Annoyed boyfriend given me the flu

CartWHEEL2008 · 25/05/2019 13:08

Boyfriend has been ill twice in 3 months. I managed to avoid catching it the first time round.
He coughs, splutters, doesn’t put his hand over his mouth, tissue everywhere etc and tries to deep throat kiss me when he has the lurgy!!!
Now he’s better, I’m bloody bed ridden. This is my second day in bed and I’m not impressed!!

YABU even being in the same room as someone who is ill could mean you catch it even without kissing them. I can't bear this attitude. Don't see him at all if you're going to get annoyed about it.

PurpleDaisies · 25/05/2019 13:11
Confused

Flu is highly contagious. You would probably have caught it by spending time together.

Houseonahill · 25/05/2019 13:16

I don't think he maliciously gave you flu.

CartWHEEL2008 · 25/05/2019 13:23

No I agree. But when I keep telling him to wash his hands, cover his mouth etc he didn’t care to take my advice

I agree with you. When you're ill with a streaming cold/flu, washing your hands, not sneezing and spluttering all over the place, putting your tissues in the bin, and kissing your partner on the cheek instead of wetly french kissing them is basic common courtesy to a) give them the best chance of not suffering the way you are, and b) not be generally revolting.

Flu is contagious and with the best will in the world you might still give it to someone, but it's not inevitable with a bit of basic hygiene. There's no excuse not to keep your snot to yourself.

MashedSpud · 25/05/2019 13:46

The flu jab is a few quid at Boots.

OwlBeThere · 25/05/2019 13:49

Don’t be ridiculous.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 25/05/2019 13:49

"deep throat kiss me"

Is it just me that did a double take at that line?!Grin

Sorry you're poorly OP. If he can't deep throat kiss you for as long as you're ill, maybe he will improve his hygiene? Wink

Looneytune253 · 25/05/2019 13:50

Do you mean a cold? Flu is horrendous. If you're genuinely that bothered tho get the flu jab and don't kiss him when he's poorly.

Dotty1970 · 25/05/2019 13:53

I doubt you have the 'flu' pissing on here, your being dramatic and why would you let him 'deep throat?' youConfused

WombatStewForTea · 25/05/2019 13:53

You haven't got flu op.
If you did you wouldn't be on here moaning about it.
You have a cold. Hth.

LittleLongDog · 25/05/2019 13:55

I agree that it’s really annoying when you catch a bug off of someone who has poor hygiene - the chances of getting it could definitely have been reduced!

But it’s not the flu OP. On day 2 of the flu I doubt you’d be able to go on your phone/computer to write this.

CartWHEEL2008 · 25/05/2019 13:59

Thanks guys. Sorry it’s day 3. Body aches, sweats feeling dizzy. I don’t think I’ve had a cold this bad before so thought it was the flu. I’ve been able to carry on with a cold but this has wiped me out. Of course I can still type on the old phone. My brain still works somewhat

lilabet2 · 25/05/2019 14:19

I think you're being reasonable- he should use tissues and chuck them, wash his hands etc. when he's ill so that you have a chance of avoiding it.

It could definitely be flu; there are lots of different strains- some milder than others and body aches and dizziness with a fever are sort of hallmarks of flu.

BringItIn · 25/05/2019 14:26

It's grim to leave tissues around and try to kiss you when he's properly ill. I agree you might get it from just sharing a room, but far less likely than if someone is leaving their bodily fluids around or trying to put them in your mouth.

Ohyesiam · 25/05/2019 14:31

In my nurse training g we were handed a medical book from just before ww1. In it the diagnostic criteria for differentiating between flu and a bad cold was with flu, the patient is unable to walk, and has to crawl to the toilet.
Not saying that to be pokey, just thought it’s an interesting insight.

Ilove31415926535 · 25/05/2019 14:33

Yeah I spent the last few days shivering under a blanket, courtesy of one of my DCs, but even they, a disgusting teenager, use tissues/wash hands/don't cough on others. So no, YANBU to expect general hygiene. A wee bit U to be mad you've caught a contagious virus Wink

CartWHEEL2008 · 25/05/2019 14:38

Thanks for the responses. It’s 20 degrees outside and I’m in bed with a hot water bottle Hmm
Feeling very sorry for myself

Could be worse. It could be syphilis.

Dana28 · 25/05/2019 15:06

He probably had infected you before he even knew he had it.

Treesthemovie · 25/05/2019 15:08

Yabu

NeverSayFreelance · 25/05/2019 15:12

I don't know why people are so convinced that having the flu (or any bug) makes you unable to use a phone. Hmm

HJWT · 25/05/2019 15:26

I doubt you have flu if your on MN 😜 I recommend the Flu jab next winter! My DH had the flu passed out and smashed his head of the toilet 😬 me and DD did not get it as we had the vaccine thank god xx

Vulpine · 25/05/2019 15:29

You need to get your immune system stronger so you don't catch it in the first place

Hiphopopotamous · 25/05/2019 15:30

Last time my DH had the "man flu" I shut him in the bedroom for the best part of a week. Brought up drinks and food, left him with nappy sacks for all his tissues. When he was better he deep cleaned the room and bathroom. Me and the DC didn't catch anything (and I slept much better alone in the spare room!) - I will quarantine him again next time we need!
