Elegant? Pretty? Or just remind you of Hev from Eastenders...

I love it. But then it's my darling sister's name whom I love very much.

fedup21 · 29/05/2019 22:05

It’ll always remind me of the film Heathers-it would be a no from me.

robinsarebins · 29/05/2019 22:05

It's not offensive as a name, but I have the same problem with it as others in that the only Heather I know is a one of the most awful, horrible most irredeemable human beings I've ever had the displeasure of crossing paths with.

ElizaPancakes · 29/05/2019 22:05

Makes me think of the film too. I don’t dislike it, but I think there are nicer nature names.

DuchessOfRednecks · 29/05/2019 22:06

I really like it. I understand that it was overused massively in America between 1970 and 1980 (roughly?) and so it could no possibly sound more jaded than it does right now. Not a young person's name. Nowhere near grandma chic about to come back. BUT it's a pretty sound and I love Heather.

Fraoch the Irish version is lovely as well. FRAYoch (like the end of Loch)

locketsprocket · 29/05/2019 22:07

Sorry I hate it only know one who is about 20 (my niece's sister in law) and she is the most sour faced, rude person I have ever meet

Rocketgirl1 · 29/05/2019 22:07

Very ‘70s. It’s a no from me.

itssquidstella · 29/05/2019 22:08

@robinsarebins so many evil Heathers around - hope I'm not the one you knew!

Notthetoothfairy · 29/05/2019 22:09

Not keen.

ShiveringCoyote · 29/05/2019 22:09

Depends on the accent in which it's spoken. Sounds lovely in an accent with the H and th prounounced. Sounds awful with the H dropped and a vv sound.
It's not a judgement on accents but just an observation.

Reenascreena · 29/05/2019 22:10

It’s a Maureen and Brenda kind of name for me.

bobstersmum · 29/05/2019 22:10

Reminds me of Mills

BreconBeBuggered · 29/05/2019 22:11

I quite like it. I can only think of one that I've known, and she seemed lovely, not that that should make any difference.

Williamshatnershorses · 29/05/2019 22:11

I love it, we had it on our shortlist for DD, but it just didn’t work well with our surname. I was very sad.

OhMyDarling · 29/05/2019 22:11

It’s a bit old lady-ish

DramaAlpaca · 29/05/2019 22:12

I'm of 'a certain age' & I really like it. I met a three year old Heather recently & it suited her so well. She told me her name was Heather Kate, which I thought was really lovely.

ToffeePennie · 29/05/2019 22:13

I know two people with the name heather. Being too young to remember the film and having grown up with one of them, I think it’s a lovely name. Said correctly and not shortened it’s a classic.

Idontwanttotalk · 29/05/2019 22:15

I neither especially like or dislike it. It's okay. I wouldn't say it's elegant or pretty. It is a little old-fashioned. People I know with that name are in their 60s.

JaneGlorianaVillanueva · 29/05/2019 22:15

Sorry I'm not keen, I think it's old fashioned

Leeds2 · 29/05/2019 22:15

It's a bit "meh" to me - don't dislike it, but don't particularly like it either. Probably a bit old fashioned.

AnneElliott · 29/05/2019 22:17

No I don't like it. I think it's old fashioned, and will probably be pronounced 'Hevva'.

The only one I know is also a horrible human being so that probably biases me as well.

Avocuddles · 29/05/2019 22:17

It's my name. 30 something, not evil, not American. I've met very few other Heather's in real life so quite like the name for that reason, however I always struggled pronouncing my 'th's' when I was younger which was somewhat problematic....

SpotsAreAppearing · 29/05/2019 22:19

Bully in my class at school was Heather.

Other two people I know with the name also weren't pleasant people.

Not one if ever choose.

But if I'd have known friendly heathers then I can see it has nice connotations.

BrokenWing · 29/05/2019 22:28

I know a couple of Heathers (Scottish) and think it is a lovely traditional name rather than old fashioned.

OopsIHidItAgain · 29/05/2019 22:32

It is dated currently, but I think it's due for a combat in the next few years, as it is an inherently pretty Rose, Ivy, Grace -esque name, a couple more years until the generations of patents stop knowing it as the 'dated' name
