That says it supplies towels, what would you expect ,size and how many?

RB68 · 12/06/2019 10:02

Sorry in terms of sizing I would expect Bath sheet for adult, bath towel for kids and average hand towels for all. I would not expect flannels as they clean v personal areas and it just feels a bit eww

Malbecfan · 12/06/2019 10:08

I provide a bath towel and a hand towel per guest. There are 2 t-towels in the kitchen and bath & pedestal mats plus another hand towel in the bathroom. I state clearly that beach towels are not provided. My cottage sleeps 5. Even with a large capacity washing machine the towels can be a full load. I don't have a tumble drier so have 3 sets of everything which I rotate.

I make it clear when guests confirm their booking what will be provided. I haven't had any complaints about towels in 12 years of doing this...

amymel2016 · 12/06/2019 10:10

1 hand towel and 1 bath towel per person. For 5 nights I’d usually wash them once whilst there (assuming there is a washing machine).

bruffin · 12/06/2019 10:12

Just making sure i wasnt expecting too much. It was a guest towel each and a floor mat, so 2 towels for 2 of us, and not even quite big enough to wrap around us.
The cottage is really well equpped otherwise apart from the sky box not working properly and light hulbs keep blowing.
We were travelling light as picking dd up on way home from uni, so was relieved they said provided towels.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 12/06/2019 10:14

As an absolute minimum I would expect 1 bath towel and 1 hand towel per person plus bath mats to step out of the shower/bath onto.

Namechangeishard · 12/06/2019 10:14

One hand towel for the bathroom and one bath towel per person.

I always take my own anyway because I need a small towel for my long hair and I like a large bath sheet rather than a bath towel.

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 12/06/2019 10:18

The best self catering cottage we stayed in in terms of towels was:

We had two bath sheets each, two bath towels each in the master bedroom.
Two bath towels for each of our three children
There were four hand towels in the two bathrooms
Two in the kitchen

And a stack of hand towels and tea towels in the airing cupboard.

Plus three big beach towels in the utility.

Lots of smaller ones meant the big ones didn’t get as hammered. we stayed for a week and I washed and dried the bigger ones once during our stay.

The word towel looks weird to me now I’ve written it so many times

avocadosrus · 12/06/2019 10:18

Can you contact the owners and ask for more towels??

Aprillygirl · 12/06/2019 10:19

One bath towel and a couple of hand towels each for a week.

bruffin · 12/06/2019 10:21

A bit lateavocadoras we are packing to leave.
It is a really nice place and we would come back, just bring towels next timeGrin

OP posts:
TwoShades1 · 12/06/2019 10:21

Minimum for me would be 1 bath towel, 1 hand towel and 1 face washer per person. Plus a bathmat. Ideally 2 bath towels, 1 hand towel and 2 face washers per person. Plus 2 bath mats.

Purplecatshopaholic · 12/06/2019 10:26

I would expect a bath towel (preferably a bath sheet) and a hand towel each plus hand towels in each bathroom/toilet. Crap towels that you cant even wrap around yourself are not nice !

Swoopinggulls · 12/06/2019 10:27

In the UK I've never stayed anywhere with less than a bath towel and hand towel per person, plus a hand towel in the bathroom.
One I've been to a few times has a whole pile of towels.

ifonly4 · 12/06/2019 10:33

I'd hope to find one bath and hand towel each. If only one is supplied each, then it'd have to be a bath towel.

LightTripper · 12/06/2019 10:35

I've stayed at places providing just one towel each and it's a pain. Luckily we have young children, who usually get left a towel each too, so we can often manage by e.g. using one of those towels as a hand-towel and the kids share or we use a Muslin to dry them.

I think the minimum should be a bath towel (large enough to wrap round) and a hand towel per person, and a hand towel for each bathroom and the kitchen. Most places do seem to do that but not all!

LoafofSellotape · 12/06/2019 10:41

I would've asked for more towels,that's ridiculous.

Wherever we've stayed has also supplied beach towels on request.

stucknoue · 12/06/2019 10:43

One bath towel (ideally bath sheet) and one hand towel per person plus a hand towel for each sink

FurrySlipperBoots · 12/06/2019 10:49

I would EXPECT an oversized flannel, because I've found that to be the case too often. I would WANT a giant bath sheet plus medium towel for making a turban for long hair plus a hand towel per person.

badger2005 · 12/06/2019 10:53

What a deliciously boring thread!

My favourite post begins: "The best self catering cottage we stayed in in terms of towels was...". I did not realise that towels were such a big deal.

I'm not criticising btw. Does anyone remember the thread of the most boring thing that you'd done today? Strangely that was one of my favourite ever mumsnet threads, full of soothing but intimate details of peoples' lives. Can we restart it, and bruffin can begin by describing the difficulties of not having quite the right number and size of towels.

DarlingNikita · 12/06/2019 11:00

I'd expect a bath towel and a hand towel per person, plus a bathmat. Anything more (say, hand towels already in situ in the bathroom) would be a nice bonus.

What's a 'face washer'? Confused

81Byerley · 12/06/2019 11:02

I've just come back from a week in a holiday cottage. They supplied a bath sheet and a hand towel each, and a tea towel and kitchen hand towel. There was a dishwasher, so one tea towel was fine.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/06/2019 11:03

Leave a review that says just that then: Would love to come back but would have to bring a towel as the 1 towel per person provided was too small for comfort.

badger2005 · 12/06/2019 11:05

I hope somebody is transferring all this data into a spreadsheet to produce the perfect 'towel index' or some such.

JeSuisPrest · 12/06/2019 11:18

Per person
1 x bath sheet
1 x bath towel
1 x face cloth

Communal
1 x handtowel for each night of stay
1 x Bath mat

Definitely tell the owner, it's the little things that make the difference and ime they value constructive feedback like this, not daft things like - "The seagulls were very noisy in the morning staying at your cottage by the seaside" Confused

BogglesGoggles · 12/06/2019 11:20

Anything less that two full sized and one small towel pp is bad form. A bath sheet, full sized towel, hand towel and face towel each is ideal.
