To ask if anybody flew at exactly four and five weeks pregnant to help my paranoia?

I think it's highly unlikely we'll have just conceived for various reasons but now I can't stop worrying about it. We are sort of trying for another now - ie "not not trying" and see what happens. It took a year before with a miscarriage in between (six months to first pregnancy and then another six months after miscarriage)

If we have, I'll be four and five weeks pregnant (from LMP) when we go on holiday. I can't find any sensible evidence of any risk from the radiation etc, other than air hostesses do have a higher rate of miscarriage but clearly they will be on more flights.

We have one absolutely amazing DC born with birth defects caused by an unknown "event" at around five weeks. I knew I was pregnant and followed every guideline to the letter so we still don't know why, the drs have told us it's just one of those things and unlikely to affect a future pregnancy.

To ease my mind, please has anybody flown in this specific period of gestation and if so can you tell me about your DC?

It's just such an incredibly sensitive time for the developing embryo and I admit the radiation worries me a teeny bit. When DC has x rays they tell us it's only the equivalent of a certain length flight, yet they are always very careful to check if I'm pregnant. So if it's equivalent why does it not matter when it comes to flying? I feel like it can't go both ways, but rationally I know I am probably being silly.

I'm not always this anxious, no, but I am about this.

I flew the day I found out I was pregnant - just under 4 weeks. Baby is healthy and 5 months old now!

Candleglow7475 · 29/05/2019 19:42

I flew at 6 & 7 weeks pregnant so 4-5 weeks after I conceived. DD is now aged 10, no problems whatsoever ever during the pregnancy.

lmlm123 · 29/05/2019 19:42

I flew at 4 weeks and a few days - no problems at all and my DD is 21 months now, currently throwing the world greatest bedtime tantrum Hmm

ChipsAreLife · 29/05/2019 19:43

I flew at around 6 weeks and had no problems whatsoever, just make sure you move around and drink plenty of fluid.

CMOTDibbler · 29/05/2019 19:43

After three miscarriages, I found out I was pregnant while I was overseas - so I flew out at 4 weeks, back at 5. He's a big, hairy 13 year old now!

Neverender · 29/05/2019 19:44

No but flew at 10 weeks for my honeymoon and was fine

BasilBooBoo · 29/05/2019 19:44

I flew long hall at 4 and five weeks and my now 1 year old is complete fine

BumandChips · 29/05/2019 19:46

I conceived on honeymoon...DS is fine! I had no idea I was pregnant when we flew back, and then got very drunk at a party when we got back!

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 29/05/2019 19:46

I did at four weeks, five weeks 17 weeks 22 weeks 24 weeks 30 weeks and 31 weeks. DS is absolutely fine.

Storminakettle · 29/05/2019 19:47

Thank you, this is making me feel better. Even though DC is perfect and will I'm sure live a completely normal life (certainly doesn't hold them back one bit now) the guilt tears me up and I'd do anything to take this away from them

So I guess I feel a bit sick about putting another child "at risk" in this way, even though there's no evidence that there is any risk whatsoever!

I flew 9 hours back from my honeymoon at 4 weeks pregnant with a err secret stowaway on board. Got stuck into the booze as well Blush. She’s turning 3 in the summer, and is fine (in a terrible twos kind of way). I’ve never seen any warnings or evidence about flying so early on, I’m sure you and baby will be fine.

Storminakettle · 29/05/2019 19:49

I think it doesn't help that I watched an online lecture about DC's (rare) condition and the slides said that they didn't know what caused it but "maybe the mother had a big night out, or had an x ray" which actually doesn't sound medically accurate either and I did neither of those things but it's always in the back of my mind that maybe I did something

I conceived whilst on holiday, so flew back when he was a 3 day old ball of cells

GookledyGobb · 29/05/2019 19:54

I flew at 4 and 5 weeks, 8 and 9 weeks with my first, all long haul, she’s now 5 and fine

SoyDora · 29/05/2019 19:55

I also flew the exact day I found out I was pregnant with DC1 (4 weeks 2 days) and flew back at 5 weeks exactly. Then continued to fly at least four times a month until 32 weeks pregnant.
She’s 5 now and absolutely perfect.

Happyspud · 29/05/2019 19:57

I flew long haul at 4 weeks. No issues with child at all.

astonvanilla · 29/05/2019 19:57

I flew when 4 weeks pregnant with my son who is nearly 9 now and fine. Only found out the day before so no time to think about it!

TurquoiseDress · 29/05/2019 19:59

I flew around 5 or 6 weeks with my first pregnancy and had absolutely no idea that I was pregnant

During the holiday we went on, I drank loads of alcohol and ate all the "wrong" things.

Obviously stopped all that after I found out (after the holiday)

DC1 was born on time, very healthy etc

mindutopia · 29/05/2019 20:00

Not exactly, but I’ve flown long haul at 7 and 10 and 16 weeks and had 2 healthy babies. In fact, the only pregnancy when I didn’t do any travel was the one where I had a miscarriage. You’ll likely feel awful and exhausted, but your baby will be fine.

AgileLass · 29/05/2019 20:01

I flew at 5 and a half weeks, no problems (after having 2 MCs previously).

I’m sorry to hear about your DC, but how did they pinpoint the root of his condition to a precise time in early pregnancy? I’ve never heard of anything like that before.

Wenttoseainasieve · 29/05/2019 20:01

DC1 - I flew at 7 and 9 weeks. Four years old and healthy

DC2 - flew at 3 and 5 weeks (these were long haul). 13 months old and healthy

mindutopia · 29/05/2019 20:02

Oh, I should add, I also flew long haul at 3-4 weeks with my youngest. Also drank about a bottle of wine a day that whole week too! (Was on a very big holiday)

Storminakettle · 29/05/2019 20:06

Thank you, I feel much better! We probably won't conceive for months anyway but at least I know not to worry

@AgileLass not an exact point but around about week 5/6 as that's when those areas formed

I flew at 4.5 weeks pregnant. Suspected I was so was just careful lifting heavy luggage (simply for peace of mind, I know it doesn't correlate to miscarriage) and have a happy healthy one year old. I flew Uk to Canada too so not a short flight.

Nameisthegame · 29/05/2019 20:09

4 weeks almost too the day didn’t know I was pregnant got drank nearly everyday for two weeks and had 3 coffees a day as well as smoking like no tomorrow dd is 22 months and perfectly healthy xx congratulations btw xx
