My castrated, diabetic male cat got taken by a stranger to be castrated, he’s very unwell

Hi, please be gentle with me I’m very upset. I have a five year old male cat that got recently diagnosed as having diabetes. We have been keeping him in the house to monitor his diet. Yesterday lunchtime, he managed to squeeze past a delivery driver. We searched all yesterday and this morning for him. While putting out the washing, I heard a lady going round shouting, foes anybody have a black cat. I said yes, thinking oh my god, he’s dead. She declared your cats at the local vets for pets been castrated. Apparently she thinks my 5 year old largish castrated male, was her 6 month old kitten, how I have no idea! They got as far as the anesthesia until they realized it was not the kitten but my male cat and then checked the microchips. The vet has said they take full responsibility for not checking, she can’t understand how the women thinks my fully grown cat is her kitten. I’m still very upset. The fact he was taken there, knocked out and his sugar levels dipped that low I watched him faint on the table. The vets done full blood work on him and said other than his glucose he’s fine. He’s home but is refusing to eat, I’m having to syringe feed him. I know unlikely but has anyone else experienced anything so insane? I still can’t believe the entire situation. He’s due back at the vets in the morning x pic of him in his -what have you done to my ears moment

God I’m so sorry, how awful. Hope he makes a full recovery Flowers

Whereisthegin1978 · 03/06/2019 20:12

Your poor cat - and you. I can’t get my head around someone mistaking an adult cat for their kitten. I hope he recovers quickly 💐

madderthenaboxofffrogs · 03/06/2019 20:13

Omg that is crazy, hope there not charging you for the tests. Hope he recovers, bless you

WeeDangerousSpike · 03/06/2019 20:15

Oh god, how frightening! I hope he's OK Flowers

My grandmother had her elderly deaf and mostly blind cat taken from inside her front garden by people who thought she was a stray. They were on holiday in Cornwall and took her to their vets in the fucking Midlands!!

She was very lucky to get her back, as the vet identified her as a kitten, not a 13yr old, so the description the Midlands vet sent to the cornish vets didn't match her at all.

Some people take twattery to a whole new level.

feathermucker · 03/06/2019 20:16

How did she make that mistake? I hope your cat will be ok. Did she apologise?

HolyMilkBoobiesBatman · 03/06/2019 20:18

Oh your poor cat!
He’s a gorgeous boy!

That’s utterly ridiculous and quite how they vet got as far as putting him under before realising he’d already been castrated is ridiculous too!

Poundlandkate · 03/06/2019 20:21

I don't understand how they could mistake a kitten for a fully grown cat? Should have gone to Specsavers. I hope he makes a full recovery.

CountTessa · 03/06/2019 20:21

This happened to my parents... They had a wandering cat and after he returned from a long absence they decided to have him neutered. Only to discover that he had already been done. Then they got a bizarre letter from a woman 3 streets away complaining he was always spraying in her house so she'd had him done.

VladmirsPoutine · 03/06/2019 20:22

Wasn't there a thread telling the opposite side of this story earlier. All very odd.

dontticklethetoad · 03/06/2019 20:22

Absolutely bonkers!

Not quite the same, but my brother's very elderly (18) and decrepit looking (yet quite spritely!) cat got taken no less than 4 times to 3 different vets by the same women, who insisted she was being neglected. Each time the vets insisted not and scanned chip, contacted my brother etc.

The woman then kidnapped her and locked her in her house (she was seen in the window).
She was then taken to a fourth vet by the woman, suffering with a spinal/hip injury, that she apparently had no idea how she got Hmm
The vet's best guess was she had slammed a door on her whilst trying to stop her escaping her house.

The cat made an OKish physical recovery considering her age, but became very timid and didn't go outside again and died about 4 months later.

Complete batshittery.

OVienna · 03/06/2019 20:23

Take them to the cleaners. Burn it down!

ch3rrycola · 03/06/2019 20:23

Poor lad! Hope he's ok. He'll soon starting eating I'm sure, been a traumatic day for him.

WeeDangerousSpike · 03/06/2019 20:24

Was there vlad? How odd!

Drogonssmile · 03/06/2019 20:26

Oh bless him and his little ear clips Sad I hope he's ok. Poor lad.

Jemima232 · 03/06/2019 20:28

Aw - your poor fella.

He's a gorgeous boy, BTW.

Hope he's back to himself soon.

spiderlight · 03/06/2019 20:33

The other thread was someone who'd seen a man dump a cat in a bag and run away, and that one was going to be castrated at the end of this week, so I don't think it can be the same cat.

Evilspiritgin · 03/06/2019 20:33

To be fair I wouldn’t blame the woman but the fact the vets didn’t realise it wasn’t a kitten before they antheatiz

Xxalisoncxx · 03/06/2019 20:34

I’ve no idea on another thread, i’ve never posted on the pet boards before I don’t think, it’s definitely not me. I know it sounds absolutely ridiculous but sadly it’s absolutely true. He’s not looking very well, I’m trying to get him to drink at the moment. No I didn’t have to pay for the blood work etc

Evilspiritgin · 03/06/2019 20:35

So sorry 😐 anaesthetised the poor thing and then had the cheek to say they couldn’t believe the woman didn’t know

AbsentmindedWoman · 03/06/2019 20:35

This is awful, your poor boy Sad

Is the vet sure there is no neurological damage from the hypoglycaemia - how did they fix it and how long was he out? Did they do some IV glucose?

Xxalisoncxx · 03/06/2019 20:36

The ear clips ( curtain rings) were only for the photograph, he kept playing with them when I got new curtains, I promise he only had them on seconds for the picture- he wasn’t harmed in any way

ChesterDrawsDoesntExist · 03/06/2019 20:36

Poor kitty. I think it should be standard procedure to quickly scan every animal that comes through a Vet's door's. Stolen or lost ones can be flagged up immediately. Their identities and ages also verified! I don't want to be cattist but the same colour ones really do all look alike.....

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 03/06/2019 20:37

Surely they could see he was already castrated?

Aimily · 03/06/2019 20:41

Your poor poor boy, I hope he makes a full recovery and fast.

Jetstream · 03/06/2019 20:42

Poor wee pet. Honestly some people. The vets should have realised a bit sooner,
