'burbs'if you leave your wellies outside they are liable to get chewed by the foxes. Can you explain where the rocking horse was? I'm just being nosy!

swissmilk · 12/06/2019 19:17

Can you bath my dog for me?

islanderin · 12/06/2019 19:18

@cooksomeeggs?
no-one has said YABU or NYANBU i guess i can ask i needed some fem perspective & that's why I asked. TYou.

Did you hit the wine early?

cooksomeeggs · 12/06/2019 19:20

Ok then, I'll bite. YABU to bathe someone else's dog and then write a rediculous post about it.

Tink2007 · 12/06/2019 19:25

Am I the only one who is confused?

islanderin · 12/06/2019 19:25

i love this question because I realise our covered porch isn't our rented land. rocking horse and wellies were on the porch, and landlord and dog owner business partners. It'll be goodwill if anything. Thank you @IceCreamSoda99 hey- @swissmilk anytime what sort is it? xo

Winegumaddict · 12/06/2019 19:28

Sorry I think it's your fault if your wellies were outside and you know the dog roams and has form for chewing. I'm in farming country so do t always bring my boots in but it's my risk. Also bathing your neighbours dog is batshit. We often return each others dogs but don't wash them!

islanderin · 12/06/2019 19:28

@cooksomeeggs please feel free to drop by I'll look after your dog and give you a spelling lesson- It's spelled, R I D I C U L O U S.

To be fair, carry on with the attitude you clearly have and I'll be chewing you're wellies for you. I'll decline the bath tho, cos that's fucking odd

DinosaursWouldEatYou · 12/06/2019 19:30

I think it's kinda sweet you bathed the dog and if he's with you in the bathroom he's not chasing after your dog. Simples.

Did you say he's offered to replace? If so I would the him up on that offer or at least go halves. Just no idea how you'd broach the subject again.

islanderin · 12/06/2019 19:31

by the way I'm really grateful- honestly- for this helpful advice, and it's been a dilemma I am still annoyed with. When someone or something they own hurts your property-- where does the dilemma lie, especially on looses borders?? :( TYou.

OP posts:
islanderin · 12/06/2019 19:32

@DinosaursWouldEatYou you've grasped it completely.

ReapersHowler · 12/06/2019 19:32

YABU spay your dog. It could save her life and you can only be responsible for your own dog.

NoParticularPattern · 12/06/2019 19:32

Are you ok? Because you really don’t sound like you’re at all well. YABU. Why would you take the dog in for a kick off? I mean I dislike listening to dogs howl as much as the next person, but I wouldn’t bring the animal in and give it a bath to shut it up. And secondly why on earth did you allow the dog to have access to any of your stuff? It’s hardly rocket science to realise that a dog may potentially chew or otherwise destroy things. Ours are well behaved and have never chewed a thing in their life post puppy teething stage. Would I leave them with free access to anything I was particularly attached to? Absolutely not! They’re animals. Who knows when they might get bored or simply take it upon themselves to trash something.

This is a problem entirely of your own making. Stop taking other peoples dogs in.

islanderin · 12/06/2019 19:35

sweetheart it was p**sing with rain last night as you'd know!

OP posts:
geekone · 12/06/2019 19:36

@islanderin this made me laugh.

YABU sorry, if it ate the wellies first then YWNBU however he ate something the night before so unfortunately you took the risk.

As for the stuff that made me laugh, I don’t think people appreciate farmers dogs and farm land on this post. Farmers dogs are always breaking out on the hunt for some doggy fun when they smell a bitch. They are completely different from suburban dogs.
Also I think taking him in and washing him is also something that would happen where I am from too 😆.
Good luck op but I think you need to cut your loss with the wellies.

cooksomeeggs · 12/06/2019 19:36

...but I don't have a dog.

GPatz · 12/06/2019 19:37

I doubt very much that the dog chewing the wellies was in retaliation for a bath, so I don't see how the problem in entirely of OP's own making. Dog probably would have chewed the wellies anyway. And if you live on a rural farm, I'd expect to see wellies outdoors.

YANBU OP.

CitadelsofScience · 12/06/2019 19:37

I'd be bloody furious if you bathed my dog, why would you do that you weirdo.

Other than that, why would you buy Hunter wellies, they are shit, I thought everyone knew that since they are made abroad. Get yourself to Decathlon, they do excellent wellies for not a lot of £'s.

And if you leave wellies outside that you know the bonkers farm dog will chew, get a wall mounted welly rack.

islanderin · 12/06/2019 19:38

My beautiful girl dog is inside my house. must I be responsible for every randy male dog on the planet? @ReapersHowler ?

OP posts:
Maitairiki · 12/06/2019 19:38

Spay your bitch - your dog your responsibility. Whether he castrates his dog or not is a non issue. I’d push for going halves on the boots. YANU to ask for that.

itsbetterwithoutyou · 12/06/2019 19:38

I think last night is not the only thing pissed! Wink

LIVIA999 · 12/06/2019 19:41

Yabu unreasonable. We have a farm. If anyone comes into house and takes muddy boots or shoes off at door then the dog runs off with them. He has a huge pile of shoes, stones, rubbish from bins etc and can't resist adding to the collection.
We've never had anyone ask for us to replace them.
