Friend losing weight in one week

I’m probably gonna sound unreasonable but ive been on a diet since mid January, ive lost almost 3 stone but I’m still pretty big and got a lot more to lose. Anyway no one has really noticed but that’s fair enough. My friend has been on a diet for ONE week and apparently she’s lost “loads of weight” and everyone is saying shes lost weight? Aibu to think it’s not possible to lose a noticeable amount of weight in one week? She is saying it’s because she is smaller and that’s why it’s more noticeable but one week?

(should mention, I'm not overweight nor was I having surgery! I was just recommended the diet by a friend and honestly it's fab).

Congratulations on your weight loss OP! I think it comes down to politeness - if your friend is banging on about losing 6lb eating cabbage soup the only reasonable thing to say is 'wow, well done!' If you are not drawing attention to your weight loss then people will be loath to mention it. Perhaps you think you will only look fabulous and be able to dress to impress at the 6stone mark and are still 'hiding' a bit?

I feel uncomfortable mentioning if an overweight person has lost weight but still overweight as I worry maybe they were not on a diet but me saying they have lost weight implies I think they should be on one. People get so angry about 'fat shaming' I worry I will say the wrong thing. If someone who is not overweight has lost weight I will happily comment

Depends if its fat or water she's lost. On diuretics, DH can lose 8 kilo in a week.

The really big 25+ stone people frequently drop between 12-18 pounds in their first two or three weeks with SW, but this isnt sustainable and they quickly drop a steady 3lb loss.

Don't think you can lose 10lb of fat in a week, unless you are maybe climbing Everest.

Sounds like she is (not so) subtly discouraging you.... some friends don't like seeing their fat friends getting slim...
