I've just deleted another 7166 unread emails... I'm overwhelmed. I think they are breeding.

Do a mass delete and then unsubscribe from everything that comes in afterwards apart from the ones you actually want.

I work on 'inbox zero' for work, and my personal email is mostly shite but I feel angsty if I go over 30 unread.

Angelf1sh · 28/05/2019 08:05

Currently I’m at 28,559.

Also, what is Julie saying that’s keeps getting deleted?!!? How can anyone breach the talk guidelines on this thread?!

Shadycorner · 28/05/2019 08:07

Does anyone know why my Internet provider keeps sending me notices saying my e-mail capacity is nearly full with over 7,000 messages in it, when I have deleted my inbox to contain 700 and my sent box 400 and call other files (junk , trash, drafts) are empt)? Where are all the missing ones?

I can't get through to their help line to ask!

newjobnerves · 28/05/2019 08:07

Oh my goodness I really didn't know there were people in the world like this ha. Like a pp I have a few email addresses and each one has sub folders and I deal with emails almost immediately (at the very most weekly if busy but would have always read them)- delete, star, sub catergorise. This would stress me out!!

MillieMoodle · 28/05/2019 08:09

I have 26,306 in my personal email. I'm off work today but a quick glance at my work phone shows 67 unread emails. It will probably be over 150 by the time I get in tomorrow. The personal emails thing doesn't bother me, I am gradually reducing it. The work one drives me mad. I could spend all day replying to emails and never get anything else done!

SgtFredColon · 28/05/2019 08:11

Yeah a guy I work with has over 200k unread. Stresses me out. I never have any. Delete all the junk daily and read anything important (or mark as read eg booking confirmations).

Emojina · 28/05/2019 08:19

That 106k is 15 years of unread emails in gmail... I’ve got a great email address that is basically my first name plus another letter. My first name is also a surname in some other countries - so the amount of random emails I get is sometimes annoying and sometimes a joy. In error, I’ve been invited to work at a graffiti festival, been sent fertility results, mortgage approvals, family photos, photos from Vegas holidays, receipts for adult incontinence products - all the flotsam and jetsam of life. Plus obviously a ton of retail emails. I do reply when important and say you’ve got the wrong email address, and I do unsubscribe from the donut shop in Ohio type emails. However, do I care that I didn’t read an email back in 2004? Or ten today? Nope. Life is too short... and I am super organised but believe in being good enough rather than perfection. Interesting to hear other people’s perspectives though.
My work inbox is always all read at the end of the day. That’s different though...!

thegreylady · 28/05/2019 08:21

I have no idea how to mass delete. I only use an iPad and the only options seem to be to delete one at a time or ‘Mark All as Read’.

bridgetreilly · 28/05/2019 08:26

I have none.

I have occasional bursts of unsubscribing from every promotional email that comes through my inbox, which helps a lot, and I have pretty strict spam/junk settings, so I don't look at those. But in my main inboxes, I don't have any that stay unread. I don't know how people live with thousands!

bridgetreilly · 28/05/2019 08:27

shadycorner it sounds like you're only deleting them in your email client (Outlook or whatever), not on the server, which is what's getting full up.

PettyContractor · 28/05/2019 08:33

I can't believe that having countless unread emails makes life easier or better than having zero. For one thing, it means you don't know when you have new messages, so you're losing some functionality your email system could be giving you. Secondly it means your inbox can't be your to-do list, so you have to use something else/extra for that.

Unsubscribe from everything. In theory you might need to mark stuff as spam so it will automatically be eliminated, but in reality I've almost never needed to do that. Unimportant non-spam stuff just delete when looking at your inbox. Anything else archive when done with it.

If you look at your inbox daily it doesn't take more than a few seconds to eliminate a days worth of junk.

Ragwort · 28/05/2019 08:36

I must be incredibly unpopular as I don’t have any Grin, I probably only get 3-4 a day, deal with them immediately, no problem.

Boulezvous · 28/05/2019 09:27

I deleted 63,000 emails the other weekend - read and unread. And they continue to accumulate now.

justaweeone · 28/05/2019 09:30

I have 69357Grin

UCOinanOCG · 28/05/2019 09:34

Crikey. I get hot sweats just thinking about having all those unread e mails. I Deere them as I get them, usually without reading them. It takes seconds. And I unsubscribe to things a lot. My inbox is pristine. Halo

M3lon · 28/05/2019 09:35

52024 apparently....

I did spend some time deleting a load recently too...

UCOinanOCG · 28/05/2019 09:35

I read them not Deere them. I don't run them over with a large tractor. Although that would be a lot of fun!

Peridot1 · 28/05/2019 09:35

Am boggled as to th deleting too. I don’t remember any nasty comments when I read earlier?

I hardly ever use my Gmail account so emails build up in there. I did delete some after posting earlier and unsubscribed from a few of the main offenders. No idea why I didn’t do that before!

My day to day email has lots of emails but none unread. I did a big unsubscribe mission a while ago so I get less there. Usually deal with stuff but then don’t always delete. I use a iPad day to day and find mass deletions easier on desktop so might try to do a few sessions to do a clear out.

fedup21 · 28/05/2019 09:36

37,000 here!

Smolo · 28/05/2019 09:37

Only 64165 here!

To have 4978 unread emails?
HeadlessGummyBears · 28/05/2019 09:42

I used unroll me

chipsandgin · 28/05/2019 09:43

31,543 here - I’m never going to be able to sort that out!

HeadlessGummyBears · 28/05/2019 09:44

Posted too soon Blush Unroll me helps to unsubscribe to things and also with mass deletions of emails. DP recommended to me because he believes in inbox zero lol.

lucymegan · 28/05/2019 09:55

I have 9,252 unread emails and 114 Unread texts.
My husband can't even look at my phone because it gives him the rage lol. He's one of those people that can't have any notifications and reads and deletes his emails everyday.

I also have loads of things open on my phone and never swipe them away 😂

Roomba · 28/05/2019 10:00

I think I have more than that - all rubbish I don't need to read, but I never get time to go through and delete them all. I did delete 'all unread emails' a couple of years ago, but it's built up again now.

That's my personal email though. I hate having any unread or unfilled emails in my work account!
