To ask if anybody flew at exactly four and five weeks pregnant to help my paranoia?

I think it's highly unlikely we'll have just conceived for various reasons but now I can't stop worrying about it. We are sort of trying for another now - ie "not not trying" and see what happens. It took a year before with a miscarriage in between (six months to first pregnancy and then another six months after miscarriage)

If we have, I'll be four and five weeks pregnant (from LMP) when we go on holiday. I can't find any sensible evidence of any risk from the radiation etc, other than air hostesses do have a higher rate of miscarriage but clearly they will be on more flights.

We have one absolutely amazing DC born with birth defects caused by an unknown "event" at around five weeks. I knew I was pregnant and followed every guideline to the letter so we still don't know why, the drs have told us it's just one of those things and unlikely to affect a future pregnancy.

To ease my mind, please has anybody flown in this specific period of gestation and if so can you tell me about your DC?

It's just such an incredibly sensitive time for the developing embryo and I admit the radiation worries me a teeny bit. When DC has x rays they tell us it's only the equivalent of a certain length flight, yet they are always very careful to check if I'm pregnant. So if it's equivalent why does it not matter when it comes to flying? I feel like it can't go both ways, but rationally I know I am probably being silly.

I'm not always this anxious, no, but I am about this.

I would have flown at least 2-3 times in week 4 and 5 of all my pregnancies. No problems.

I did! Didn't know I was pregnant. Carried my heavy bags, slept on the hard airport floor during layover, and drank several free gin and tonics were enjoyed while I was atching movies! Blush DC is now 2 Smile

Flew again at around 8 weeks. Should you not then? I've never heard any advice about this (except that you can't fly after 35 weeks). Will be flying again this pregnancy too.

HomeMadeMadness · 30/05/2019 08:07

Yes I did. I didn't know I was pregnant at the time. No problems at all.

Yep! I fly regularly for work, and with both pregnancies flew pretty much every week until about 6months. 2 perfectly healthy babies

I flew long haul at those gestations with both dd. One is now 9 and bright as a button but full of cheek, the other is currently breastfeeding and making it hard to type this!

I flew at 9 weeks with horrendous hyperemisis (spent most of the flight in the loo or wanting to faint) but baby was a absolutely fine and is now an attitude filled primadonna 6 year old.

I was about 5 weeks pregnant with my eldest when I flew for a holiday. I didn't know I was pregnant until we got home (I was stressed about flying so figured my period was late due to that.)

Everything was fine and I had no issues.

Lifeonmars77 · 30/05/2019 11:08

I didn't fly but I went to Alton Towers at 6 weeks pregnant (before I knew obviously) and went on all the big rides at least once. I found out I was pregnant a couple of weeks later and stressed about it for ages. There was no need though, I have a very happy and healthy 2 year old.

Teddybear45 · 30/05/2019 11:13

It depends. If you have a clotting disorder (and you won’t be tested automatically for this so you may not know) you are more likely to have an miscarriage (up to 24 weeks) if you aren’t given appropriate medication as it can cause micro-clots.

If you have no complications then it should be fine.

MRex · 30/05/2019 11:24

I flew at 3-4 weeks pregnant here, so just 1-2 weeks after conception. He's 14 months old now and very healthy.

Same as @SnowyAlpsandPeaks I conceived on holiday and flew back long-haul loaded up on Xanax. Also didn’t take folic acid since we weren’t actively TTC. Baby turned out fine :)
