Went today to get dd's new shoes for school. They had hardly any sizes of the "normal" shoes but every size in these awful "daisy" shoes with the doll in the heel. Ended up paying an extra £5 for the doll the size of my thumb . Woman in the shop then proceeded to take dd around the shop showing her the trainers/slippers/wellies that she could get in order to collect all the other dolls (not a chance). It serves no purpose to the shoe, only a marketing ploy forcing already stressed parents to part with their money. Plus can you imagine what next term will be like, with all these dolls (and cars for the boys) being lost, fought over etc. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a letter home shortly after the beginning of term asking the children not to bring them in.

DSs have had these toy-on-the-heel shoes. I just took them out so they don't go to school. Doesn't bother me.

Beauregard · 21/07/2007 22:32

What toy in shoe shoes?

ComeOVeneer · 21/07/2007 22:32

True you can take them out, however I object to paying an extra £5 for something I don't even want.

Do you have a link to them? Are they Clarkes or startrite?

crokky · 21/07/2007 22:45

Went to Clarks this week. Measured LO, went to look for shoes, came back "sorry got none at all in that size". Clarks seem to be doing something very wrong.

ComeOVeneer · 21/07/2007 22:46

I know sweeties, and you can no longer order shoes so you basically have to take what they have in their size. However it was the shop assistant showing dd (5) all the other dolls she could get by buying the other kinds of shoes that really annoyed me. I told dd in no uncertain terms as we walked back to the car that she wouldn't be getting them.

i hope the link works for you ff2!

elesbells · 21/07/2007 22:49

its not only me then. i went to clarkes yesterday to get dd3 her first shoes and have her feet measured ect. not one shoe in her size. flippin useless they are!

RavenclAwen · 21/07/2007 22:51

last year ds's clark shoes had a space shit in the sole which could be taken out - 2 halfs one in each shoesl No problems at all. Sometimes he had toy at school and sometimes not.

RavenclAwen · 21/07/2007 22:52

& not an ethnically diverse representation amongst them

So if my DD was little she would cry cos there wasn't one that looked like her

Fireflyfairy2 · 21/07/2007 22:57

Not sure what the problem is really

I don't think dd would play with the dolls at school, but then she is a stickler for the rules & would be horrified at getting into trouble!

This is the type of school shoe I go for!

A normal plain boring T bar shoe

That's if they have it in dd's size usually!

ComeOVeneer · 21/07/2007 23:00

That is partly my point FFF2. They had nothing in dd's size other than the ones with the dolls inside (there were 5 styles without dolls) and those were all at least £5 more expensive than the doll-less ones.

Fireflyfairy2 · 21/07/2007 23:02

Oh.. I sorta missed the point a bit

What size feet does your dd have?

Mine is 13 & she is not 6 yet. I struggle with this a bit as I am a size 2 & am almost 30

Know how you feel - DD is yo & size 2.5......I am 4.5 think she is going to have big feet

ComeOVeneer · 21/07/2007 23:09

DD is 5.5 and a size 11F. Pretty average, and seeing as it is the first day of the summer holiday you would think they would be well stocked

Thank god it's not only me that never can find the right shoes for their Kids...it's a pain in the neck, cos no matter what size we need they are always out...grr...I mean, I could understand it if we had always lived in this area, and the same people roughly need new shoes for their Kids at the roughly same time...but we have moved loads and still got that problem,sigh...

Glad it is not just me. If I wanted to spend £5 on a toy for my dd I would get something better than a 2 inch plastic doll

OP posts:
SlightlyMadSpider · 21/07/2007 23:15

I saw them advertised on TV last night. I thought WTF.
I am afraid if I can't get anywithout a crappy doll I shall be taking them to Startrite or to Brantano for some hush puppies.....they only wear them in the playground anyway so I would rather take them to Tesco than buy them shoes with such a naff marketing gimick.

ComeOVeneer · 21/07/2007 23:18

We only have clarks locally, and I had to sort them before we go away on holiday, (only returning the day before school starts). DD wears them all day at school 5 days a week so I want to make sure they fit properly, otherwise I would go cheaper. (I certainly don't buy their slippers, trainers or wellies.
