I'm just curious about which snacks would be most missed if you were forced to move to another country? Not really AIBU but posting here for traffic.

OP posts:

Cheese and onion crisps
Salad cream

SchoolPanicTime · 26/05/2019 18:35

Chocolate digestives
British chocolate bars in general (especially when I lived in America and the chocolate sucked).
Not really snack food but chips from the fish and chip shop and
British Bacon

It was sausage rolls I missed when I lived in the USA, also other pastry snack foods. It's the not being able to buy them that makes you think they are better than they are, rarely buy them now I live here and instead crave corn dogs!

francienolan · 26/05/2019 19:07

When I left the UK for a couple years i missed clotted cream, steak and ale pie, pub chips, hard cider, and mint aero. My supermarket in the US actually had mint aero but at some stage it has been allowed to melt and solidify into non aerated chocolate. My countrymen just did not understand!

There's a lot of American food I miss here but I do think British food is so nice and has gotten really really good in the last decade or so.

SunshineSpring · 26/05/2019 19:10

I'm abroad.
I bulk buy bovril. Marmite is available.
Mince pies, hot cross buns, crumpets, decent bread (frankly, hovis pre sliced stuff would do me right now), tunnock's teacakes (I can occasionally find caramel wafers tho), ribena (not now they have removed the sugar), British, kelloggs, rice krispies (yes, I can tell if the are the US ones).
Chocolate that melts at mouth temperature, not this stuff designed to survive crazy hot temperatures.

Wine, gin, bacon, sausages, ham.

hsegfiugseskufh · 26/05/2019 19:13

Aldis version of penguin biscuits. Saying that maybe i could get those elsewhere..

Capara · 26/05/2019 19:15

I left the UK through free choice :) but nonetheless miss:
*scones and clotted cream (not that I'd have that very often but it is probably the most delicious thing ever)
*options hot chocolate
*baked salt n vinegar crisps
*the huge range of delicious ready meals if you ever don't feel like cooking
*quorn sausages
*proper baked beans
*chocolate buttons
*jam rolypoly
*Yorkshire pudding

A lot more too. After a long time away, I've been known to get teary in Asda!

Capara · 26/05/2019 19:17

Gone beyond snacks...good thing i didn't get on to the bubble bath!

PushkarKali · 26/05/2019 19:17

Not a snack, but proper tea.

In America - cheese. You have look hard to to seek out a decent cheddar, never mind anything French.

On the plus side, they have cinnamon chewing gum Smile

Jamhandprints · 26/05/2019 19:17

When I lived abroad I missed cadburies chocolate, choc digestive/ hob nob biscuits and proper tea bags.

IntoValhalla · 26/05/2019 19:20

Whenever we went back to my parents’ home country as a kid, I always missed British crisps Blush You can get “Lays” crisps which are exactly the same as Walkers, but I mean things like Monster Munch, Quavers and Wheat Crunchies! It would always be a long couple of months for me without them Sad

IntoValhalla · 26/05/2019 19:22

Oh and boiled sweets!! Like foxes glacier mints/fruits.
Even in the airport there, they don’t sell boiled sweets to suck during take off and landing Confused sand almost every variety of sweet you can buy in family packets are either covered in dark chocolate or chewy Hmm ‘Tis very odd Hmm

CielBleuEtNuages · 26/05/2019 19:23

At first i missed loads but gradually my tastes changed. Only thing when i go back i have to have is a decent jam doughnut.

Also bourbons, chocolate digestives, cheddar, marmite, sausages...but there is an M and S food here so im very very happy.

YahBasic · 26/05/2019 19:26

The main things I missed were:

Quavers
Mini Cheddars
Salt and vinegar squares
Galaxy chocolate
Cornish pasties
Crème eggs

There was an M&S in Singapore so that was really helpful to get most things I missed/had a craving for.

When we moved to SA, Woolworths was basically M&S so didn’t really miss much. Now we’re back, I miss speckled eggs!

grumpycatgrumpycat · 26/05/2019 19:28

M&S melting middle chocolate puddings and Bahlsens Pick Ups.

Wouldn’t last very long without either!
