Newborn and 22m old.. Double pram or buggy board.

I have a perfectly good single pram that I want to use again. But dd will only be 22m old and most of the time I'd be on my. Own with them out and about. Although I do drive.
Speaking to my. Mum she said it would be sad to make dd grow up too quick and walk everywhere. She's 15m now and is a good walker but that's with me having both hands free and going places with no matter of urgency I. E the park, local. Shop. Not the city centre.

A friend said about the bugaboo donkey as can convert to a single when dd is with childminder or GP as they often take her out. Alternatively I still have my other pram.
. I certainly won't pay 1500 for a BN bugaboo but would get 2nd had around 450 if needed but didn't want it to be a wasted expense?
My other thinking is it will be winter?

We’ve just gotten a universal buggy board for our oyster 2 pram - my DS is 2 and 3 months and it’s really handy. It was only 30 quid instead of £450!!

bridgetreilly · 05/06/2019 16:55

It is not sad to make your older daughter walk! That is ridiculous. It may, however, be inconvenient to always have to go at toddler pace.

Kanga83 · 05/06/2019 16:57

Single pram, your dd can use that when tired and baby can go in sling, then buggy board for when baby needs it.

IVEgottheDECAF · 05/06/2019 16:57

I would get a cheap double for times when its unsuitable for your dd to walk. At 22 months she might not be happy on a buggy board.

HereForAdvice2019 · 05/06/2019 16:58

That's my thinking. But u less to the local shop everything else would be too far.. Even the park is a good 10 min drive away so not walkable for dd. However hoping to move before so could all change

I had an icandy orange for my new born and 3 year old. It can be a double or a single and has a built in buggy board. It really has been invaluable and I would recommend to anyone.

Pinkvoid · 05/06/2019 17:01

22 months is too young to walk everywhere imo. My 3yo DD still used the buggy very occasionally.

Bugaboo donkeys are great, I would invest in one of those if you can afford it.

heidipi · 05/06/2019 17:05

We got a second hand Phil & Ted's double for £90, which we later resold for £40 so it more than earned its keep. I was really glad of it - sometimes it was great to be able to strap them both in, sometimes they both fell asleep at the same time! Without it I would have used the car a lot more - DD2 was a newborn in the summer so it was great to be able into walk everywhere. If you have the space to keep an extra pram I'd recommend getting a 2nd hand double.

Scrumptiousbears · 05/06/2019 17:05

We had this gap between our DDs. We started with a double buggy and then onto a buggy board. Our oldest was a late walker and she struggled with the board initially.

Single pram and babasling

PurpleCrazyHorse · 05/06/2019 17:07

My SIL has a 6mo and a nearly 3yo. She has a single buggy with buggy board seat and a sling. So if the oldest is tired (like when they go out on day trips), she puts him in the buggy and wears the newborn in a sling. Works well. Oldest only now needs the buggy on long days out, and he uses his sit down buggy board when she's in a rush. He's a bit too little to stand up all the time and they are out and about a lot.

WhenZogateSuperworm · 05/06/2019 17:09

I got a second hand out and about nipper double for my 2 year old and newborn and it’s been a life saver.

Pipandmum · 05/06/2019 17:09

Mine are twenty months apart and I got a double buggy where one side could go flat. Paid no where near what you are talking about! I did get a buggy board too but found it too awkward to walk with my big son on it.
As I had a c section I didn’t drive for a few weeks but went for a long walk every day and in town it was great to have them both contained so to speak! Plus if the older one needed a snooze it was possible, or he could walk if he wanted. Hell of a push up the long hill with both of them in it though!

WTFdidwedo · 05/06/2019 17:10

There's 17 months between mine and it's taken until now for my eldest to embrace the buggy board and she's pretty much bang on 2.5 now. We spent a long time deciding and in the end went with a second hand Mountain Buggy duet as it's the narrowest side by side available and also the lightest buggy I've ever pushed!

Chocolate1984 · 05/06/2019 17:13

24 months between mine and I just bought a buggy board.

LonelyBones · 05/06/2019 17:14

This conumdrum is how people end up with 3 or 4 prams/buggies!

We have 4 different buggies! Bought the double buggy when toddler was 2 1/2 yrs and with newborn. Handy for days when a) its raining, you dont want newborn in baby carrier and you are on nursery run b) you want hands free when out with both c) when both children nap and you are out

We spent £250 and it was worth it. Ill probaby sell it on and get 75%of the value back.

They are massive though and take up all the space in your car boot.....

megletthesecond · 05/06/2019 17:14

Double.
Invaluable when the weather is bad and you can't dawdle or someone is having a tantrum. Also carries more shopping.

Silversky70 · 05/06/2019 17:14

I had a tandem. It is bliss when they both fall asleep at the same time!

BazaarMum · 05/06/2019 17:15

I had a similar age gap and I’d say definitely a double, unless you are always going to carry the baby in a sling so the toddler can go in the buggy. There will be (lots of) times when you need the toddler strapped in out of harm’s way, or when they are simply too tired to walk/stand on the buggy board, and it’s too far for you to carry them.

The Out n About double or city jogger are both great and you can get them for a snip on ebay or selling sites. I just got an insert to support the newborn in the normal seat, you really don’t need a fully flat carry cot.

springgreensunshine · 05/06/2019 17:17

How much do you walk and how much patience do you have?

I don't have much patience for persuading a sulky 2 yr old to walk home from the park when she doesn't want to leave and it's threatening to rain so I bought a double.

I'm also not very good at having things on me, whether that's a baby or a handbag or whatever, I would rather they were in the pushchair.

Mine was a second hand out n about nipper. Loved it.

TheDarkPassenger · 05/06/2019 17:19

At that age I think you’ll regret not getting a double buggy tbh. I had a 3 year old when had my last child and he used to stand on the back of the buggy but any earlier I think his legs would have hurt :(

Lilsquish · 05/06/2019 17:24

I had planned to use single pram with buggy board with my newborn and LG who was 28months.

She is a great walker however is going through a stage of wanting to run ahead, not hold hands etc and also likes to touch everything on shop shelves etc.

So i bought a double buggy (third hand so great price) and so glad i did.

Took them to a shopping center last week and it would have been stressful with LG walking and having freedom.

You could always try the buggy board and if it doesn't work out get a cheap double. Keep an eye on fb marketplace or gumtree so you dobt waste crazy money on either a board or double xx

ImnotlikearegularMomImacoolMom · 05/06/2019 17:36

We bought an iCandy Peach and it's great. Converts from single to double
