To be pregnant 6 weeks after birth?

alfie22 · 12/06/2019 00:48

I'm seriously freaking out right now.

I've had pregnancy symptoms for the past few days and have just spectacularly thrown up all over the bathroom. Im rarely sick, only when I was pregnant so now I am seriously concerned. I have had aversions to certain foods and also cravings.

Surely it's not possible? I haven't had a period since giving birth, just the regular post partum bleeding that stopped around 3 weeks ago.

Could I even take a test this soon? So many things are going through my mind right now i can't think straight.

the withdrawal method

It isn't a method that should be grouped into "contraception", it isn't.
To the posters saying they'd used it for years, well, your body isn't everyone's, maybe you tracked it perfectly for years but for most people their biology, daily life, etc means relying on something akin to luck isn't sensible.

I hate it when people post "well it worked for me for years", knowing that it isn't typical or sane advice if you need to avoid becoming pregnant. It's irresponsible!!

Damntheman · 12/06/2019 09:25

That's just an incorrect statistic register. Failure rate is more like 27%. 1 in 5 women get pregnant every year using the 'withdrawal method'.

Condoms are 98% effective. or 85% if you're allowing for people being idiots. That's more like 15 out of 100 people getting pregnant this way every year.

Withdrawal is absolutely massively more risky.

KisstheTeapot14 · 12/06/2019 09:27

Phew Alfie. Sounds Like a lucky escape to me! You can get on with just enjoying your baby now.

Gustavo1 · 12/06/2019 09:32

alfie22 try not to worry. If you’re just starting the pill, that can cause some strange symptoms. You may also have strong hormones if your cycle is kicking in again. I had a lot of dizziness and nausea with the first few periods after each of my children.
A negative test is a step in the right direction. Maybe buy another and try early tomorrow morning or in 2-3 days time for reassurance.
Good luck Flowers

KitKat1985 · 12/06/2019 09:39

The negative test sounds reassuring. Maybe take another one in a few days if you are still having symptoms as it might just be too early to get a positive result.

notapizzaeater · 12/06/2019 09:40

I'd take another in a few days and buy some condoms !

justilou1 · 12/06/2019 09:43

My grandmother had two sons born just under 8 months apart. She called them her "Irish twins..." Didn't realise how derogatory that term was until just this very moment. She was a product of her time - but I wouldn't excuse it!!!

badmgr · 12/06/2019 09:47

I felt like this and the panic was awful. I just felt pregnant - had all the symptoms - and I suffer quite badly in pregnancy. I held off testing for 2 weeks because I was so worried! Finally did a test and it was negative (and then got my period the next day!) It was more likely hormones and ovulation.

QueenoftheBiscuitTin · 12/06/2019 09:58

We've just had a thread like this. Did some people completely miss sex ed at school?

needanappp · 12/06/2019 10:01

When was it that you had sex the second time? I saw you mention last week a couple of times but wasn't clear what you were referring to. If it was only last week it's way too early to test and get an accurate result

SummerSix · 12/06/2019 10:06

'I've had sex and have pregnancy symptoms, could I be pregnant?.

Seriously? Ffs.

GetYourOwnLife · 12/06/2019 10:12
Hmm
RB68 · 12/06/2019 10:21

HE hit the roof - surely he knows if he sticks it in its a possibility he is as much to blame as anyone so tell him to keep it in his pants if he doesn't want more kids now

IHopeYouUnderstandWeArePuppets · 12/06/2019 10:27

I met a woman at the shops yesterday who claimed to have a 15mo and a 7mo. I assume the 7mo was premature. She said it would have been easier to have twins, which is probably true.

Pinkmouse6 · 12/06/2019 10:30

Just wanted to say I felt very pregnant from around 4 months postpartum and it lasted a fair while. I knew it was highly unlikely because we’d used condoms but I still had a niggling feeling I was pregnant. Had breast pain, on/off nausea, period style cramps etc then my period suddenly came and I realised it was probably just that!

It could either be an imminent period or the pill but either way, sounds like a lucky escape.

SoupDragon · 12/06/2019 10:52

Didn't realise how derogatory that term was until just this very moment.

So why use it?

Proggy · 12/06/2019 11:17

Hi

I’m
Unexpectedly pregnant . We talked about a child but decided against it mainly because I wasn’t feeling too good , and we thought we’d revisit again in a while .I then found out I was pregnant even though we’d been using contraception !

I’m in first trimester and been feeling sick etc and have had some really low days, probably exacerbated by the unexpectedness and shock !

It’s a lot to take in at first , and even though we wanted a child eventually , and we are pleased and looking forward to it all, when things spring on you ( no matter what it is ) it takes a little while to adjust and get used to the idea and get over the shock !

But please don’t panic . I know two people whom this happened to ... I don’t know about whether my mum was using contraception ( too much information !) but she had my brother and sister exactly one year apart , ( her third and fourth children )!

Wherever my mum goes chaos follows so how she coped I have no idea !so did my dad and the rest of us .

I know you might be panicking right now , but try to take it easy , speak to a close friend or family member to take it off your chest .

You have only just had a baby and need to focus on being and staying well and happy .

You don’t know you are pregnant yet , but if you are you don’t have to panic , it’s gappened to a lot of people and they DO get through it .

Please take care of yourself ....try to relax and surround yourself with your friends and close family x

Hate all you like.

Staryskies · 12/06/2019 11:25

Surely it's far too soon to have such strong symptoms anyway, when did you have sex?

happyhillock · 12/06/2019 11:26

I couldn't imagine having sex so soon after given birth i was to tired and bled heavily for 4 week's, it was almost 3 mths after the birth i had sex.

StCharlotte · 12/06/2019 11:27

I've told my DP there could be a possibility. He nearly hit the ceiling.

Why? Was he begging you to let him put on seven layers of condoms but you jumped him anyway? Thought not.

I hope the result is what you want it to be and if it's a scare, best not rely on the withdrawal method Smile

CorBlimeyGovenor · 12/06/2019 11:34

Hate to say that I told you so... but... I TOLD YOU SO!!! Now don't do it again and wear a leotard (with a wetsuit over the top) to bed in future!

CorBlimeyGovenor · 12/06/2019 11:45

Just as I said. Poo = germs = can cause stomach upsets. It's pretty common to change a baby on a changing mat in a room other than the bathroom. You then end up touching more door handles on route to wash hands. Second time round I kept a bottle of hand sanitizer next to changing mat. Was never unwell.

crispysausagerolls · 12/06/2019 12:18
  1. ffs breastfeeding is NOT a contraceptive. Stop peddling this myth.

  2. “getting it out of the way” = what a lovely expression about having a baby 😐

Thegoodthere · 12/06/2019 12:47

I'm amazed OP can actually change a nappy with those nails ...
