To ask if you saw a 'celebrity' would you approach them?

Just been in a pram shop and saw an actress from Hollyoaks, DH told me to ask for a pic but I said no because she was clearly busy being shown a pram 😂 so just wondering if you saw a celebrity in a shop would you approach them? Or let them get on with their life.

Also should they be ready to be approached constantly or not? Whats your opinion x

No, I'm too shy. I'd be more tempted if it was an accidental encounter like waiting in a queue when it's common to chat about nothing. With family or looking at a pram, no.

2beautifulbabs · 04/06/2019 14:24

I was stood next to Nick Frost at Gatwick security check once I mentioned quietly to my DH but decided to not say anything to him as I didn't want to bother him or make a scene and end up causing the poor man to have lots of people stare or ask for photo and I think I'd do same with any celeb really I'd prob give them a glance and maybe a smile but would leave them be and there are so many celebs I'd happily say hi to like Tom Hanks, Tom hardy etc but just wouldn't have the guts to incase I caught them on a bad day and they were dicks would ruin how I seen them then

pigsDOfly · 04/06/2019 14:24

I used to live not far from the studios where Eastenders was made; probably still is I imagine.

Often used to see cast members in local shops or around the town, but no, would never have approached them any more than I would approach any other random stranger.

Lauren83 · 04/06/2019 14:25

No I wouldn't, someone with a main part in one of the popular soaps lives on my road and he usually leaves the house in a cap with his hood up as I'm sure it gets tedious getting approached, when he is in the local no ones bothers him but it's mainly neighbours in there anyway but I bet if he goes to Tesco he gets pestered

GaraMedouar · 04/06/2019 14:27

Absolutely not. I would not acknowledge that I knew them, or ever ask for an autograph because we are all just people same as each other. Obviously apart from nodding politely or smiling as you would with any other random stranger.

FenellaMaxwell · 04/06/2019 14:28

Oh I just smiled sweetly, said sorry to both her, and let her flounce off with her granny pants on show.... Grin

FenellaMaxwell · 04/06/2019 14:28

*Bother her

Disfordarkchocolate · 04/06/2019 14:29

How did you control yourself @SilverySurfer?

SrSteveOskowski · 04/06/2019 14:30

@webuiltthisbuffet, I don't believe it! GrinGrinGrin

iklboo · 04/06/2019 14:30

No. I may smile & give 'the nod' if I catch their eye but that's about it.

rideawhiteswan · 04/06/2019 14:31

No never approached a celeb off duty. I've chatted away to dom from dick and dom in the bungalow oblivious to who he was. We were just talking about our dogs in the park. He was the most charming lovely man.
Other celebs I sometimes do a double take a I think I know them before I realise then I painstakingly avoid eye contact!!

Picklypickles · 04/06/2019 14:31

No way, I'm painfully shy! I don't even know how to start a conversation with a non famous person and I'm terrified of being yelled at!!

Redshoeblueshoe · 04/06/2019 14:33

I nearly did by accident. I was on my lunch break as was an actress from Coronation Street. I was just about to say hello, when I realised it wasn't a someone who I actually knew Blush

JessieTalamasca · 04/06/2019 14:34

No.

myDHhasahobbyanditsnotcycling · 04/06/2019 14:34

No, I would smile if I am a huge fan, but that's it.

There are a couple of very famous people who take their kids in one of the park where I take mine, people seem extremely respectful and leave them alone and if they take photos are extremely discreet because I've never noticed.

What is embarrassing is when you think you recognise someone you know and you realise later you don't, it's just a famous person you've never met in real life Grin

headinhands · 04/06/2019 14:34

If they were working. Like an actor that was mooching about during filming in a village but no, not if they're buying milk.

Pgqio · 04/06/2019 14:34

I've seen loads of celebrities but have never approached them apart from striking up a conversation with Rhona Cameron because I thought she was someone I knew. She humoured me for a couple of minutes until it dawned on me she was "off the telly".

MayorPrentiss · 04/06/2019 14:34

No. Except for Jilly Cooper, if I saw Jilly I wouldn't be able to stop myself.

TheFeet · 04/06/2019 14:35

I doubt I would even notice/recognise them. But I have trouble recognising faces so could probably be in conversation with someone famous and not have a clue!

hazell42 · 04/06/2019 14:36

Not unless it was Johnny Depp. Even then I wouldn't speak to him.
Might follow him home though

CherryCheezcake · 04/06/2019 14:36

No, definitely not. I've worked around famous people, and the public feeling of entitlement to their time is extraordinary. Even at stage doors, there's no obligation to sign autographs and pose for selfies. Audience members paid to see the show, not for a meet- and-greet.

I've seen matinee audience members, after the show while the cast are having a nap/ dinner before the evening show, hammering on the stage door demanding to know when the star is coming out to sign their programme

ProbablyPertunia · 04/06/2019 14:37

I am currently in the queue for an easyJet I flight with Kerry Katona... I shan't be approaching!

AudTheDeepMinded · 04/06/2019 14:37

I think it depends on the context. I saw one of my all time favourite musicians at a beach, walking his dog. My children approached the dog and asked to pet it. We passed the time of day and I said 'Are you incognito today then?' to which he replied' getting some much-needed fresh air', and that was it. But I wouldn't approach someone in a very public place, or if they were engaged in conversation, a transaction or something.
If eye contact was made I would probably give a little surreptitious wave but not make a huge deal of it.

A few years's ago I was on another beach on New Years' day when a family group approached and asked if I would take a photo for them. Had a bit of a chat etc. As we walked away DH informed me I'd been obliviously comparing Xmas notes with a very well known BBC correspondent.

ThorosOfMyr · 04/06/2019 14:38

Absolutely not. Living, working and going out in London means you see famous and very famous people all the time. I would never approach one or make it obvious that I had clocked them.

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 04/06/2019 14:38

I've also struggled not to ravish / leap on / inappropriately lick a few international eventers I've met...

But as a general rule, I don't recognise people enough to approach them, and I wouldn't if I did. I have made eye contact with a few tv type actors in passing, while desperately trying to work out how I knew [of] them - I find the awkward half-smile-half-nod while walking briskly past is generally reciprocated. Generally, I then realise I don't actually know them, and making eye contact at all was unnecessary... All I can say is I'm absolutely rubbish at recognising faces!
