To think curtsying to the royal family is daft?

I really understand why this practice still exists - especially seeing eg Theresa May sinking to the floor to William, a man half her age! I personally wouldn't dream of it, even if I met the Queen herself!

What power do they have? They aren’t even allowed to vote.

All the Royals, including the Queen, have the right to vote though, by convention, those in the line of succession choose not to do so.

I met Charles and Camilla quite recently at a work thing and we were told not to curtsey. Maybe it depends on the sort of event.

I think May curtsying to William was very distasteful. Partly because she is a crap curtesy-er. What with her not going to private school an’ all......Grin

You were never 'on the hook' Laurie,
nobody is expected to bow to the Royal family .
They chose to.

BossAssBitch · 13/06/2019 17:37

Besides without the Royal family we would all be paying more tax, as they bring much more wealth in to the UK than they receive

Utter bollocks

ForalltheSaints · 13/06/2019 17:43

No I don't and if I ever meet the Queen, I would bow. I hope that the next Prime Minister's wife (or if Mr Johnson, the woman who is with him until dumped for someone 10 years younger in a few years) would curtsey, and the Prime Minister bow.

SrSteveOskowski · 13/06/2019 17:49

I wouldn't curtsy to anyone. Not in a million years. It's the most outdated archaic practice ever.
I remember seeing a picture of Sophie Wessex bowing down before the Queen and thinking "It would be a cold day in hell before I ever bowed down before my MIL"

Not my royal family anyway. I'm Irish so they mean nothing to me.

@jemihap yes! I saw her, bobbing up and down and had a ridiculous look on her face!
