Posting here for traffic
So basically last year I started on sertraline for anxiety and depression and ever since I have been piling on the weight.
One area I'm particularly conscious of this my stomach and how I look pregnant.
What should I do??

It doesn't resemble normal weight gain, no. It looks really uncomfortable, abnormal and with the vomitting, I think you need to be seen asap and NOT fobbed off.

DrCristinaYang · 11/06/2019 16:31

I'm really worried. I'm panicking that it's something serious :(

I too think you need to be seen asap.

Wildorchidz · 11/06/2019 16:37

Hopefully it’s not serious but it’s good you have a GP appointment soon

FaithInfinity · 11/06/2019 16:44

I tend to gain weight around my stomach and bloat. Questions - does it come and go or is it consistent? Do you have any issues with your bowels

I think it warrants a discussion with your GP. Ovarian cancer is unlikely given your age. It could be other medical issues including an ovarian cyst, fibroids, something bowel related (coeliac disease can cause bloating). I would suggest you need routine bloods and then to feel your abdomen, they might suggest an abdominal ultrasound scan (yes I’ve been down this road before). Definitely ask.

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/06/2019 16:47

Yes you definitely need to be checked out asap. This could be the AD but equally it could be cancer or a cyst - vomiting ties in with both amongst other things such as twisted ovary but that would not give the distension.

SirVixofVixHall · 11/06/2019 16:49

I would ask to see the GP right away, no point in waiting over a week, you need to know what is causing the large tummy.

Mine looks like that - never recovered old shape after pregnancy plus weight gain from antidepressants. It’s just where I gain weight, it’s my beer belly.

boiseidaho · 11/06/2019 16:51

I think it's good that you're due to see your GP soon - hopefully they'll be able to assure you that nothing untoward's going on.

Whilst your abdomen does definitely look pretty distended, I know from experience that sometimes weight gain 'caused' by medication can distribute itself quite strangely around the body.

Go to a GP. We are not doctors.

Maybe read the whole thread.

Darkcloudsandsunnydays · 11/06/2019 17:17

The internet is a dreadful place to seek advice and certainly not medical advice. You need to see your GP.

HairyMcWary · 11/06/2019 17:20

My tummy is bigger than looks like that. I'm fat.

alfie22 · 11/06/2019 17:21

I don't want to frighten you but this happened to my friend when she was 16. She looked pregnant but she wasn't. It was ovarian cancer.

Please try to get checked ASAP xx

Bobbiepin · 11/06/2019 17:24

Look up Cushing's disease. Do you have any other symptoms that match?

bobstersmum · 11/06/2019 17:25

I used to look after a lady who looked pregnant. She had a huge cyst on her ovary it was 13cm. They just monitored it! However I used to work with a girl who at 20 started to look pregnant and kept going back to TV doctors because she was so slim otherwise. Eventually they scanned her and she had a ovarian cancer the size of a grapefruit. She was very lucky they removed it and she had treatment and recovered absolutely fine. I would go to the gp.

bobstersmum · 11/06/2019 17:26

To doctors not tv!

Cryalot2 · 11/06/2019 17:26

Just get checked out and I hope it is nothing to worry about.
Thanks for your post, I am amitriptyline and am bloated, just at stomach .

gingerpaleandproud · 11/06/2019 17:28

See your GP ASAP, OP. A distended stomach and vomiting needs to be investigated.

DrCristinaYang · 11/06/2019 17:34

I keep trying to tell myself it will be okay because I have put weight on in other parts of my body- just not to the same extent as my stomach.
But I'm terrified and I've been putting off going to the doctors for a long time as I'm scared of what they're going to find.

QueSera · 11/06/2019 17:36

Looks like severe bloating to me.
Please see your GP! get referred to a specialist if need be! Check for ovarian cancer, cysts, anything that could be taking up space in the abdomen.
Anything else that you can think of that could be causing it? Food - junky food, or gas-producing foods? fizzy/carbonated drinks?
Any trouble going poo, any constipation?
Maybe try a probiotic tablet? I had bloating and the specialist recommended peppermint tea, but it made me feel very ill.
Good luck OP, I hope the cause can be found and sorted.

DaftAsABrush15 · 11/06/2019 17:41

My friend had a stomach like this when we were 13 (25 now) and she had ovarian cancer. I've been on my antidepressants now for 18 months and have gained about 3 stone all over. Please get yourself checked out.

Pollypenguin01 · 11/06/2019 17:44

I have a stomach just like yours and mine is fat.

I’m coeliac and get quite a bit of bloating, but not on anti depressants or anything.

I’m trying to do something about my weight and i get a lot of people touching my belly asking when I’m due.

SkintAsASkintThing · 11/06/2019 18:00

Belly fat is linked to anti depressants etc.......my DS takes risperidome and has caked on an awful amount of weight as a result. Mainly in his middle.

It's always wise to go to the doctors with stuff like this but I honestly wouldn't worry
