I was innocently sat reading a thread when this horrific advert image appeared and burned itself into my retinas.

AIBU to be offended?

Or is it that, as a 44 year old, I am just ignorant of fashion trends, and that this socks n sandals combo is actually 'well peng' or something?

Hey, thinkingcapon wear whatever makes you feel good! I apologise in advance, though, I will totally be taking the piss.

MaybeitsMaybelline · 04/06/2019 20:08

don’t young ones wear sliders and sports socks these days? I’m sure they do, or they did until very recently. I am really sorry but I think it’s a trend.

Saavhi · 04/06/2019 20:09

I prefer this to seeing peoples gross toes

AllOverIt · 04/06/2019 20:10

There is so much wrong with that photo...

GirlFliesHome · 04/06/2019 20:12

I think they got those sandals from a shop that had a sign saying 'Please wear socks when trying on footwear' and no-one realised they were supposed to take the socks off for a photo shoot.

Uzicorn · 04/06/2019 20:13

Shoot me but I don't see anything wrong with it. If it gets too warm, you can take the socks off and feel cooler.

Hopefully others with cold feet will understand Grin

Housemum · 04/06/2019 20:15

Ugh - my FIL wears this nylon-looking thin beige socks with sandals. I don't even know where you would buy them!! Maybe he stockpiled in the 70s.

I used to put white socks with the DDs sandals when they were very little to prevent rubbing (maybe I just believed the shoe fitter's line but I was told that pre-schoolers shouldn't wear sandals without socks).

But things I would never have dreamed of wearing are becoming mainstream so maybe socks-and-sandals is A Thing. I find those little beige nylon "footsies" hideous, the sort of thing only old ladies wore if they wanted to go out without stockings on, but nowadays I see plenty of women in their 20s wearing them, they always show over the edges of your shoes. Bleugh.

And tights with open toes was a no-no when I was a teenager but I think that is normal now? I've seen elegant women at events wearing sheer tights and high-heeled sandals? Would love to know if that is ok as it would actually be more comfortable...

AnyFucker · 04/06/2019 20:15

That looks like a very comfortable combination

OhMsBeliever · 04/06/2019 20:17

Ha! All those people who laughed at my chunky sandals at primary school will now realise I was a fashion leader! I was ahead of my time. About 33 years ahead. Grin

FunnysInLaJardin · 04/06/2019 20:22

Actually I really like them! Although that is a mans leg. I would totally wear them for walking........

alwayscoffee · 04/06/2019 20:42

I’ve never understood why this is such a sin. I get really sweaty feet and if I don’t wear socks my shoes stink. It would be great to wear sandals to keep my feet cooler but I’ve never had the confidence as I would need to wear socks. Damn society and it’s nonsense judgements

RompeCabezas · 04/06/2019 20:49

My youtube channel is profiling me and getting things HALF right.
Catfood commercials - I've no cat so no thank you
kissing techniques - whaaaaat, no thank.
Loads of growth and enlightenment stuff - mind valley, ok , thumbs up.

So it knows I'm a single woman in her forties but it doesn't know me at all!

RomanyQueen · 04/06/2019 20:58

I wish I could wear these with the socks, but at 52 the effect won't be young and cool. My dd friend would wear them, she couldn't care less and is a gawky teen.

ReanimatedSGB · 04/06/2019 20:59

All the cool teens round our way wear socks with sliders. Apart from the ones who wear what appear to be fluffy mules.

ReanimatedSGB · 04/06/2019 21:02

Though I agree that socks with sandals can be more comfortable and prevent rubbing and getting super-sweaty feet. I always have problems finding summer footwear that doesn't hurt TBH (very sweaty-footed person).

AmeriAnn · 04/06/2019 21:04

No wonder people give me funny looks when I'm out and about sometimes.

I sometimes where my Timberline boots with leggings - in the summer when it's 100+ degree F.. I bet people's retinas were damage or something.

Like I give a shit.

Ilovetolurk · 04/06/2019 21:05

surgical support sandals

Grin
Schnitzelvonkrumb · 04/06/2019 21:12

YANBU if this is a trend i am more than happy not to follow it!! ignoring the fact that none of my wardrobe is selected with being on trend in mind my mum had some sandals when i was young which made a pfft/farty sound when she walked. We always used to really take the piss out of them. A few years ago the same type of sandal seemed to be quite trendy but i just couldn't bting myself to get some even though they looked quite comfortable 😂

Boysey45 · 04/06/2019 21:13

I wear thick socks with my birkenstocks when its cold in the house, not to go out in apart from to the bin, in the garden etc.

Laiste · 04/06/2019 21:13

What? This is fashionable? For young people. Those socks + those sandals.

I ... it's a joke and i'm not getting it yes?

Schnitzelvonkrumb · 04/06/2019 21:14

I also dislike the socks and sliders/fluffy sliders trend (which seems to have been around for way too long ages.) My theory is if you need socks with sandals, its not warm enough for sandals in the first place!

ToPlanZ · 04/06/2019 21:15

Good Lord, and I thought Donald Trump's face would be the most offensive thing I saw today.

Laiste · 04/06/2019 21:15

Yes, no.2 DD wears the fluffy mules and no.1DD's boyfriend wears the slider/sock combo. I can cope with those, but this beige sock Jesus sandal thing? ......

Craftycorvid · 04/06/2019 21:17

I tend to think a sock and sandal combo’ can make the wearer appear slightly deranged. I’d definitely be into ‘mad bat’ territory if I attempted it, fond as I am of comfy toes (plods off in DMs fisherman’s sandals).

zinger · 04/06/2019 21:17

I wear my berkenstokes with trainer socks but only in Sweden, too many judgy bods here!!
