In asking if people think I should see a doctor?

I got bitten two days ago on the arm. I think. I was working outside and looked down and it was bleeding, I didn't catch or bash it that I know of.

It's been itching like hell ever since and now has swollen up and it got and hard.

Going to the doctor on a weekend will cost me a small fortune (not in the UK) and it's 2 hours each way (please whatever wait the ER will have.)

DH thinks it's nothing and I shouldn't be worried but he's no good bloody judge, he's one of these people that doesn't go to the doctor until he's half dead or a limb is falling off.

Pictures included. I'm assuming it was a spider bite as a red ant or similar would have hurt more at the time.

I'm so bloody cold and shivery but getting to a doctor now will cost me thousands.

She also gave me a tdap as she said the tetanus booster was important because I was gardening.

Ugh, I'm so hot and cold and want to chop my fucking arm off.

Sorry, I realise at this point I'm not asking for advice. More of a pity party. Sad

Oh how crap
How many doses of anti biotics have you taken
Can you take some anti inflammatory meds
And what about anti histamien for the itching

streakofmalevolence · 02/06/2019 03:56

I'm on a night shift on an intensive care unit
Have shown your photo and given your history to my colleagues
The opinion is you need intravenous antibiotics, sorry if that's not the news you wanted

PatricksRum · 02/06/2019 03:59

Sepsis?
I would go to the hospital op

LazyFace · 02/06/2019 04:07

That red line going up your arm concerns me. It could be a sign of lymphangitis.

Strangerthanstrange · 02/06/2019 04:17

I agree, it is tracking up your arm and you are feeling feverish. You need to go to hospital.

RightYesButNo · 02/06/2019 09:31

OP, please listen to others. Between the fever, the growing swelling, and that red line up your arm, you must seek hospital treatment, and you’ll need probably IV antibiotics at the very least. I hope you’ve already gone. The longer you wait, the worse and more expensive it will be, unfortunately. I’m very sorry.

Anyone who wants the NHS to go private (or even get rid) should read this thread - yes, the NHS is clunky and has some problems, but it breaks my heart watching OP worsen while making the decision to go to hospital or not based on cost, not need, just like thousands of Americans must every day.

greathat · 02/06/2019 09:41

Have you started on your way to the hospital yet?

LoafofSellotape · 02/06/2019 09:48

Wow that travelled up your arm fast, really hope you've gone to the hospital by now as that needs to be seen immediately!

Zebraantelopegiraffe · 02/06/2019 09:54

Hope you have gotten the care you need op

Strangerthanstrange · 02/06/2019 18:25

Hope everything is OK @arganlady? Did you go to the hospital in the end?

EAIOU · 02/06/2019 18:28

Just read the full thread. I hope you sought further medical attention.

LimitIsUp · 02/06/2019 18:29

The tracking up your arm is very concerning! As others have said - hospital now

Thank you all! I sent in a picture last night and they told me to double up on the antibiotics.

I went in to see a doctor today and they given me more antibiotics and I've got to go back tomorrow.

If it gets worse in the meantime I'll have to go in for an iv.

It's hard because we live on a island so the only way of me getting to hospital last night would have been bluelighted on an emergency ferry. That and the er and the stay would have come to something upwards of $5000.

I miss the NHS!

It does look worse but I'm only just coming up to 24 hours on anti biotics so the doctor said that was to be expected.

You need to be seen ASAP

UrsulaPandress · 02/06/2019 18:41
Shock
EdWinchester · 02/06/2019 18:43

Bloody hell OP, that looks bad now.

Hope you’re ok.

DesperadoDan · 02/06/2019 18:45

It looks much worse op, please get yourself to a hospital as soon as possible.

JustHereforHarriet · 02/06/2019 18:45

I’m allergic to mosquito bites and they swell up like this. Same with the puss.

Oysterbabe · 02/06/2019 18:47

I'll be disappointed by any outcome other than baby spiders hatching out of the wound.

I hope you can get some help and get better soon OP.

Processedpea · 02/06/2019 18:50

I had this and had to have if drip and operation. Was seen very quickly as I was very unwell. They kept me in! Have a wound that needs packing every day

SparkleGem · 02/06/2019 18:52

Which part of the world are you in? Are you on holiday? Hope everything goes well
