AIBU to be worried?!

I think I might be pregnant.

I've had the exact symptoms of implantation bleeding two days ago and I'm due my period in 2-4 days.

Me and my partner use the pull out method (yes yes I know, don't start!) but we've not had much sex this month and none of it has been crazy drunk sex or anything, all sober and pretty sensible haha. I know it's possible to get pregnant like that, but it seems incredibly blooming unlikely! Think how hard two people who are actively trying to conceive have to work to make it happen, it can't be THAT easy, surely?

It definitely wouldn't be the end of the world if I was pregnant and I'd actually be really pleased, even if the timing isn't ideal. That said, I'm still worried!

What else could the implantation bleeding be? Is it ridiculous to be worried? Confused Did any of you conceive despite all the odds of the situation?

The odds of you conceiving in the circumstances you’ve described are very high, so I would say it’s extremely plausible that you are pregnant - if so, congratulations!

You need to POAS.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 10/06/2019 13:05

Just do a test. No one here is going to be able to reassure you. You've had unprotected sex so yes, of course you could feasibly be pregnant.

TheRealShatParp · 10/06/2019 13:06

I disagree with the odds being very high, but it’s definitely possible.

Fyette · 10/06/2019 13:09

A bit of a strange question. You know the pull out method is not 100% safe. When you do it correctly every time (and that's quite tricky), it is about as effective as using condoms. But condoms aren't 100% safe either, and people get pregnant in spite of them all the time. So yeah, it's possible. Go and do a test.

AshQ · 10/06/2019 13:10

I’ve had spotting before my period for no apparent reason. Hope you get the result you want.
I don’t know how likely it is to get pregnant on the pull out “method” but I have a friend who claims to have done it for years and never got pregnant until they stopped.

tealandteal · 10/06/2019 13:10

Well for some people, it is THAT easy. The only way to know is to POAS. And let us know the outcome!

GirlAtWork · 10/06/2019 13:11

When you do it correctly every time (and that's quite tricky), it is about as effective as using condoms

No it isn’t! Condoms are 98% effective, the pull out method is 78% effective. That’s a huge difference!

IvanaPee · 10/06/2019 13:12

Literally nobody here can tell you whether you’re pregnant or not! Just do a test. Confused

Fyette · 10/06/2019 13:12

No it isn’t! Condoms are 98% effective, the pull out method is 78% effective. That’s a huge difference!

That's because almost no one manages to do it correctly every single time.

GooodMythicalMorning · 10/06/2019 13:14

It IS that easy. If sex happens then pregnancy is a possibility.

GetYourOwnLife · 10/06/2019 13:15

You don't use any contraception. You had unprotected sex. It's not unlikely you are pregnant. Hugely insensitive thread to people are having problems with infertility.

GirlAtWork · 10/06/2019 13:16

That's because almost no one manages to do it correctly every single time.

But that’s the point. It’s ineffective because it’s hard to do.

Pinkvoid · 10/06/2019 13:26

The odds are pretty high using withdrawal method, there’s a reason people had upwards of ten children before contraception was invented... I’m sure many of them pulled out too, it’s just not very effective at all.

If you really don’t want to get pregnant, you need actual contraception. Take a test, it’s the only way you’ll find out if you’re currently pregnant.

FlyingSpaghettiM0nster · 10/06/2019 13:28

I spot before my period, the only times I have ever not spotted was when I was pregnant. You really should take a test before assuming anything

simplekindoflife · 10/06/2019 13:33

Do a digital test.

Crunchymum · 10/06/2019 13:40

I swear we have one of these threads daily??

Do a test and if you don't want to be pregnant, sort out some proper contraception.

Jellybeansincognito · 10/06/2019 13:52

I’d say it’s unlikely, I’ve used withdrawal for 10 years, it works for us. Whenever we’ve ttc we’ve been successful the first month.
Used properly I think it’s ok.

Get a test to put your mind at rest though, good luck!

HollowTalk · 10/06/2019 13:53

Look at the large Catholic families which have relied on the withdrawal method and then think again about whether it's effective.

FatAndShattered · 10/06/2019 13:56

Currently 30 weeks pregnant and it happened in the exact circumstances you have described...

We were delighted with the news, you would struggle to ever find the perfect timing anyway.

Only one way for you to be sure though! I hope it’s the result you both want Smile

onalongsabbatical · 10/06/2019 13:58

Some people don't conceive easily. Some conceive extremely easily. Unprotected sex can result in pregnancy in either group, but in the latter group, with great frequency. You know there are 7 billion people on the planet and billions more throughout history, don't you? Most of them, the vast majority, conceived by unprotected sex.

Passthecherrycoke · 10/06/2019 13:59

Well it’s not easy to get pregnant even completely unprotected but of course you have more chance than if you had been using contraception. First response tests can be taken 6 days before period due. Take one.

My understanding is condoms are only 98% effective in machine testing, IRL to take account of user error, splits etc it is about 75%.

Ironymaiden · 10/06/2019 14:10

Hugely insensitive thread to people are having problems with infertility.

No it isn’t. The OP can’t live her life worrying about offending people with personal issues.

Bambamber · 10/06/2019 14:12

For some people it really is that easy. I've had 3 pregnancies, all conceived in the first cycle of trying. I also have endometriosis and my husband has had a previous trauma to his testicles, so it shouldn't be that easy but it has been.

If you don't want to get pregnant, use contraception

Whackitupto200 · 10/06/2019 14:15

Pulling out is an odd method to be using given your level of anxiety over the possibility you might be pregnant.

BlingLoving · 10/06/2019 14:37

The fact that condoms might only be 75% effective is giving me heartburn....

Take a test. Pull out is hugely unreliable.
