To think this is frying steak and not rump?

Me and OH went away for the weekend we had a meal included in our stay but we didn't like the meals. so we could pay £10 surcharge for a rump steak. When I seen it and tasted it I thought this is not rump!! It tasted and looked like cheap frying steak.I did mention it to the waiter but she said she wasn't sure.

I'm not a steak connoisseur so just double checking before I tweet them.

It looks thinner than you'd normally cut rump steak, but it's very difficult to tell from a photo.

TheAverageJuror · 26/05/2019 09:28

Hard to say with all that sauce, but I don't think I've ever seen rump this thin

SinkGirl · 26/05/2019 09:31

I mean, you can cut any steak really thin if you want - hard to say what the cut is but a £10 supplement for that is pretty ridiculous.

PunishmentSnart · 26/05/2019 09:34

It looks vile Confused .

I would not have paid £10 supplement for that!

cccameron · 26/05/2019 09:36

I have seen thin cut rump for sale, probably for use in stir fry/sandwiches etc. To charge £10 for that though is an absolute pisstake. I would have complained.

ClashCityRocker · 26/05/2019 09:36

Rump is usually cut thicker, but as pp says, anyone can cut it to any thickness.

I don't if frying steak refers to a particular cut, or just the thickness?

I also wouldn't be happy paying a £10 supplement for that.

Branleuse · 26/05/2019 09:37

thats not rump.

kalopali · 26/05/2019 10:21

Rump is usually cut thicker but hard to say. That looks way way over cooked though which won’t have helped.

BumandChips · 26/05/2019 10:22

I’d want a plate for a start.

WhiteRedRose · 26/05/2019 10:38

That looks poached 🤢

Nikhedonia · 26/05/2019 10:42

Yuk! It really doesn't look like a rump steak.

Cheeserton · 26/05/2019 10:43

For an extra ten quid, I'd definitely want a steak more than half a centimetre thick. And no, doesn't look like rump either, but I'm less bothered by that than how crap it is generally. Complain away!

costacoffeecup · 26/05/2019 10:44

It's massively over cooked and I'd expect it to be thicker if it was advertised as rump steak.

Fantasisa · 26/05/2019 10:45

It is incredibly unhygienic to serve meat on wooden boards.

BettyPitts · 26/05/2019 10:46

That's not rump.

When you tweet them, say when you saw it, not seen it. I'm sorry to sound like a twat but it'll make you sound better. Again, I'm not trying to offend you.

PinkHeartLovesCake · 26/05/2019 10:52

I think it’s a bit thin for rump, and that meal doesn’t look at all appetising tbh

Also why do they insist on putting steak with all its juice on a wooden board, what’s wrong with a plate??

LoafofSellotape · 26/05/2019 10:56

If that was £10 extra how much did you pay in total?

It's over cooked too.

LoafofSellotape · 26/05/2019 10:57

Definitely doesn't look like any rump I've ever had!

ChippyMinton · 26/05/2019 11:12

Why didn’t you complain and refuse to pay at the time?

stucknoue · 26/05/2019 11:15

Rump is the part of the animal so can be thick or thin, don't think that's worth a supplement though

churchthecat · 26/05/2019 11:16

I'd send it back and ask for a plate for a start, not a wanky block of wood.

LadyRannaldini · 26/05/2019 11:18

Looks horrible, over-cooked and probably not rump.

SinkGirl · 26/05/2019 12:16

Basic rule of thumb: if steak is grey, don’t eat it
🤢

Ugh. Generally I’m pro-steak at every opportunity but how long did they cook that microscopically-thin steak? Even if you asked for it well done, all one tone and grey is not what you should be going for. I don’t think that steak ever saw a hot pan. Shameful. I wouldn’t feed it to my cats.

(Sorry, I get very cross about poorly cooked steak!)

SinkGirl · 26/05/2019 12:18

Also: drowning a steak in beige sauce is basically the equivalent of cake decorators sticking flowers everywhere. They’re just hoping if you can’t see it, you won’t notice it’s awful. As if.
