Elegant? Pretty? Or just remind you of Hev from Eastenders...

OP posts:
Boopeedoop · 29/05/2019 22:38

Someone I know is called Heather and she is the nastiest person I've ever met.

IsabellaLinton · 29/05/2019 22:39

I don’t like it I’m afraid, it’s very dated.

pourmeanotherglass · 29/05/2019 22:41

I quite like it - heathers I have known have been lovely and mostly Scottish - but the 80s film is now a musical which is quite popular with teens at the moment, so the "Heather= bitch" thing may still be around.

Pk37 · 29/05/2019 22:41

Hevva from EastEnders I’m afraid

time4chocolate · 29/05/2019 22:51

Another one here - I knew a Heather who turned out to be the most spiteful, devious and just downright nastiest person I have ever had the misfortune to know. Prior to that I did quite like the name but that has now been sullied for me.

SrSteveOskowski · 29/05/2019 22:52

I only know one Heather. She's mid 40s and a complete bitch.

Urbanvoltaire · 29/05/2019 22:54

I like it, reminds me of Scotland.

GrungeBetty · 29/05/2019 22:54

I really like it! I’m Scottish and like Scottish names for our DCs. Alas it’s the name of my husband’s ex though so was never put forward as a suggestion for our DD...

MyBlueMoonbeam · 29/05/2019 22:57

All the Heathers i've known have been perfectly pleasant 😊

MyBlueMoonbeam · 29/05/2019 22:58

The Sheilas however 😱

MsRinky · 29/05/2019 22:59

I prefer Erica.

Ohyesiam · 29/05/2019 23:00

For some reason I don’t
Like it.
I should like it, plants are one of my favourite things, but it sounds a bit wet to me.

bwydda · 29/05/2019 23:01

Makes me think of the film and now musical . Sorry but as a cult film that has been adapted (to great review) to stage- it's bitch connotations are going nowhere

KC225 · 29/05/2019 23:03

I like it.

BetsyBigNose · 29/05/2019 23:04

It makes me think of a stereotypical 80's teenager, complete with luminous pink leg warmers and bleached, crimped hair! I agree with PPs; very dated - sorry OP!

whippetwoman · 29/05/2019 23:09

I like it. In one of my DS's class there is an Eve, Eva and an Ava (all nice names but so similar). A Heather would stand out and be awesome.

BlueGlassesFrames · 29/05/2019 23:11

I love it as name. It's not my name, but I often get called it (for some reason), and I like it a lot more than my actual name.

22Giraffes · 29/05/2019 23:13

First thought is Hev from Eastenders, sorry!

FlipFloppyFlop · 29/05/2019 23:14

Lovely name. Would stand out today.

Fedoratheexploreer · 29/05/2019 23:14

It’s my nans middle name so I love it

thegreylady · 29/05/2019 23:18

I always think of Heather West, murdered by her father it’s a sad name to me,
Erica is Latin for heather if that helps.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 29/05/2019 23:20

Very dated to me. I grew up in the 70s and 80s in Scotland and knew a few Heathers. It was a dull insipid name then, usually of dull insipid people.

Heather1980 · 29/05/2019 23:26

I’m a heather so obviously I love it. I have Irish/Scottish heritage so I have a few of others in my family too.
I’m not a bitch either Wink
I know a couple of other heathers and they are perfectly lovely as well

DD2 16 months is a Heather. No bitchy tendencies as yet. In fact, she's absolutely delightful. It's just a name. For what it's worth, everyone we've met has gushed over how they love her name and how they have a beloved mum/auntie/granny with the name and isn't it lovely to hear it on a little one. They could be lying, of course. 🤷‍♀️
