DH has low energy, doesn't want to go anywhere. Managed to get him to take us (D's, 12) and myself to an activity this morning . Place has just opened and was empty but he still complained the music was too loud. It was nice weather when we left and I asked to go to park, and it was a no because he wanted to go back home (it was 11.15 am) came home and he has just sat watching TV. He's now nearly asleep.
DS is playing with Lego and fortunately has a sport activity later this afternoon. DH will not take us to the activity, which is twice a week, as he might not be able to park his car again when gets back. All the other parents collect their children. We are always the ones stood waiting for the bus.
He has regular reviews for thyroid meds and isn't depressed (been seen by GP) It's an embedded attitude. I do everything with Ds on my own

He sees an endocrinologist every 6 months

Yeah, me too - and my health has only got improved by ME taking control, and learning about my illness. I was previously housebound. I would not be here if I had relied on endocrinologists. Get copies of his blood test results, and get yourself onto a thyroid health forum (like HealthUnlocked, Thyroid UK) and learn about just how debilitating thyroid disease can be.

Does your DH say anything about how he feels, mentally or physically?

So he is hypothyroid and on thyroxine ?
The way he is sounds very typical. I am hypo and on thyroxine, but I have no reserves of energy and I feel nothing like how I was pre-thyroid disease. I often feel flat and struggle to have enthusiasm and energy for things.
It is better when my levels are good, but still far from “normal” .
He needs to ask what his levels are, because he may be under medicated , it is very common. He also needs to ask to be tested for coeliac, and his iron, B12, and vitamin D.

Thyroid disease gets little sympathy because people with it look fine. Everyone assumes that once you are on thyroxine you are ok again, but for very many people this is not the case at all. Auto-immune disease is in itself tiring.

I was very energetic, enthusiastic, cycled everywhere, bouncy and sociable. I am nothing like that now, even when my levels look ok my vitamin D is too low and I am struggling to improve it. I get brain fog, need quiet time alone, and after a day out somewhere, the next day I am flat, grumpy, and exhausted.

Have a look at thyroid Uk website, and think of joining for their newsletter.

I bet he's not taking enough thyroxine. He should speak to gp

SirVixofVixHall · 27/05/2019 17:17

His GP will probably (like mine) tell him a TSH of 4.6 or whatever he has is fine.
I feel worse if my TSH gets to 2, and ideally it needs to be around 0.5
Can you afford for him to see someone privately ?
You can get bloods done from various places, eg Blue Horizon, that will check all his levels.
His GP can organise a coeliac test.
